Abstract: The drying method according to the invention provides first for the moistening of the material with juice pressed out from the material of an earlier run and the material is passed through a heat exchanger the heat of which is derived solely from the exhaust air of the main drying unit and subsequently pressing out the excessive moisture from the material before the main dryer.

Abstract: Process for operating a cell for the electrolysis of a molten charge, in particular aluminum oxide, with one or more anodes the working surfaces of which are of ceramic oxide material, and anode for carrying out the process. In the process a current density above a minimum value is maintained over the whole anode surface which comes into contact with the molten electrolyte. An anode for carrying out the process is provided at least in the region of the interface between electrolyte and surrounding atmosphere, the three phase zone, with a protective ring of electrically insulating material which is resistant to attack by the electrolyte. The anode may be fitted with a current distributor for attaining a better current distribution.
Abstract: A crucible, especially for containing melts, has a multichamber construction wherein there is an outer chamber for containing a heat distribution medium and an inner chamber which acts as a receptacle for the melt.
Abstract: A vessel which, when in use, is subject to thermal stress, and which includes a device for introduction of gas through the wall of the vessel, the device comprising a metal sleeve fastened to the outer face of the wall of the vessel in an adjustable and easily exchangeable manner by a combination of screws and spring washers, and a gas-permeable body of fire-resistant material which is mounted adjustably and exchangeably in the metal sleeve under spring pressure. Either a major portion of the gas-permeable body is formed as a frustum of a cone, which has a short cylindrical portion on its end of larger cross section, or the gas-permeable body consists of two cylindrical portions of different cross section. The spring pressure is exerted by at least one dished spring column consisting of a series of pairs of oppositely oriented dished spring washers.

Abstract: A fuse-element for use in an electric network, includes a metal strip including at least one portion having a reduced cross-section, a shunt element of conductive material shunting the portion, bonding means conductively bonding the shunt element to the metal strip and being capable of being released at a temperature higher than a predetermined temperature, the shunt element defining a chamber facing towards the metal strip and being sealed by the bonding means between the metal strip and the shunt element, and a material disposed in the chamber having a boiling temperature below the predetermined temperature and capable of producing an internal gas pressure within the chamber sufficient to break the bond when the material is heated to a temperature higher than the boiling temperature.
Abstract: A crucible, for use in heating and/or retaining melts at elevated temperatures, includes a hollow holding member composed of a heat resistant material, and a thin-walled insert composed of a substance chemically resistant to oxygen and oxidizing substances and being removably supported in the holding member.

Abstract: An air bearing for a spinning- or a twisting ring suitable for use in the textile industry has a stator which is mounted on a spring-loaded damping absorber system. The absorber has a linear spring-curve in response to small deflections which rises progressively as the stator is further deflected.
Abstract: A compactable furniture unit having two chairs and a shaped body, each chair having a seating surface, an upwardly extending backrest and two upwardly extending armrests; the shaped body being adapted to fit into the area defined by the seating surface, backrest and armrests of one of the chairs and to extend upwardly beyond the top of at least one of said armrests. The second chair of the unit is adapted to be inverted and to rest with its armrests on the armrests of said first chair, so that said second chair is maintained in this position atop said first chair by said shaped body thus forming a compact unit.
Abstract: A molten salt charge as used in the electrolysis of aluminum contains aluminum oxide in excess of the eutectic composition and is cooled at a surface colder than the melt in such a way that the aluminum oxide precipitates onto this surface in the form of corundum crystals. Such a layer of crystals provides chemical and electrical insulation to the cooling surface under the corrosive conditions produced by the charge.
Abstract: The method consists in subjecting a mixture of an alkali nitride and/or an alkaline-earth nitride to thermal decomposition in vacuo in the presence of at least one metallic component with which it is desired to alloy the alkali metal and/or the alkaline-earth metal, the metals thus brought together are melted and the alloy thus obtained is homogenized.

Abstract: A crucible, for use in connection with oxidizing melts on the interior at elevated temperatures includes a crucible body composed of a material selected from the group consisting of platinum metals and tungsten, and a continuous coating of a metal disposed on the inner surface of the body, the coating metal being substantially non-alloying with the material and having a low affinity for oxygen.
Abstract: A smooth junction is provided between aluminum conductor rails at the power collection surface by the provision of a wedge shaped insert the geometry of which corresponds to that of the gap between the rails. On expansion of the rails the insert is pushed partly out of the gap and on contraction is forced into the gap by a spring or springs thus always providing continuity on the power transfer surface.
Abstract: An optical warning device has a sign that is mounted on the inner surface of the lid of a vehicle compartment, and a light source that illuminates the sign.
Abstract: A process for producing a compacted calcium fluoride based synthetic flux from an aqueous effluent containing fluorine ions, by precipitating fluorine ions as calcium fluoride, reducing the water content of the precipitate to the range from about 10 percent to 30 percent by weight, mixing the precipitate with a binding agent, compacting the mixture and thereafter drying the compacted mixture.
Abstract: A machine for the continuous comminution and mixing of materials, especially animal and vegetable media, has a mixing chamber in which two conveying passages are arranged. Each passage has a conveyor and mixer element working oppositely to one another, with each conveying passage there is associated a comminuting device which at the same time acts as a conveying means to deliver materials in the same direction as the associated conveying and mixing elements into the relevant conveying passage or respectively draw therefrom. Reversing spaces or passages serve together with these passages for the circulation of the mixed material.
Abstract: A tipping tube is pivotally mounted to the fishing rod at an end region, a slide-weight mounted onto the tipping tube, a signalling means placed at the other end region of the tipping tube and laterally extending out from the tipping tube, and a supporting means releasably engaging the moving end of the tipping tube to keep it with a predetermined force in a rest position in which the axis of the tipping tube is substantially parallel to the fishing rod.The fishing line is led through the tipping tube and in operation the inclination of the tipping tube is determined by the tension in the fishing line and the position of the slide-weight. The movement of the signalling means provides a perceptible display of the bite.
