  • Patent number: 4156573
Abstract: A cartridge for housing a supply of ribbon for typewriters or like machines. The cartridge includes an arm extending therefrom to guide the ribbon from the cartridge to the typewriter print point and to reverse the direction of the ribbon for guiding the ribbon back to the cartridge which is supported on a machine rigid frame on one side of the print point. The arm is provided in several embodiments of the invention, with a tab-like extension near its end to be engaged by the typewriter lift mechanism whereby it may be driven by the lift mechanism to carry the ribbon from a point adjacent the print point to the print point as a ribbon vibrator.

  • Patent number: 4149809
Abstract: A rotatable disc type printer for use in conjunction with a typewriter having a movable carrier. The type element or characters are carried on radially extending petals and are arranged at varying distances from the center of disc rotation so as to define a circumferential spiral path. The angular placement or position of each petal or spoke is determined by the following formula: angular placement of i.sup.th petal=360.degree./n .+-. tan .sup.-1 id/nL where n defines the total number of petals, d is the character spacing and L is the minimum distance from the center of disc to the print point. The length or distance from the center of disc rotation to the type character or element is defined by: L.sub.i (length for i.sup.th element=.sqroot.i L.sup.2 +(i/nd).sup.2 where i/nd ids the linear distance of travel of the disc center while rotating from a home position to the position for printing the character carried by the i.sup.th petal.

  • Patent number: 4140407
Abstract: A ribbon feed mechanism for a typewriter has a linkage for incrementally feeding a ribbon, a power roll rotated by a motor and a control member actuated by a printing mechanism for connecting the power roll to the linkage to incrementally feed the ribbon. The control member is also actuated by a carriage shift mechanism when shifting a carriage from an upper case position to a lower case position for connecting the power roll to the linkage to incrementally feed the ribbon.

  • Patent number: 4131374
Abstract: A ribbon feed mechanism for typewriters operable to incrementally feed a ribbon with a dual segment continuous motion ribbon feed. The ribbon is advanced an initial segment by a power actuated linkage and advanced a final segment by a spring urged arm acting on a multi-toothed cam. The initial segment feed occurs when a bellcrank is pivoted, and through a linkage, urges a ribbon metering shaft to rotate which, in turn, feeds the ribbon. Simultaneously, a spring biased cam follower is gradually displaced by the multi-toothed cam which is supported on the metering shaft. The final segment feed occurs as the spring biased cam follower is rapidly displaced down a cam surface of a tooth on the multi-toothed cam.

  • Patent number: 4063631
Abstract: An adjustable paper guide for a typewriter having a paper chute defined by a paper table and an erasure table spaced therefrom. The paper guide includes a sleeve member and a yieldable guide member. The sleeve member includes a guiding surface that extends upward from the top surface of the erasure table and the yieldable guide member includes a guiding surface that extends from the erasure table to engage the paper table. The guiding surfaces guide an edge of a sheet of paper during paper insertion and during paper realignment. The paper table includes a plurality of gripping rollers for feeding paper whereby releasing the contact of the gripping rollers on the paper also releases the paper table. The erasure table is pivotally supported for movement from a closed position to an open position. The yieldable guide member remains engaged with the paper table irrespective of the positions of the paper table and/or erasure table.

  • Patent number: 4029940
Abstract: An electric percolator having a liquid containing section formed from an assembly of glass and other materials fixed together by means of a locking collar. The lid of the percolator is held in place by means of a quick-release latching mechanism which prevents the lid from being disengaged by the lifting motion normally used to open a lid and instead requires a twisting motion which rapidly releases the lid. Simplified electrical circuitry in the percolator utilizes a single lamp that indicates both the "Brewing" and the "Keep Warm" modes of percolator operation.A method is also set forth for assembling a composite apparatus, having a glass component which does not require threading, strapping or gluing of the glass component.
