Abstract: A fireman's coat of the type which has an outer shell and a detachable liner for the outer shell and side pockets formed in opposite sides of the outer shell also has visible indicator patches on each side in close proximity to the open end of each pocket. The indicator patches have a sufficient extent to be clearly visible from the front, back and sides of the outer coat when the coat is worn by a fireman in use. A narrow opening is formed in each side of the outer shell in close proximity to the open end of each pocket. A pocket flap is attached to each side of the liner so that it can extend through one of the narrow openings formed in the sides of the outer shell. Velcro fasteners are provided for securing each pocket flap in an outwardly overlying relationship with respect to the outer shell to close the open end of its associated pocket and to overlie and obscure the visible indicator patches associated therewith to clearly indicate that the liner is located in the outer shell in use.
Abstract: A wheel harness for anchoring a wheel of a motor vehicle with respect to the floor of a transportation vehicle comprises an elongated strap which has an anchor at each end and a wheel chock which is slidably mounted on the strap. The wheel chock can be releaseably secured to the floor in close proximity to a wheel in use to form a chock which will bear against the wheel to prevent movement of the wheel. A length adjustment device is provided for adjusting effective length of the strap to increase or decrease the effective length of the strap to tighten or release the harness with respect to the wheel in use.
Abstract: A siding panel formed from a body of hardboard material is formed with a locking tongue at or adjacent its upper edge and a locking seat at its lower edge. The locking tongue of one panel is arranged to be seated in the locking seat of another panel when adjacent panels are arranged with their marginal edge portions overlapping one another in use. The locking seat is in the form of a notch which is formed in the back face of the body of the panel. The notch extends upwardly from the lower edge and underlies the lower marginal edge portion of the panel.

Abstract: A system of three or more hydrophone arrays are utilized to measure underwater areal sound intensity. The hydrophone arrays bound at least one plane through which an areal sound intensity measurement is desired. Each hydrophone array comprises three orthogonal pairs of hydrophones with coincident acoustic centers. The output of each hydrophone in the system is simultaneously sampled and the outputs processed to obtain a vectorial sound intensity representation at each of the hydrophone arrays from which a representation of the areal sound intensity across the noted plane may be derived.
Abstract: A banding prosthesis comprising an expandable helical member encased within an elongatable outer covering. The ends of the outer covering are sealed and incorporate silk sutures for joining the two ends of the banding prosthesis to form a band about the circumference of a tubular organ such as a blood vessel so as to encircle and constrict the organ lumen. An intraluminal balloon dilator is inserted within the lumen of the organ in the region of the band and is inflated to dilate the banding prosthesis and allow the constricted lumen to expand. The design of the present invention allows for gradual dilation of the banding prosthesis in stages.
Abstract: A roll-up door for a contained body of a van or the like is provided with a winch which is located in a compartment formed in the header of the door. The winch is connected by flexible winding straps to the upper door panel and the lower door panel so that it is operable to drive the door between the open and closed position. The door panels are hingedly connected by hinges in which the hinge pin is located at the inner face of the door. Flexible sealing members are connected to each jamb and bear against a marginal edge portion of the outer face of the door when the door is in the closed position. A control system for controlling the direction of rotation of the reversible D.C. motor is provided which includes a master control circuit and a slave control circuit which is selectively operable.

Abstract: A system of drying veneer sheets for manufacturing wood products such as plywood, measures the moisture content of the sheets and controls drying to a predetermined moisture content. By drying veneer sheets to the predetermined moisture content, avoids excessive drying to ensure all sheets are below the 11% moisture content level. A process of drying comprises incising a veneer sheet, sensing the moisture content of the incised veneer sheet, steam drying the sheet under pressure and controlling the drying based on the sensed moisture content of the veneer sheet, to dry the sheet to the predetermined moisture content.

Abstract: A tow hitch system comprising a tow bar to be secured to a towing and to a towed vehicle. the towing vehicle includes spaced openings adjacent to the point where the tow bar is secured. There is an anchor point on the tow bar. A chain received at the anchor point. Safety catches at each end of the chain engage the spaced openings. Each safety catch comprises a central limb to be received in an opening. Side limbs extend from each end of the central limb to contact opposed sides of an area of the towing vehicle adjacent the point where the tow bar is secured to maintain the catch in position. The system is easy to make and very easy to use yet safe in use.
Abstract: A telerobotic system adapted for tracking and handling a moving object comprises a robot manipulator, a video monitor, an image processor, hand controls and a computer. The robot manipulator comprises a movable robotic arm having an effector for handling an object, a drive system for moving the arm in response to arm input signals, sensors for sensing the position of the arm and for generating arm output signals which characterize the dynamic motion behavior of the arm, and a vid=eo camera carried by the arm. The camera responds to motion of the moving object within the field of view of the camera. The video monitor receives an input video signal from the video camera, for displaying an image of the object to a human operator. The image processor is responsive to the output signal of the camera, and is capable of acquiring and pre-processing an image of the object on a frame by frame basis. The hand control is capable of generating a hand control output signal in response to input from a human operator.

Abstract: A machine for cutting logs to provide a dovetail log joint is provided with a number of saw legs which are slidably mounted on carriages, some of which are movable in order to adjust the angle of inclination of the saw blades. This machine permits dovetail tenons to be formed at either end of a log to provide both inside and outside corner joints. All of the necessary cuts can be effected while the log is held in a fixed position, it is only necessary to move the log longitudinally of itself in order to form the tenons at opposite ends. C-clamps are also provided for applying pressure to the log joint during assembly of the joint.
Abstract: A control system for controlling the direction of rotation of the reversible D.C. motor is provided which includes a master control circuit and a slave control circuit which is selectively operable. The control circuit permits the movement of the door to be arrested at any time and to be reversed at any time by operating the master control and allowing similar control by means of the slave control when it is activated.

Abstract: In a carton loading machine, there is provided a mechanism which will initially displace one row of cylindrical-shaped objects with respect to its adjacent row such that load items in one row are located in a staggered relationship with respect to the load items in the adjacent row. The load items are then displaced into the open end of a container. When the assembled load is substantially fully located within the container, the movement of one row is arrested while the movement of the other row continues until the items of the adjacent rows are arranged in a side-by-side relationship. This serves to permit the width of the accumulated load to be reduced until the load is substantially fully located in a carton and thereafter the load is rearranged to its maximum width to fit in a close fitting relationship within the carton.
