Abstract: A hybrid access system and method using a hybrid access system point of presence router and a remote link adapter to connect a user computer terminal to a network for fast downstream information transfer by high speed information broadcasting with lower speed upstream information transfer through an independent upstream channel to the hybrid access system point of presence router. High speed downstream information transfer passes through a cable TV headend or a TV transmitter or a cell station.

Abstract: Provided is a wallboard repair clip which includes a patch wallboard receiving structure for contacting inner and outer surfaces of a patch wallboard, an existing wallboard receiving member and a securing structure.
Abstract: A method is provided to ensure that a combustion turbine power generation system may operate at maximum allowable power at elevated ambient temperature and/or at low air density.
Abstract: A hydraulic device includes a housing and a bulkhead disposed in the housing. A pump piston is provided in the housing and has first and second end surfaces with the second end surface of the pump piston and surfaces of the housing and of the bulkhead defining a pumping chamber. The pump piston is constructed and arranged to move within the housing to develop pressure on fluid in the pumping chamber. The first end surface of the pump piston and surfaces of the housing define a pump reservoir chamber. A ram piston is provided in the housing and has first and second end surfaces with the first end surface of the ram piston and surfaces of the housing and of the bulkhead defining a drive chamber. Connecting structure is associated with the bulkhead to communicate the pumping chamber with the drive chamber so that fluid pressure developed in the pumping chamber may be exerted on the first end surface of said ram piston. A barrier is provided in the housing between an end of the housing and the ram piston.

Abstract: An asymmetric network communication system for use in a client-server environment having independent forward and return channels operating at different speeds and/or under different protocols on the same or different communication media to provide efficient utilization of shared resources. A network manager, such as a hybrid access system, effects transmission of packetized data on a forward (downstream) channel from the host server to multiple client devices coupled with a shared downstream media at 10 or more megabits per second while simultaneously providing selectable multiple lower speeds of operation on shared or dedicated return (upstream) channels from the client devices to the host server depending on bandwidth availability, bandwidth demand, service level authorization, etc. for the return channel.

Abstract: Provided is a novel process for the preparation of an aqueous solution of alkaline compounds from a generator gas, containing carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and entrained alkaline compounds, which gas has been formed during partial combustion of cellulose spent liquors in a gas generator connected to a quench vessel.
Abstract: A radio frequency control technique for use in a wideband communications system, such as a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system in which the use of several wideband forward channels is allocated in each cell depending upon the apparent location of the mobile station in the cell. In particular, a first set of forward channel frequencies is reserved for the mobiles located within a first certain radius of the base station antenna, and a second set of channels serve the area forming mobiles located in a concentric annular ring centered around the base station antenna. Third, fourth, and subsequent concentric rings may be used to provide successively longer radii from the base station to support the use of additional frequency sets in each cell.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing pulp cooked under alkaline conditions, in which method cellulose-containing material is brought into contact, in a digester, with an alkaline cooking liquor containing dissolved potassium and sodium compounds, with used spent cooking liquor being separated off from the cellulose-containing material and withdrawn for the recovery of energy and chemicals, wherein:a) The molar ratio, calculated as K/K+Na, between potassium and sodium in a withdrawn spent cooking liquor exceeds 0.25.b) The withdrawn spent cooking liquor is concentrated with respect to its content of solid material and is subjected to partial oxidation in a reactor, resulting in the formation of a, combustible gas which is withdrawn from the reactor.c) oxygen-containing gas is supplied to the reactor in order to support the partial oxidation.d) The operating temperature in the reactor is adjusted to between 400.degree.-1200.degree. Abstract: An educational and stress-relieving screen saver for exhibiting artists and their artworks on a computer monitor. The screen saver includes a plurality of compressed artist introductory files and image files of the works of art of the artists. Files are segmented or identified according to artist groups wherein different groups may be selected or deselected for display, or added or deleted from the screen saver. During operation, routines are called for decompressing files and displaying artist's likeness and their works according to groups. A transition module is provided which includes a plurality of different effects which are called in a random or pseudo-random fashion to provide a variety of soothing and stress-relieving image transitions. Means are also provided for adjusting the time of display of image files and for providing on-demand display of detailed biographic information about each artist exhibited in the screen saver.
