  • Patent number: 5188653
Abstract: Each glass gob is severed by a shear blade pair (6; 9). The shear blades (7, 8; 10, 11) are arranged on shear arms (12, 13) whose movement is synchronized with each other by means of a gear mechanism (16) A first shear arm (12) is drivable pivotably by a drive means (36), while a second shear arm (13) is supported by an air spring (28). The drive means (36) is carried on a carriage (39) which is displaceable by piston-cylinder units (48, 49). The drive means (36) drives a crank pin (43) which is connected by means of a coupling rod (44) with the first shear arm (12). By displacement of the carriage (39) one achieves a servicing stroke (34) which is greater than the working stroke (32) of the shears.

  • Patent number: 5189690
Abstract: A device for assisting a fluoroscope operator in orienting a fluoroscope on an object during a fluoroscope examination, and thereby reduce the time of use and exposure to radiation, which device consists of a sheet transparent to x-ray radiation, preferably disc shaped, possessing orientation indication means, such as radiopaque symbols, numbers and letters which may be combined in any combination. The orientation device is mounted on the fluoroscope's receiver, thereby positioning the sheet and orientation indicators between the receiver tube and the object being examined. The orientation indicators are visible on the fluoroscope's monitor, clearly indicating direction and providing guidance for the fluoroscope operator during the examination.

  • Patent number: 5172716
Abstract: A recirculation valve for cooling a centrifugal pump. The invention comprises a valve casing having a first chamber for connection to a centrifugal pump and a second chamber for connection to a fluid outlet, a recirculation port for redirecting fluid from the first chamber to the centrifugal pump. Between the first and second chambers is a check valve means for permitting fluid flow from the first to the second chamber. Connected to the check valve means is a hollow cylindrical valve stem permitting flow from the first chamber to the second chamber. The check valve means is comprised of a circular disc which opens when the fluid pressure in the first chamber exceeds the fluid pressure in the second chamber and closes when the fluid pressure in the second chamber approaches that in the first and intermediate chambers. A two angle control surface between the check valve disc and the valve casing controls the position of the check valve relative to the flow of fluid past the valve.

  • Patent number: 5168823
Abstract: A transportable remote-controlled mooring apparatus and method for water craft is disclosed. The mooring of the present invention employs a relatively large hoop of flexible material through which a water craft activation line travels. The mooring attaches to an anchor or similar secure point off-shore and allows the water craft to be unloaded at shore and then pulled to and retrieved from a safe mooring off-shore. The mooring unit is of minimal size and weight, highly reliable, and not susceptible to fouling problems from waterborne debris.

  • Patent number: 5161653
Abstract: An electro-rheological controlled shock absorber for use on motor vehicles is disclosed. The shock absorber employs a fluid filled cylinder, a piston member traveling in the cylinder, and an electro-rheological valve controlling the passage of fluid through the cylinder. In one embodiment of the present invention, the electro-rheological valve is placed in a by-pass passage to control the flow of fluid therethrough. In another embodiment of the present invention, the electro-rheological valve is placed in the piston to control the flow of fluid. The present invention is well adapted for use with all forms of shock absorbers.

  • Patent number: 5158109
Abstract: A general electro-rheological valve is disclosed used in controlling the flow of fluids in a variety of applications. The valve comprises an inlet in communication with a fluid source, an outlet for transporting the fluid out of said valve, and an oscillating valve member for opening and closing off said inlet. The valve member has a cavity containing an electro-rheological fluid, a perforated electrode member emersed in the electro-rheological fluid within the cavity, and means for electrifying the perforated electrode member such that the electro-rheological fluid within the electrode solidifies, thereby locking the position of the valve member relative to the electrode. In this manner, the valve member, which oscillates with respect to the perforated electrode member, can be frozen in an open, closed, or intermediate position with respect to the inlet. The valve member thereby controls the level of fluid flow through the valve.

  • Patent number: 5148945
Abstract: The present invention provides improved method and apparatus for the transfer and delivery of very high purity chemicals for use in semiconductor production and similar processes. By employing multiple alternating pressure vessels, chemicals are drawn from virtually any bulk source and delivered to one or more end-users. The use of a vacuum system to draw chemicals through sealed conduits eliminates the need for pumps which are a source of both maintenance problems and contamination in the system. Multiple vessels provide for a variety of flow options, which include continuous chemical delivery to the end-users, recirculation and regular filtration during periods of low use, and built-in redundancy to avoid system shut down if there is a component failure.

  • Patent number: 5135473
Abstract: The present invention is an Achilles tendon brace which comprises: a wrap holding a multidimensional compressive pad; an anatomically proportioned strapping system; and hook and loop fasteners such as available under the trademark Velcro. The compressive pad contains a raised portion which lays above and perpendicular to the Achilles tendon, providing a compressive conuterforce, relieving strain and dispersing pressure normally transmitted through the tendon. The pad conforms to each individual's Achilles tendon with continued use, providing a customized unit providing multidimensional support and compression of the tendon. The strapping system employs straps which are proportioned to match the contours of the Achilles tendon area of the leg, permitting full range of motion of the ankle and foot. The strapping system permits the wrap to be placed snugly around the Achilles tendon, and, in conjunction with the hook and loop fasteners (e.g.
