Abstract: A semiconductor memory, such as an SRAM, is described that accommodates smaller read/write accesses in one mode of operation and larger read/write accesses in a second mode of operation, wherein power is conserved during the smaller accesses. Methods of using such a semiconductor memory are also described.
Abstract: A system and method is described herein for managing power consumption by a plurality of sensors in a proximity-based ad hoc network. The system and method receives sensor data that is provided from a plurality of sensors and constructs a proximity-based ad hoc network among the plurality of sensors based on the sensor data. The system and method also receives and analyzes power status information from each sensor in a group of spatially and temporally proximate sensors in the proximity-based ad hoc network. Based on the analysis, the system and method then modifies a manner in which at least one sensor in the group provides sensor data.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for annealing semiconductor nanowires and for fabricating electrical devices are provided. Nanowires are deposited on a substrate. A plurality of electrodes is formed. The nanowires are in electrical contact with the plurality of electrodes. The nanowires are doped. A polarized laser beam is applied to the nanowires to anneal at least a portion of the nanowires. The nanowires may be aligned substantially parallel to an axis. The laser beam may be polarized in various ways to modify absorption of radiation of the applied laser beam by the nanowires. For example, the laser beam may be polarized in a direction substantially parallel to the axis or substantially perpendicular to the axis to enable different nanowire absorption profiles.

Abstract: A technique is described that reduces the complexity and resource consumption associated with performing record expiry in a distributed database system. In accordance with the technique, a record is checked to see if it has expired only when it has been accessed for a read or a write. If at the time of a read a record is determined to have expired, then it is not served. If at the time of a write a record is determined to have expired, then the write is treated as an insertion of a new record, and steps are taken to treat the insertion consistently with regard to the previous expired version. A background process is used to delete records that have not been written to or actively deleted by a client after expiration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for selecting alternate channels for broadcast radio channels, and for tracking alternate channel selections, are provided. Some radio systems provide alternate frequencies for tuned radio frequencies to use when the tuned radio frequency signal is no longer receivable. In aspects of the present invention, historical information is generated from alternate channel switching attempts. In further aspects, the generated historical information is used to aid in making a subsequent switch to an alternate channel.
Abstract: Community-based rating information is generated about a Web site, Web page or other network-accessible content for use in Web filtering operations. The rating information may relate to the appropriateness of the content for a particular audience or audiences, such as for children or for children of different age groups. The rating information is based on feedback provided by users who have accessed the content in question. Where the group of users providing feedback is sufficiently large, the rating assigned to the content will tend to accurately reflect community standards. Also, because the rating information is based on user feedback, the rating information can change over time to reflect changing community attitudes towards content.

Abstract: A differential amplifier with surge protection is described. The differential amplifier includes a first output driver device, a second output driver device, a first replica device, a second replica device, a current comparator, and a clamp circuit. The first replica device is configured to be a replica of the first output driver device. The second replica device is configured to be a replica of the second output driver device. The current comparator is configured to generate a threshold current, and to compare the threshold current to a first current through the first replica device and a second current through the second replica device. The clamp circuit is configured to limit a third current through the first output driver device and a fourth current through the second output driver device if the current comparator determines that the threshold current is greater than the first current or the second current.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for integrated circuit packages, such as ball grid array packages, and processes for assembling the same, are provided. A first strip includes an array of package substrate sections. An IC die is mounted to each package substrate section of the first strip. A second strip includes an array of leadframe sections. The second strip is positioned adjacent to the first strip to couple a planar protruding area of each leadframe section to a corresponding IC die mounted to the first strip. An encapsulating material is applied to the adjacently positioned first and second strips to fill a space between the first and second strips and to fill a cavity in a top surface of each leadframe section. A planar region of the first strip surrounding each centrally located cavity is not covered by the encapsulating material. The adjacently positioned first and second strips are singulated into a plurality of IC packages.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for integrated circuit packages and lead frames are provided. A quad flat no-lead (QFN) package includes a plurality of peripherally positioned pins, a die-attach paddle, an integrated circuit die, and an encapsulating material. The die-attach paddle is positioned within a periphery formed by the pins. The die is attached to the die-attach paddle. The encapsulating material encapsulates the die on the die-attach paddle, encapsulates bond wires connected between the die and the pins, and fills a space between the pins and the die-attach paddle. One or more of the pins are extended. An extended pin may be elongated, L shaped, T shaped, or “wishbone” shaped. The extended pin(s) enable wire bonding of additional ground, power, and I/O (input/output) pads of the die in a manner that does not significantly increase QFN package cost.
