  • Patent number: 7840474
Abstract: A method and system for electronically trading financial instruments is disclosed. In one embodiment of the disclosed invention, traders generate requests for proposals (“RFPs”) on financial instruments. The RFPs are broadcast to traders whose tradeable structures include the RFP structure. During a response phase, traders may respond to the RFP. These responses are preferably broadcast to all traders who have responded, as well as the requestor. Preferably, only the requestor may trade on the responses during the response phase. Once the response phase expires, the system preferably enters an action phase during which all responders to the RFP and the requestor may trade on the responses. Once the action phase expires, the responses are migrated to the general market.

  • Patent number: 7681761
Abstract: Soft serve frozen food such as ice cream and frozen yogurt is pumped from a sanitary reservoir into a closed loop flow path that includes an emulsion barrel assembly that intimately mixes the ingredients in the food composition into a smooth consistency frozen food product. A dispensing head allows servings of soft serve food to be withdrawn from the closed loop. A clean-in-place system permits all critical parts of the machine that come in contact with food to be cleaned and sanitized without having to take the machine apart.

  • Patent number: 7523078
Abstract: Bayesian super-resolution techniques fuse multiple low resolution images (possibly from multiple bands) to infer a higher resolution image. The super-resolution and fusion concepts are portable to a wide variety of sensors and environmental models. The procedure is model-based inference of super-resolved information. In this approach, both the point spread function of the sub-sampling process and the multi-frame registration parameters are optimized simultaneously in order to infer an optimal estimate of the super-resolved imagery. The procedure involves a significant number of improvements, among them, more accurate likelihood estimates and a more accurate, efficient, and stable optimization procedure.

  • Patent number: 7446627
Abstract: High frequency power amplification modules comprise a dielectric substrate supporting a stepped impedance transition coupled to the input of a power amplifier and a symmetrically disposed stepped impedance transition connected to the output of the power amplifier. The power amplification modules are oriented in an electromagnetic energy field so that input electromagnetic energy is coupled to the input of the power amplifier by the input side stepped impedance transition, amplified by the amplifier, and emitted from the module by the output side stepped impedance transition. A plurality of the power amplification modules may be organized into an array to provide a power combiner. The power amplification modules in the array may be linked by isolation impedances that decouple the modules in the array.

  • Patent number: 7423490
Abstract: An n-stage RF choke comprises a series connection of two or more inductors connected in series between a source and a load. The inductor closest to the source has the largest inductance and the inductance closest to the load has the smallest inductance. The inductances of any inductors between the inductor closest to the supply and the inductor closest to the load decrease as a function of distance from the supply. The junctions between the inductors in the series connection are shunted to ground by capacitors connected in series with resistors that provide a matched termination for increasing bandwidth by lowering circuit Q factors and eliminating resonant frequencies. The capacitor closest to the supply has the largest capacitance and the capacitor closest to the load has the smallest capacitance. Any intermediate capacitors decrease in capacitance as a function of distance from the supply. Such an arrangement provides a high impedance that isolates the load from the supply at a wide range of frequencies.

  • Patent number: 5724590
Abstract: Application programs compiled for a first, "source", computer are translated, from their object form, for execution on a second, "target", computer. The translated application programs are linked or otherwise bound with a translation of the source computer system software. The translated system software operates on the image of the source computer address space in the target computer exactly as it did in the source computer. The semantics of the source computer system software are thus preserved identically. In addition, a virtual hardware environment is provided in the target computer to manage events and to deal with differences in the address space layouts between the source and target computers.

  • Patent number: 5646759
Abstract: An improved optical loop mirror is used in an optical demultiplexer to demultiplex time division multiplexed optical communications channels. High bit-rate optical pulses representing a plurality of time division multiplexed communications channels are input to a 3 dB coupler in an optical loop mirror. The coupler separates the high bit-rate optical pulses into two substantially equal high bit-rate pulse streams propagating in opposite directions around a loop of fiber in the mirror. Lower bit-rate optical switching pulses are injected into the loop so as to substantially coincide with selected pulses in the high bit-rate pulse stream corresponding to a communications channel to be demultiplexed from the plurality of multiplexed communications channels.

  • Patent number: 5563593
Abstract: A novel group of optimized variable word-length codes for intra coded pictures is disclosed. Hardware complexity and implementation cost is minimized by only optimizing the variable word-length codes for intra coded pictures for a small, but frequently occurring number of discrete cosine transform events. A table of variable word-length codes conforming to the Motion Pictures Expert Group Phase 1 ("MPEG-1") standard may be used for the remaining number of less frequently occurring events. In an illustrative example of the invention, the MPEG-1 variable word-length code table is also used to code non-intra pictures which advantageously allows for totally compatible operation with the MPEG-1 standard.

  • Patent number: 5542010
Abstract: A monolithically integrated wideband optical filter which is rapidly tunable to a large number of optical frequencies over a wide optical frequency range comprises two series connected optical filters of different resolutions formed in a semiconductive wafer. A control circuit applies electrical energy to predetermined controllably transmissive waveguides connecting components of the filters defined in the wafer. This tunes the overall filter to a desired one of a plurality of optical frequencies. Application of such electrical energy creates frequency selective pathways through the wafer able to pass one of up to hundreds of selected optical frequencies over the entire bandwidth of a semiconductive medium. This filter is economical to construct and is useful in high capacity, high speed optical communications networks.

  • Patent number: 5539809
Abstract: When one party places a long distance call to another party through a telephone network, there is a delay in completing the call after the calling party enters the telephone number of the called party. During this holding time, a message specific to the geographic location of the called party is synthesized in light of information gleaned from the dialed telephone number and delivered to the calling party. The message may include an identification of the location of the called party, the time of day and date where the called party is located, news, weather, or other location specific information. The message may also include advertising information.

  • Patent number: 5534826
Abstract: Oscillation is easily and reliably initiated in an oscillator by increasing the gain of the circuit at startup time. For example, the gain of an oscillator circuit may be increased at startup by reducing the value of a user controlled impedance until oscillation commences. Alternatively, or in combination, the input impedance of an amplifier used in the oscillator may be reduced at startup to facilitate the initiation of oscillation.

  • Patent number: 5524025
Abstract: Digital signals, such as digitized television signals, are subjected to a source coding step followed by a channel mapping step. The source coding step causes the television signal to be represented by two or more data streams while, in the channel mapping step, the mapping is such that the data elements of the various data streams have differing probabilities of being erroneously detected at the receiver. In preferred embodiments, a first one of the aforementioned data streams carries components of the overall television signal which are regarded as the most important--for example the audio, the framing information, and the vital portions of the video information, such as motion compensation information--and that data stream is mapped such that its data elements have the lowest probability of error.
