Abstract: A connecting structure includes a shield wire 1, a ground wire 2, an upper resin tip 15, a lower resin tip 16, and a low-melting welding material 17. First, the ground wire 2 is overlaid on the shield wire 1 in cross. Next, overlapping portions of the shield wire 1 and the ground wire 2 are interposed between the resin tips 15 and 16. By oscillating the resin tips 15 and 16 with ultrasonic waves, respective outside rinds 1d, 2d of the wires 1,2 are removed in the vicinity of the overlapping portions. A braided wire 1c of the wire 1 is electrically connected with a core line 2a of the wire 2 and, simultaneously, the resin tips 15 and 16 are welded to each other to seal up the vicinity of a connecting part S1. With the ultrasonic oscillation, a low-melting materials 17 is molten to flow into the connecting part S1, so that the braided wire 1c of the wire 1 is joined to the core line 2a of the wire 2 through the molten material 17.
Abstract: In a vacuum pressure control system, the vacuum pressure in a reaction chamber 10 is measured by vacuum pressure sensors 14 and 15 (S22), the measured value is changed at a set vacuum pressure changing speed commanded from the exterior or determined and stored in advance in a controller of the system (S24). The changed value is sequentially generated as an internal command. In response to the sequentially generated internal commands, a desired value of the feedback control is changed in sequence (S26), so that the feedback control is executed as follow-up control (S27). Accordingly, the vacuum pressure in the reaction chamber 10 can be uniformly changed to a desired vacuum at a set vacuum pressure changing speed.

In the process and apparatus used to electrodeposit the foil on a drum cathode, electric current is passed through an electrolyte to the cathode from outboard edge anodes at a current density greater than the current density passed from a central anode to the cathode.
Abstract: A screening method for identifying mutant polypeptides having at least one amino acid difference from a wild type protein involved in a receptor-ligand interaction is disclosed. Also disclosed are mutant polypeptides of the hematopoietic growth factor flt3-Ligand (flt3-L) identified using this method, nucleic acids encoding these flt3-L mutant polypeptides, and methods of treatment involving in vitro and in vivo use of the mutant polypeptides and nucleic acids.
Abstract: A “virtual string” is generated for synthesizing sound produced by plucked-string instruments using recurrent neural networks. The disclosed recurrent neural network, called a Scattering Recurrent Network (SRN), is based on the physics of waves traveling in the string. Vibration measured from a plucked string is used as the training data for the SRN. The trained SRN is a virtual model capable of generating tones similar to the tones generated by the physical string. As with a real string, the “virtual string” corresponding to the SRN responds differently to different types of string “plucking” motions.

Abstract: In a small and thin memory module for sharing data among electronic devices such as information processing apparatuses, a write prohibit state can be visually recognized. A conductive seal is attached to a predetermined position on a support member, thereby setting the memory module in the write prohibit state. The conductive seal visually indicates the write prohibit state. When the memory module is mounted in a connector section of a card-shaped holder, connector pins are electrically connected to each other via the conductive seal. Thus, a write prohibit mechanism is realized at low cost.
Abstract: An optical disc drive control apparatus according to the present invention comprises a disc drive into or from which various optical discs are inserted or ejected. The system includes a first memory for storing various players that play back various optical discs, a second memory for storing a table in which combinations of various information recording mediums and various players corresponding to these mediums are written, and a disc manager, which comprises a unit for sensing the type of an optical disc inserted into the disc drive, a unit for referring to the table in the second memory and deriving the type of a player corresponding to the sensed type of optical disc, as well as the type of data stored on the disk, and a unit for driving one of the various players stored in the first memory which is of the type derived by the deriving means and causing the player to play back the optical disc.

Abstract: A conduit is provided to provide a bypass around a blockage in the coronary artery. The conduit is adapted to be positioned in the myocardium or heart wall to provide a passage for blood to flow between a chamber of the heart such as the left ventricle and the coronary artery, distal to the blockage. Abstract: The invention relates to a biaxially oriented polyester film which has at least three layers and has better optical properties than films of the prior art together with very good processing performance, and, after it is metalized or coated with oxidic materials, is a good barrier to oxygen, and which is built up on each side from at least one base layer B and outer layers A and C applied to this base layer, where these outer layers have a defined number of elevations of a defined height and diameter. The invention further relates to the use of the film and to a process for the production thereof.

Abstract: Secure computation environments are protected from bogus or rogue load modules, executables and other data elements through use of digital signatures, seals and certificates issued by a verifying authority. A verifying authority—which may be a trusted independent third party—tests the load modules or other executables to verify that their corresponding specifications are accurate and complete, and then digitally signs the load module or other executable based on tamper resistance work factor classification. Secure computation environments with different tamper resistance work factors use different verification digital signature authentication techniques (e.g., different signature algorithms and/or signature verification keys)—allowing one tamper resistance work factor environment to protect itself against load modules from another, different tamper resistance work factor environment. Several dissimilar digital signature algorithms may be used to reduce vulnerability from algorithm.

Abstract: The invention relates to the installation of an operating system at a local computer connected or connectable to a remote management computer. To do this a standard operating system is provided on a storage medium at the local computer. Then a modular definition of an operating system model, defining a customised configuration of the standard operating system, is supplied from a memory at the management computer to the local computer. The standard installation of the operating system to a memory of the local computer is performed using the standard operating system on the storage medium and, in addition, this is customized using the model. The use of a modular definition of a model of a customized operating system installation facilitates the maintenance of the customized installation procedure.
