  • Patent number: 6062565
Abstract: A method of bet placement and wager distribution for use with double-hand gambling games; each round frontline players place wagers on their front hand final ranking into a frontline front hand pot and wagers on their back hand final ranking into a frontline back hand pot, and backline players place wagers on either the final ranking of a frontline player's front hand into a backline front hand pot or the final ranking of a frontline player's back hand into a backline back hand pot. A full game round is played, and then the relative rankings of the front and back hands are determined, identifying both highest ranked and second highest ranked hands among the frontline front hands, the frontline back hands, the backline front hands, and the backline back hands. The four pots are then apportioned between the controllers of the highest-ranked and second-highest hands corresponding to each pot, each apportionment according to a respective predetermined formula.

  • Patent number: 6063282
Abstract: A filtration apparatus for extracting particles from a fluid sample is provided. The filtration apparatus comprises a filtration well plate which forms one or more filtration wells. Each filtration well has a proximal chamber into which the fluid sample may be deposited and a distal channel into which a filter is fitted. Each filter comprises a plurality of vertically oriented cylindrical micro fibers defining a set of vertically oriented linear pores. Upon application of a sufficient downward force to the fluid sample, the fluid sample is driven into the filter and the particles are expelled from a lower end of the filter.

  • Patent number: 5981050
Abstract: A multiple ply composite structure used to reinforce, seal and shape concrete structures has a first ply formed of unidirected continuous filament reinforcements which are bonded together by a thermosetting polymeric resin matrix. A second ply comprises a plurality of separately spaced protuberances, each of which is individually coated with a hardenable thermosetting polymeric resin. The hardenable thermosetting polymeric resin of the second ply bonds the first ply to the second ply by forming a concave resin meniscus which anchors each of the protuberances of the second ply to the first ply.

  • Patent number: 5941204
Abstract: A heating and pressurization system for a liquid-cooled engine having a cooling system is provided. The heating and pressurization system includes a coolant circulation and pressurization system comprising a coolant tank, a coolant pump receiving coolant from the coolant tank through a manifold, a coolant outlet conduit, and a coolant inlet conduit. The coolant outlet conduit and coolant inlet conduit each have an end which has a double dry break quick disconnect coupling which is detachably fixable to the cooling system of the engine and to another double dry break quick disconnect coupling attached to the coolant tank though an access passage. An immersion heater is incorporated into the coolant circulation and pressurization system which is operable to heat coolant circulating therein.

  • Patent number: 5885046
Abstract: Disclosed is a double bogey arrangement comprised of four wheels mounted in an opposed fashion for supporting the T-shaped upper end of a road lane barrier. The double bogey structure includes an elastomeric mounting to absorb operating shocks while transferring lane barriers from one lane to another. The four-wheel bogey precludes problems existing with present lane barrier positioning vehicles wherein the support wheels are caught in the separation between the series of lane barriers, thereby causing damage to the support wheels and to the lane barriers.

  • Patent number: 5871213
Abstract: A method of bet placement and wager distribution for use with gambling games conducted in rounds; each round frontline players place wagers on their own final ranking in the associated game into a frontline players' pot, and backline players place wagers on the relative final rankings of the frontline players into a backline players' pot. The game round is fully played out, and then the relative rankings of the frontline players are determined, identifying a highest ranked frontline player or players and a second highest ranked frontline player or players. The relative rankings of the backline players are then determined by reference to the rankings of the frontline players they selected, identifying a highest ranked backline player or players and a second-highest ranked backline player or players.

  • Patent number: 5851491
Abstract: A filter for a pipette tip is provided, comprising a plurality of vertically-oriented cylindrical micro fibers cohesively bundled in adjoining columns which are composed of a core of an autoclavable material and an outer coating of a hydrophobic material. The micro fibers are packed together such that each micro fiber is compressed against the other fibers and the inner surface of the pipette tip. The compression of the fibers creates vertically-oriented pores interstitially between the micro fibers, each pore having a pore size at various points within the filter. Each filter has an equal predetermined density of micro fibers per square millimeter in its uncompressed state, such that when the filter is compressed, its pore sizes will be consistent with another filter used in a pipette tips of the same size and shape.

The method and system include provisions to elongate portions of phonemes that have brief and/or rapidly changing acoustic spectra, such as occur in the stop consonants b and d in the phonemes /ba/ and /da/, as well as reduce the duration of the steady state portion of the syllable. In addition, some emphasis is added to the rapidly changing segments of these phonemes. Additionally, the disclosure includes method for and computer software to modify fluent speech to make the modified speech better recognizable by communicatively impaired individuals. Finally, the disclosure includes method for and computer software to train temporal processing abilities, specifically speed and precision of temporal integration, sequencing and serial memory.
