  • Patent number: 3982060
Abstract: This invention relates to a crimp-type connector for terminating triaxial cable. The connector includes a body of a conductive material which body has an extending thin-walled rear ferrule portion. A means, such as a conductive clamp, is provided for clamping the inner braid of the cable in the ferrule portion with a portion of the inner braid in contact with the walls of the ferrule portion. A crimp ferrule is fitted over the outer braid of the cable and a means, such as an insulating bushing, is provided to physically and electrically isolate the inner braid and body from the outer braid and crimp ferrule. The crimp ferrule and ferrule portion of the body are crimped in a single operation to captivate the outer braid and inner braid respectively.

  • Patent number: 3977747
Abstract: A zero insertion force connector for receiving a printed circuit board and electrically contacting circuits thereon utilizes a twopiece assembly, the pieces of which include surfaces which define a cavity which rotatably mounts a contact operating cam shaft. A plurality of contacts are mounted in one of the pieces and are normally biased toward a contacting position, and respective cams carried by the cam shaft move the contacts away from the contacting position to positions which are free of interference with a circuit board. Each of the contacts includes a portion for engaging the circuit board within a longitudinal slot formed in the other of the pieces, the longitudinal slot being open along one side and at each end to permit the circuit board to be plugged in through the open longitudinal side or to be slid in from each end without interference.

  • Patent number: 3970506
Abstract: The following specification describes apparatus for successively applying magnetic patches on a tape to successive passbooks. Each passbook is moved in sequence to engage a switch and is then stopped. The switch operates a solenoid, which engages a roller with the passbook and disengages the stop. Thereafter, a metered pulse is applied to the motor of a rotary drive to move the passbook and tape through the same distance and one patch is separated from the tape and applied to the passbook by the solenoid engaged roller. As the tape moves under control of the metered pulse, a succeeding patch on the tape is sensed by a photocell to maintain the motor and rotary drive operated. The drive continues to advance the tape and when the succeeding patch is no longer sensed by the photocell, it provides a signal to deenergize the motor and stop the tape. The succeeding patch is thus accurately positioned for application to the next passbook operating the switch.

  • Patent number: 3968555
Abstract: Apparatus for inserting a plurality of insulated conductors in respective insulation piercing portions of contacts of an electrical device employs an electrically operable programmer for selectively controlling movement of a carriage along the electrical device, for example an electrical connector, and for controlling the insertion of conductors on each side of the device. The carriage is mounted for movement along the connector and is selectively programmed to stop at rest insertion positions at which insertion tools are operated to insert and terminate the conductors. The conductors are moved in the general direction of the insulation piercing portions of the contacts, manually and under tension, and are received by guide means which accurately align and position the conductors adjacent the respective contact portions. Each insertion tool includes two blades which are movable together toward the electrical connector.

  • Patent number: 3967356
Abstract: Apparatus for inserting a plurality of insulated conductors in respective insulation-piercing contacts of an electrical connector employs a programmer for controlling the movement of a carriage along the electrical connector and for controlling the insertion of a predetermined number of conductors on each side of the connector. The carriage is mounted for movement along the connector and is programmed for rest insertion positions whereat insertion tools are operated to insert and terminate the conductors. The programming and indexing mechanism includes a ratchet operated by the insertion mechanism to cock, via a torsion spring, a programming drum or cylinder which limits movement of the carriage to define positions along the connector. At these positions, the insertion mechanism is operated to insert a plurality of conductors, for example five conductors, on each side of the electrical connector.

  • Patent number: 3965512
Abstract: A prolate spheroid shaped buoy is resiliently moored to an anchor by means of a cable wound on a reel in the anchor with the reel latched to power springs coaxially wound upon a shaft extending through the reel. The springs are pretensed on the shaft, prior to deployment, and the shaft is latched against rotation by a pair of spring biased pins engaging a plunger. The reel may thus rotate freely under control of a brake as the anchor falls from the buoy during deployment. The plunger is operated automatically when the anchor falls to the ocean bottom to release the pins in sequence with one pin engaging the cable reel before the other pin releases the shaft to ensure that the springs are latched to the buoy and cable to resiliently moor the same. A plate on the plunger arm closes the bottom wall of the anchor to prevent the ingress of contaminants.

  • Patent number: 3958850
Abstract: Apparatus for connecting multi-conductor cables is provided consisting of an assembly having at least three panels, one of which is a base plate and at least two of which have first connector elements mounted in them. The plates are joined to form an enclosure, preferably of a delta shape, for a first multi-conductor cable. Each of the first connector elements has a selected group of first cable conductors connected to it. There are a plurality of second connector elements which are adapted to mate with the first connector elements with each of the second connector elements being connected to a selected group of conductors of one or more second cables. Apparatus is provided which is operative when the connector elements are mated for preventing the elements from being spuriously separated, but for permitting the elements to be separated if desired.

  • Patent number: 3958221
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining the address mode of each instruction in a microprogrammed processor, and for utilizing the address mode determination to locate the effective operand of the instruction. A microprogram memory is included which contains microprogram micro-orders for controlling the obtaining of the effective operand for an instruction in each of the address modes. The address being accessed in the microprogram memory at any given time is stored in a microprogram register. There is a decoder which is operative in response to the address mode tag of an instruction for generating the address of the entry point in the microprogram memory for the microprogram micro-orders to be utilized to control the obtaining of the effective operand for the mode indicated by the tag. The address mode tag of each instruction is applied to the decoder and the microprogram entry point address read out from the decoder in response to the tag is stored in the microprogram register.

Abstract: This invention relates to an electrical socket and to a socket contact which is adapted for use therewith. The contact has two pairs of symmetrically positioned contacts, with the contacts of each pair being angled in an opposite direction. Thus, a male element may be inserted in the socket from either end without causing any change in the electrical characteristics of the socket. Further, the arrangement of the socket contacts permits the maintaining of good electrical contact with a male conductor element under adverse conditions of shock and vibration.
