Abstract: Bromination of large batches of 2,6-dimethyl-2,5-heptadiene-4-one below -20.degree. C. followed by dehydrobromination without intermediate isolation and recrystallization to produce 3,5-dibromo-2,6-dimethyl-2,5-heptadiene-4-one which can be cyclized without isolation to high yields of 3-bromo-2-hydroxy-4,4,5,5-tetramethylcyclopenta-2-enone is disclosed.
Abstract: A process and apparatus for dyeing a web in a continuous manner so as to impart a dye density gradient to the web across its transverse dimension is disclosed.
Abstract: A process for an acid catalyzed esterification of a mercapto-carboxylic acid followed by an in situ S-alkylation of the mercapto-ester by slow addition of aqueous base to a mixture of said ester and an alkylating agent.
Abstract: Processes are disclosed for providing in situ generated cyanic acid and simultaneously preparing certain carboxamides which have a tertiary aliphatic substituted ammonium or pyridinium group substituted on the alpha carbon atom.
Abstract: 1,1,1-Trifluoroacetone is acetylated when an excess of an acetylating agent is allowed to react with this ketone in the presence of an excess of an amine such as pyridine.
Abstract: Polymeric derivatives of tetrazole-5-thiols are useful in conjunction with photosensitive silver halide elements as interlayers to provide interimage control, as dispersants for dye image-forming materials or as silver scavengers.

Abstract: The present invention is directed toward light-transmitting photochromic articles with low haze levels under illumination and processes for forming said articles without employing high temperature chemistry or heat treatments to initiate photochromism.

Abstract: Diffusion transfer photographic products are disclosed which comprise a support carrying at least a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer, a dye image-forming material and a layer comprising polymeric derivatives of tetrazole-5-thiols. Associated with this photographic product is a multivalent metal cation which diffuses to the layer comprising the polymeric derivatives of tetrazole-5-thiols to increase the permeability of said tetrazole-5-thiol containing layer to the dye image-forming material.
Abstract: A photosensitive silver halide emulsion preferably gelatin-free wherein the emulsion peptizer comprises an N-alkenyl carbamate polymer or copolymer.
Abstract: This application relates to procedures wherein a photographic image in silver prepared by diffusion transfer is treated in such a manner as to provide a printing plate or inking master useful in photomechanical reproduction or to provide a non-silver image of the original subject matter, e.g., a document or the like to be reproduced.
Abstract: A novel reflective light-polarizing lamination comprising a light polarizer laminated to the matte surface of aluminum foil and useful in display cells for field-effect transition liquid crystal displays.
Abstract: High molecular weight, sulfur containing compounds are prepared by polymerization of their monomeric precursors in an aqueous medium with a tetra-alkylated azo-bis-acetonitrile catalyst.
Abstract: An easel backed frame for photographs and the like comprising a front apertured frame and an easel back comprising four connected planar members.
Abstract: A continuous web of identical plastic parts is produced by molding a first unit comprising at least one of such parts in a mold, and connecting such molded part(s) to subsequent molded parts, by means of at least one runner upon which all the parts comprising the web are molded. The runner(s) connecting the parts may include indicia of data such as, indexing, information, part treatment information, assembly information, inventory information, etc.
Abstract: Apparatus for interfacing a battery powered photographic camera with a battery containing film cassette is disclosed. When the cassette is interfaced with the camera, electrical contacts in the camera engage the terminals of the cassette battery through access ports in the cassette housing. These access ports are provided with removable battery terminal masks to prevent accidental completion of an electrical circuit. The camera is equipped with enclosure means for receiving the cassette and with means associated therewith for removing the battery terminal masks so as to expose the terminals which can then engage the camera contacts for completion of an electrical circuit.
