  • Patent number: 6183859
Abstract: A low resistance magnetic tunnel junction with low resistance barrier layer and method of fabrication is disclosed. A first magnetic layer of material with a surface is provided and a continuous layer of material, e.g. aluminum, is formed on the surface of the first magnetic layer. The continuous layer of material is treated to produce a low resistance barrier layer of oxynitride material and a second magnetic layer is formed on the barrier layer of oxynitride material to complete the low resistance magnetic tunnel junction.

  • Patent number: 6061380
Abstract: VCSEL for high speed operation and method of fabrication including a substrate element, a first stack of distributed Bragg reflectors disposed on a surface of the substrate element, an active region lattice matched to a surface of the first stack of distributed Bragg reflectors, and a second stack of distributed Bragg reflectors lattice matched to a surface of the active region. The active region includes a plurality of quantum well layers, or structures, and a plurality of doped barrier layers. The doping of the barrier layers allows for a faster recombination time of the carriers prior to any occurrence of lateral carrier diffusion. This faster recombination time of the carriers prevents turn-off tails when the VCSEL device is switched off.

  • Patent number: 5717287
Abstract: A method for affixing a plurality of spacers (150, 250) within a field emission display (100, 200) is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: (i) forming a metallic bonding pad (160, 260) on the inner surface of the anode (110) or cathode (230) (ii) placing an edge of the spacers (150, 250) in intimate physical contact with a portion of the metallic bonding pad (160, 260) thereby providing contacting surfaces (iii) applying a potential difference of about 1000 Volts across the contacting surfaces so that the metallic bonding pad (160, 260) is biased positively with respect to the spacers (150, 250), and (iv) simultaneously heating the region about, and including, the bonding surfaces to a temperature of about 400 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes so that an anodic bond is formed between the contacting surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4440086
Abstract: A slideably mounted interrupter, or barrier, is constructed to interrupt or break a detonating train when held in a first position by a leaf spring in an unflexed mode, and to complete the detonating train when the interrupter is moved, by a predetermined amplitude of impact force, to a second position wherein the leaf spring is flexed and firmly wedged into a channel to prevent the interrupter from bouncing or otherwise moving out of the second position.

  • Patent number: 4353119
Abstract: A directional main antenna and N omnidirectional auxiliary antennas connected to each supply an m-sample batch of signals to apparatus for developing a weighting vector 2 through Batch Covariance Relaxation apparatus, which weighting vector is then used to weight the signals from the auxiliary antennas and the weighted outputs are summed with the signal from the main antenna to suppress undesired sidelobe interferences. The processor includes apparatus performing complex vector dot product multiplication, dividing apparatus, apparatus for adding or subtracting to provide the recursive updating of vectors and memories for storing the various signals between operations.

  • Patent number: 4255938
Abstract: A converging/diverging venturi assembly positioned in a subsonic fluid flow stream for producing a supersonic flow velocity in the downstream diverging section with a pressure pickoff system that is located adjacent a minimum static pressure location just prior to a point where shock waves begin to form. The low pressure in the supersonic region in front of the shock wave may be utilized for reducing the boiling temperature of a fluid in a boiler by porting a tube from the low pressure venturi to the boiler, thus improving the heat transfer characteristics of the boiler where the boiler is used for a heat sink for heat sources in a mobile vehicle.
