Abstract: A multi-layer coating system comprising a hydroxyl-functional polyurethane dispersion is provided. The hydroxyl-functional polyurethane comprises the reaction product of a pre-polymer intermediate formed from the reaction of an isocyanate with an active hydrogen containing compound, such as a polyester polyol, with a compound having at least two amine groups and one hydroxyl group, such as a diamino alcohol. In addition, a waterborne basecoat composition is provided having improved rheology and pattern control. Such a waterborne basecoat composition comprises a hydroxyl-functional polyurethane dispersion an acrylic emulsion resin, a water-reducible polyester resin, and a cellulose ester.

Abstract: A pigment dispersing polymer comprising a backbone having one or more urea groups and having polymeric side chains extending therefrom. The dispersing polymer may be formed from the reaction of a compound having one or more carbodiimide groups with acid functional resins such as acid functional polyesters, acid functional acrylics, acid functional polyethers, and fatty acids.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pigment and a coating composition comprising such a pigment, wherein it is contemplated that a coating composition containing such pigment is capable of inhibiting corrosion of a substrate to which it is applied. In one embodiment, the pigment comprises a filler having calcium borate, calcium molybdate, and calcium phosphate deposited on the surface of the filler. In an exemplary embodiment, the filler is calcium carbonate.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for mixing a fluid dispersion disposed in a container having either a cylindrical or a square shape. The apparatus includes a holding structure having a retaining structure connected to a base. The retaining structure prevents lateral movement of the container both when the container has a cylindrical shape and when the container has a generally square shape with a width substantially equal to the diameter of the cylindrical shape. The apparatus rotates the container about at least one axis.

Abstract: A coating composition having excellent cure at ambient conditions and comprising (i) at least one imine, (ii) a polyisocyanate having an average of at least two isocyanate groups per molecule, (iii) at least one polyaspartic ester, and (iv) an isocyanate functional urethane; wherein the coating composition is substantially free of hydroxy functionality. Coatings produced from the coating composition of this invention exhibit superior performance on flexible substrates.
