  • Patent number: 5717685
Abstract: Apparatus for electrical line communication that includes a coupler at each of two or more locations along a pair of lines, the coupler having capacitive circuits serially connected with an air-core transformer. The capacitive circuit is designed to resonate with the air-core transformer at a preselected frequency. A transmitter, receiver and modem may also be provided at each location. The apparatus incorporates a novel phase linear coupler which eliminates noise and is matched resistively to the characteristic impedance of the line at a preselected frequency. This apparatus therefore linearizes communication on the line and allows high speed data and voice communication over long distances.

  • Patent number: 5704087
Abstract: A toothbrush is equipped with electronic means for measuring the time interval between a visit to the dentist and the time when the next visit is to take place. The toothbrush remains "dormant" during that time interval. At the end of the interval, electronic means are activated to provide a visual and/or audible alerting signal to the user of the toothbrush. The signal is delivered during actual use of the brush. Preferably, it is repeated, at relatively short intervals, during subsequent uses of the brush.

  • Patent number: 5660389
Abstract: A history-based trivia game wherein the answers to all questions are given in the form of a calendar year. Game components include a game board, throwing die, game pieces, playing cards and bonus markers. The object of the game is to be the first player to advance a game piece across a calendar year imprinted on the playing board by correctly answering questions found on the playing cards. A player may advance his or her playing piece one day of the calendar year for each point earned by correctly answering a question. Questions of greater difficulty are awarded a greater number of points. A weighted scoring system allows players to earn partial credit as calculated by the total number of points possible for a correct response minus a predesignated number of points depending on the degree of variation of the player's response from said correct answer.

  • Patent number: 5647453
Abstract: A multi-purpose ladder utility apron comprised of four side panels, each adapted with a plurality of tool and accessory receptacles and further comprised of a fold up storage tray on the ladder's top providing additional temporary storage space. Closure flaps and straps secure the apron to the ladder whether in its open or closed position such that the subject invention may be secured to the ladder during use, transport and storage and may be quickly removed for laundering. An optional lid is also pivotally attached to the apron and folds out to provide a work shelf. The apron's design accommodates use of the ladder's own fold-down shelf and permits use of all steps without sacrificing storage space for tools and the like. The apron may further be adapted with a power receptacle so that power tools can easily be interchanged without disengaging the extension cord.

  • Patent number: 5592482
Abstract: A cable television/video distribution and selection system for distributing video signals throughout a home or building over in-wall electrical wiring. A remote device is connected to a display monitor or television set and also to the electrical wiring through an electrical outlet. The remote device is comprised of a first video signal selector device which is used by a user to generate a selection signal which corresponds to the cable television channel which the user has selected. The remote device also includes a transmitter/receiver for sending the selection signal over the electrical wiring to a tuner and then receiving the video signal (television station) from the tuner. The transmitter/receiver matches the characteristic impedance of the electrical wiring and is tuned to a predetermined frequency band. The distribution device is connected to the electrical wiring and also to a video signal source, such as a cable television cable entering the building.

  • Patent number: 5529493
Abstract: A mixing and storage assembly for ceramic materials such as dental porcelain, comprising an open-cell foam pad disposed within a removable micro fine knit fabric sheath. The pad and surrounding sheath are together charged to a mixing and storage vessel which further contains a reservoir of water or other liquid suitable for the preparation of a workable ceramic mix. The assembly is capable of maintaining the proper moisture content of the mix during both use and storage without the frequent need for stirring or water replenishment and without the threat of supersaturation of the mix. Liquid flow from the reservoir to the substrate mix is regulated by the capillary action inherent in the pad which maintains a consistent liquid content for supply to the porcelain powder thereby retarding premature hardening due to moisture loss associated with evaporation.

  • Patent number: 5415501
Abstract: A chuck assembly and drill tool for a deep hole drilling press wherein the shank of the drill is of great length and slidably received within the chuck assembly to various depths such that complete removal of the drill for the purpose of substitution with drills of different lengths is avoided. The invention also teaches means for securing the drill within the chuck at various points along the shank's length. Prevention of lubricating and cooling oil leakage is accomplished by novel packing means which are also incorporated into the chuck assembly. In another embodiment, a separate insert may be fitted to the chuck assembly to permit reception of shanks of varying diameter. Both embodiments prevent excessive vibration, fallout and whiplashing of the enclosed drill tool.

  • Patent number: 5316532
Abstract: An aquatic exercise and rehabilitation apparatus comprised of a fluid filled anti-splash treatment vessel and adjustable exercise cycle component having a unique pedal and handlebar assembly adaptable for use by individuals with unilaterally or bilaterally diminished mobility or range of motion of the upper or lower extremities, as well as by amputees and other musculoskeletal and neurologically challenged individuals. The pedal assembly is comprised of a series of concentrically interconnected discs each adapted with a plurality of incrementally spaced receptors along their radii to removably receive therein means for securing the user's lower extremities. Depending on the receptors selected and their respective distance from the disc's center, each lower extremity will be permitted to independently achieve a minimal to maximal path of travel.
