  • Patent number: 7769901
Abstract: An Internet Protocol (IP) headers decompressor node, a method and an IP headers manager in an IP network for fast IP headers compression initialization is thereby provided. The invention teaches how to exchange IP packets between at least two nodes of the IP network for establishment of a session therebetween, to initialize, at a first one of the at least two nodes, a static portion of a decompression context prior to completion of the establishment of the session and to uncompress application related IP packets exchanged with a second of the at least two nodes. In an optional embodiment of the present invention, it is further taught how exchanging IP packets between at least two nodes of the IP network may further comprise extracting information from the IP packets at a first one of the at least two nodes of the IP network.

  • Patent number: 6574198
Abstract: Systems and methods related to maintaining a signaling link between network terminals in a communications network. Periodic receiver ready frames are transmitted from a first terminal to a second terminal when there are no data frames to be transmitted. A temporal period is determined during which a predetermined condition will affect communications with the second terminal; the predetermined condition can be, for example, a period during which the sun will be within a predetermined subtended angle of an antenna associated with the second terminal. The second terminal transmits a pause frame to the first terminal prior to the temporal period; the pause frame includes the identification of the temporal period.

  • Patent number: 6539219
Abstract: Systems and methods related to providing an Intelligent Network (in) service to transparently establish a mid-call conference using a Mobile Station (MS), without requiring an intermediate hold state of an existing call connection between the MS and a second telephony device; such systems and methods can be adapted to implementation in any wireless communications network, such as a Global Services for Mobile Communication (GSM) network. In an exemplary embodiment, a wireless communications network adapted to provide the IN service includes a Mobile-services Switching Center (MSC), and a Service Control Point (SCP), wherein the MSC is operative to send a request to the SCP to activate the IN service, and the SCP is operative to send a Prompt&Collect_User_Information command to the MSC.

  • Patent number: 6463287
Abstract: Apparatus, methods and systems related to, or employing, an event detector that causes a wireless telecommunications network to trigger a request to a wireless positioning system upon detecting a predefined event associated with a Mobile System (MS); the wireless positioning system is operable to determine and communicate the geographic location of the MS to the wireless telecommunications network in response to receiving the request. A system for monitoring and analyzing characteristics of a wireless telecommunications network can advantageously employ the event detector to log data associated with each occurrence of a predefined event.

  • Patent number: 6360088
Abstract: A system, method, and program for selecting an antenna from a plurality of antennas in a wireless communication system having a dynamic frequency range is disclosed. This disclosure describes how a singular quality indicator derived from a plurality of quality parameters improves diversity selections in uplink or downlink channels integrated in time or separated in frequency. The quality indicator is derived in part from a synchronization, a cyclical redundancy check, and a differential receive signal strength indicator process. The processes modify a quality indicator when a sync error, a cyclical redundancy check error, or one of a number of receive signal strength conditions is detected. When a predetermined quality threshold exceeds the quality indicator at any point in time antenna selection occurs.

  • Patent number: 6332076
Abstract: A method and system for determining sources of downlink interference in a telecommunications network having offending cells and disturbed disposed therein. Initially, mobile traffic events in offending cells within the telecommunications network are identified. Disturbance events in disturbed cells within the telecommunications network are also determined. The identified mobile traffic events are then correlated with the identified disturbance events in order to detect possible sources of disturbance within the telecommunications network. A disturbance distribution for each disturbed cell within the telecommunications network is thereafter computed, when all identified mobile traffic events are correlated with the all identified disturbance events, thereby enabling network engineers to optimize the telecommunications network by minimizing downlink interference.

  • Patent number: 6325352
Abstract: An improved mounting base 300 for telecommunications equipment racks, including i) first and second side members 310-A and 310-B having upper planar portions 315 including means 311 for coupling the mounting base to a bottom portion of an equipment rack; and ii) forward and rearward cross members 320-A and 320-B having lower planar portions 325 including means 326 for coupling the mounting base to a floor surface. The upper planar portion 315 of each side member is disposed above the lower planar portions 326 of each cross member. When coupled to a bottom portion of an equipment rack, the forward cross member 320-A is disposed proximate a front portion of the equipment rack and defines an access passage between the lower planar portion 325 of the forward cross member and the bottom portion of the equipment rack, such that the access passage allows frontal access to the means 326 for coupling of the rearward cross member to a floor surface.

  • Patent number: 6327267
Abstract: A datagram is received from a packet-switched network at a first network node; the first network node may be a node of the packet-switched network or a node of a signaling network associated with a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The datagram includes a destination address of a destination node of the signaling network; the destination address has an address format associated with the packet-switched network, such as that defined by the Internet Protocol. A message is constructed for transmission from the first network node to a node of the signaling network; the message includes an address field containing the destination address and a translation type field containing an indicator that the destination address has an address format associated with the packet-switched network.

  • Patent number: 6327484
Abstract: A wireless communications device, such as a “cellular” telephone, including telephony circuitry, laser pointer circuitry, and a battery, wherein the telephony circuitry and the laser pointer circuitry are couplable to the battery. The widespread and everyday use of cellular telephones means that it is unlikely that a person would forget their telephone. Therefore, by integrating a laser pointer in a cellular telephone, it is unlikely for such person to ever be without a laser pointer. Furthermore, if that person forgets or loses their telephone, it may be possible to locate by placing a call to it, thereby also locating the laser pointer. Because a cellular telephone can be easily shared with others, so can a laser pointer integrated therewith.
