  • Patent number: 5950389
Abstract: A pair of splines each in the form of a thin metal strip are inserted into respective grooves or slots adjacent the opposed facings of a pair of structural panels. Each panel further includes an insulating foam core disposed between and attached to the opposed pair of facings. An adhesive applied to the metal splines bonds the splines to each panel and securely connects the two panels along respective abutting edges. In one embodiment, each metal strip is provided with opposed turned-in edges which function as hooks for engaging each panel's foam core and preventing separation of the two panels, particularly during curing of the adhesive. In another embodiment, each spline further includes a foam insulating strip about which the spline's metal strip is substantially wrapped for providing a thermal barrier at the panel juncture.

Disposed within the housing is a light source assembly including a light source in the form of a cylindrical shaped mercury lamp and an optical aperture closely spaced to the mercury lamp. The mercury lamp directs light through the optical aperture as well as through the cover lens onto the inner surface of the CRT's glass faceplate in a photo-stenciling process for registering, or aligning, phosphor dots on the faceplate's inner surface with electron beam passing apertures in the CRT's color selection electrode, or shadow mask. The optical aperture is elongated, with its longitudinal axis aligned generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the mercury lamp, and is curvilinear having from two (2) to eight (8) inflection points along its length.

  • Patent number: 5939025
Abstract: A partial oxidation reformer comprising a longitudinally extending chamber having a methanol, water and an air inlet and an outlet. An igniter mechanism is near the inlets for igniting a mixture of methanol and air, while a partial oxidation catalyst in the chamber is spaced from the inlets and converts methanol and oxygen to carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Controlling the oxygen to methanol mole ratio provides continuous slightly exothermic partial oxidation reactions of methanol and air producing hydrogen gas. The liquid is preferably injected in droplets having diameters less than 100 micrometers. The reformer is useful in a propulsion system for a vehicle which supplies a hydrogen-containing gas to the negative electrode of a fuel cell.

  • Patent number: 5930899
Abstract: A pneumatic scraping tool includes a pneumatic hammer assembly including a cylinder in which a piston reciprocates for repeated impact against an anvil or blade holder which is rotatably received within an end of the cylinder and carries a scraping blade. The anvil has an annular flange which stops its insertion in the cylinder, and is retained in place by a nut threadedly engaged with the cylinder and having an end wall spaced from the cylinder end a distance slightly greater than the flange thickness to permit reciprocation of the anvil. Exhaust air passes along a groove in the outer surface of the cylinder to an annular chamber in the nut and thence through four exhaust ports exiting at the end wall of the nut. A plug portion of the anvil projects through a central opening in the nut end wall and is received into a socket in a blade housing. Blade fingers project laterally into the socket.
