  • Patent number: 4369438
Abstract: A sump pump detection and alarm system, comprising electrical circuits and components to detect the existence of three different conditions, namely (1) a high water condition with electric power still available, (2) a high water condition when electrical power has failed, and (3) a failure of electrical power to the sump pump even though there is no high water level at the time, and to energize an alarm when detected to indicate which of the three conditions exists. The invention includes remote alarm stations, and in addition connections to the on-premises telephone line to produce a busy signal or other signal when such number is dialed in the event one of the three sump pump conditions exists, plus connections to a radio transmitter to transmit a radio signal when one of the said conditions exist.

  • Patent number: 4284451
Abstract: A method of tire repair in which flexible heating pads are applied to both the inside and outside of a patch area of a tire casing, and held in place under equalized pressure against the patch area by inflatable means. An inner tube is the inflatable means to hold a first flexible heating pad against the inner wall of the casing and patch area, and an inflatable air bag is the inflatable means to hold a second flexible heating pad against the outer wall of the casing and patch area. A belt or girdle of flexible sheet material surrounds the inflatable air bag and casing to force the air bag against the second flexible heating pad when it is inflated. The flexible heating pad for use on the inside of the casing includes a structure which enables the heating pad to conform to the interior surface of the casing and patch area and maintain contact therewith throughout the heating surface area of the heating pad when the inner tube is inflated.

  • Patent number: 4253463
Abstract: An intravascular device such as a catheter, having a flexible outer tubular portion or cannula and a relatively rigid inner tubular portion or stylet of metal such as stainless steel with a sharp pointed distal end protruding from the distal end of the cannula to pierce the skin and permit entry of the cannula into the vein of a patient. The opposite, or proximal, end of the cannula includes a tubular adapter or fitting to accept a corresponding tubular adapter at the proximal end of the stylet when fully inserted into the cannula. After inserting the device into a patient's vein, the stylet is withdrawn and a connecting member of a container is connected to the tubular adapter of the cannula, either for withdrawing samples of blood or for feeding an intravenous substance into the patient's vein.

  • Patent number: 4206774
Abstract: A dental flosser comprising an elongated handle having a storage chamber for a spool of dental floss and a forked head having two spaced apart arms secured to one end of the handle. A through passageway is provided from the storage chamber in the handle to the forked head to feed a strand of dental floss from the chamber onto and around the outer ends of the arms of the forked head. The connection of the head to the handle includes means to capture and hold the adjacent portion of the strand of dental floss securely when tightened. The outwardly extending length of dental floss is then drawn taut across the span between the outer ends of the spaced apart arms of the forked head, and the free end portion is secured by winding around a circular wedge member. A cutting assembly is provided adjacent the wedge member to enable cutting off the excess portion of the dental strand. The flosser is then ready for use.

  • Patent number: 4153009
Abstract: An electric shock protective device for animals to protect, for example, a bandage affixed to one of the animal's legs. The device is positioned on or around the bandage, and if the animal attempts to bite or chew on the bandage, or the sore or wound on its leg, its mouth and tongue will come into contact with the protective device causing it to produce a mild electric shock. The device includes a flexible mounting band dimensioned to surround the leg of an animal for which it is intended, a plurality of electrical conductors such as thin copper bus bars mounted thereon in substantially parallel relationship, an electrical power source such as one or more electrically connected batteries having a negative and a positive terminal, a first one of said electrical conductors connected to said negative terminal and a second one of said electrical conductors connected to said positive terminal.

  • Patent number: 4135624
Abstract: A plastic file sleeve and index card set for organized record retention and use, including a sleeve having two relatively wide end walls, two relatively narrow side walls, open at the top and bottom defining a sleeve cavity therein to receive index file cards as described. The index file cards include a body portion having a width corresponding to that of the sleeve cavity for insertion therein, and include a tabulating strip portion across the top of the card which is wider than the sleeve. The tabulating strip portion of the cards includes shoulder portions which project outwardly from each opposite end beyond the corresponding respective side edges of the body portion of the cards. The outwardly projecting shoulder portions of the cards rest against the top edge of the sleeve, thereby supporting the tabulating strip portion above the sleeve for visual examination without having to reach in the sleeve and withdraw cards for examination.

  • Patent number: 4091852
Abstract: An inflatable box of resilient sheet material such as rubber or vinyl, comprising a plurality of inflatable panels integrally joined along fold lines to provide a bottom wall, side walls and a top wall which may also function as an openable cover. The box may be made water-tight by providing non-inflatable folds or webs of waterproof material integrally joining each side panel to the side panels adjacent thereto along their respective adjoining edges. An air valve is provided in one of the inflatable panels to introduce air under pressure in that panel, and into the other inflatable panels through connecting passageways. The panels are inflated when they are lying flat. They are then folded along fold lines to form the box, and the panels are held in such position by side wall fasteners. A fastener may also be provided on the top cover panel to hold it in closed position.

  • Patent number: 4077687
Abstract: An electrical stab assembly for connection to vertical bus bars in an electric control center and which includes connector jaws floatably mounted in an insulated molded base. The floatable mounting permits the connector jaws to move with the bus bars to which they are connected, as the bus bars move due to thermal expansion, thus eliminating relative motion between the bus bars and the jaws connected thereto which is one of the basic causes of failure of stab type connector jaws.
