  • Patent number: 4081956
Abstract: A power plant arrangement having a gas turbine, a heat recovery steam generator, a steam turbine and means for controlling steam flow from the heat recovery steam generator to the steam turbine so that steam conditions are maintained generally constant and variations in power plant loading are carried by the steam turbine while operating the gas turbine at a generally constant fuel flow.

  • Patent number: 4058975
Abstract: An arrangement for determining the validity of temperature sensor readings of a gas turbine hot gas stream which includes means for comparing each reading to predetermined bounds. The temperature sensors are arranged so that a temperature streak caused by a combustion system malfunction would affect more than one sensor. In some cases, when a suspect reading is identified, the readings from adjacent sensors are examined before the suspect reading is rejected.

  • Patent number: 4046223
Abstract: A journal bearing for rotatably supporting a turbomachinery shaft is supported by a housing which defines a sump chamber around the bearing. Means are provided to deliver a flow of lubricating fluid to the journal bearing and to sequentially or serially spray or impinge the lubricating fluid, after use for lubricating purposes, against the inner wall surface of the housing to thereby provide cooling for the bearing sump without increasing the flow of lubricating fluid beyond that required for bearing lubrication.

  • Patent number: 4036164
Abstract: The invention relates to improved control systems for controllable pitch propellers of a twin screw vessel driven by a single prime mover operating at a predetermined rotational speed while the vessel is in the at sea mode, with provisions for maintaining the total load of said propellers upon the prime mover substantially constant under varying at sea conditions. A further element of the invention permits the transition of the control system to and from the maneuvering mode to the at sea mode under substantially smooth operating conditions of speed and power.

  • Patent number: 4011017
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a borescope probe in a gas turbine includes a housing, spaced swivel or washer bearings which receive the stem of the borescope probe, resilient washers disposed between the bearings that receive the borescope stem in close fitting relationship therewith, and a locking collar to selectively urge the bearings toward each other so as to deform the washers into gripping engagement with the borescope stem and frictionally lock the bearings.

  • Patent number: 3993912
Abstract: A marine propulsion system includes a gas turbine, a generator, a motor and a fixed pitch propeller. Means are provided to operate the motor synchronously in the normal ahead and astern directions and to operate the motor asynchronously in the slow ahead and astern directions with the gas turbine operating at its idle setting. Means are also provided to brake the propeller before astern torque is applied when the power propulsion lever is rapidly moved from the normal ahead setting to the normal astern setting by operating the motor as a generator.

  • Patent number: H1968
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for generating an MR image of a structural portion of a subject, the portion lying within a hypothetical imaging volume. A specified level of hyperpolarized magnetization is provided within the imaging volume, and a series of MR pulse sequences are applied to the imaging volume to generate respective corresponding MR data signals, each pulse sequence comprising a number of magnetic field gradient pulses and an excitation pulse, and having an associated flip angle determined by the excitation pulse. The associated flip angles of successive pulse sequences are progressively increased to maintain the signal strength of the corresponding MR data signals at a substantially constant level. Acquired MR data signals are cumulatively processed to provide an image of the structural portion.
