  • Patent number: 4054978
Abstract: A valve bonnet structure has an inner ring spaced slightly from the inner surface of the bonnet structure and secured along its lower edge portion to the bonnet. An angle-shaped member having a downturned leg lapping the ring is secured to the inner surface of the bonnet structure above the ring. For repair of the valve, an upper valve bonnet portion having the angle-shaped member thereon is removed by a cutting tool with the ring remaining in place on the lower valve bonnet portion. After repair of the valve, the upper and lower valve bonnet portions are welded together adjacent the ring with the downturned leg thereon fitting over the ring, and a seal between the leg and ring prevents fluid within the valve structure from being exposed to the welding operation.

  • Patent number: 4041970
Abstract: A fluid exhaust valve for connection between a fluid actuator and a fluid supply for the quick bleeding of fluid from the fluid actuator. The exhaust valve has a piston valve member mounted for movement in a valve chamber between open and closed positions relative to an exhaust port in fluid communication with the valve chamber. An internal passageway through the piston valve member has a separate check ball valve therein to permit the flow of fluid from the fluid supply to the fluid actuator when the ball valve is open and to prevent a reverse flow from the actuator to the inlet passage when the ball valve is closed while permitting the piston valve member to be fully exposed to the fluid pressure of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4040523
Abstract: An end-of-car hydraulic pneumatic cushioning device for connecting to the coupler of a railway car having a piston mounted within a cylinder and a piston rod secured to the piston extending rearwardly from the cylinder. The piston divides the cylinder into a front high pressure chamber and a rear low pressure chamber, and a gaseous and liquid fluid mixture is provided in both the high and low pressure chambers. The piston carries normally closed metering valves which open in buff travel a buff flow passage between the low and high pressure chambers after around two inches or more of buff travel from neutral extended position, and open upon return draft travel after buff travel a restricted draft flow passage between the low and high pressure chambers. The gas in the fluid mixture particularly upon high velocity impact loads is dispersed throughout the liquid and thus has a large contact area with the liquid to minimize the increase in temperature of the gas upon being compressed.

  • Patent number: 4034959
Abstract: A valve comprised of a valve body having a body with flow passages therethrough and a valve member mounted therein movable between open and closed positions. An annular groove in the body around a flow passageway has an open end, a closed end, and a pair of divergent side walls with the groove width at the closed end portion being greater than the width of the open end. An annular seal is positioned in the groove. A chemical fastener in the groove secures the seal ring in the groove. A method of making the valve seal structure includes forming the groove with divergent side walls in a seal ring supporting position of a valve body and then partially filling the groove with a chemical fastener material. The seal ring is inserted into the groove within the chemical fastener material and the chemical material is cured to secure the seal ring in the groove.

  • Patent number: 4026001
Abstract: A tool for extracting press-fitted seats from annular seat recesses of a gate valve body by insertion within the flow passage from the valve chamber. The tool is generally cylindrical in shape and has a pair of spaced end caps secured to each other with a pair of spaced elastomeric annular seals between the end caps and seal retainers on each side of the elastomeric seals. Pressurized hydraulic fluid is inserted in the tool to urge the elastomeric seals outwardly; one seal being in fluid sealing contact with the seat to be removed and the other seal being in fluid sealing contact with the adjacent flow passage surface. An increase in the fluid pressure of the hydraulic fluid effects a flow of fluid in the recess behind the seat to move the seat out of its recess.

  • Patent number: 4010770
Abstract: A velocity flow control valve employed in a branch line between a main flow line and pressure responsive pilot valves in a safety system for closing a valve across the main flow line. The flow control valve has interfitting male and female body portions with the male body portion having a spring loaded ball urged upstream to an unseated position and is seated upon a pressure differential to block flow to the pilot valves from the main flow line upon a downstream drop in pressure. A ball bleed valve is positioned on the female body portion upstream of the spring loaded ball and may be opened to reduce fluid pressure between the spring loaded ball and the main flow line when desired.

  • Patent number: 4000952
Abstract: A full penetration weld joint for connecting adjacent end portions of two members wherein one end portion has an inner lip extending therefrom and the other end portion fits over and laps the lip. Opposed end surfaces of the members are inclined outwardly in divergent relation from the lip and the end surfaces are spaced slightly forming a gap therebetween. In the end portion having the lip a generally U-shaped groove extends inwardly within the lip and substantially beneath the adjacent inclined end surface. The U-shaped groove is angularly oriented relative to the longitudinal axis of the lip and is positioned adjacent the gap which is formed between closely spaced flat portions on the end surfaces.

  • Patent number: 3994517
Abstract: A pipe anchoring device including an annular segmented support mounted in the bowl of a wellhead assembly. Each of the segments has a generally cylindrically shaped front face with a plurality of upwardly extending teeth thereon to engage a pipe, and a frustoconically shaped back face with a smooth surface load bearing lower portion and a plurality of sharp downwardly extending teeth adjacent the load bearing smooth lower portion with the teeth extending to the conical plane defined by the surface forming the lower portion. The outer smooth surface portion of the back face is in slidable load bearing contact with the adjacent support structure under initial loading as teeth on the front face engage the pipe, and under higher loading conditions the teeth on the back face bite into the adjacent support structure. One embodiment of the segments has a load bearing smooth upper portion on its back face adjacent the teeth and in slidable contact with the support structure.

  • Patent number: 3987817
Abstract: A test valve is positioned to block off a primary fluid pressure source acting on a pilot valve means and to provide communication with an alternate test fluid pressure source for testing the pilot valve means. The test valve has a central bore in which a depressible plunger is positioned for longitudinal movement between a seated extended position blocking the primary fluid pressure source and simultaneously commmunicating test fluid to pilot valve means, and an unseated retracted position in which the alternate fluid pressure source is sealed and blocked by an annular sealing member. The plunger has the annular sealing member adjacent its inner end in sealing contact with the adjacent surface forming the bore and positioned inwardly of a discharge passage in the plunger for the alternate fluid source. A hollow detachable stinger member which seats the plunger provides the test fluid and has a manual control thereon which selectively supplies the test fluid to the test valve.

  • Patent number: 3960168
Abstract: A locking device for a valve having a rotatable stem extending from a body and a handle secured to the stem for the purpose of preventing rotation of the handle and movement of the valve member. A fixed locking member is mountable on the valve body. A movable locking member is mounted on the handle for rotation therewith and for relative movement outwardly and inwardly of the valve body and fixed locking member. Interfitting cooperating members on the fixed locking member and the movable locking member are engaged at a desired position of the valve member upon inward movement of the movable locking member relative to the fixed locking member to prevent rotation of the handle and are disengaged to permit rotation of the handle upon outward movement of the movable locking member relative to the fixed locking member.
