  • Patent number: 6426226
Abstract: Rapid screening for activities and selectivities of catalyst libraries having addressable test sites is achieved by contacting potential catalysts at the test sites with reactant streams forming product plumes at the adressable test sites. The product plumes are screened by translating a sample probe and/or the library to a position that one addressable site is in proximity to the sampling probe sample orifice and passing a portion of the reaction products through the sampling orifice forming a free jet expanded volume in at least one vacuum stage and passing a portion of the cooled and reduced pressure jet stream through an inlet orifice of a mass spectrometer for analysis. The mass spectrometric analysis may be combined with resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization methods of detection for very rapid library evaluation. Suitable reactors, microreactors, and product transfer sample microprobes for product transfer to a mass spectrometer are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6360453
Abstract: A shoe having a sole contour which follows a theoretically ideal stability plane as a basic concept, but which deviates outwardly therefrom to provide greater than natural stability. Thickness variations outwardly from the stability plane are disclosed, along with density variations to achieve a similar greater than natural stability.

  • Patent number: 5777235
Abstract: In a measuring arrangement comprising a strain gage section (10) constructed of at least one SG (strain gage) (15), and integrated in a measurement pickup (1), an additional circuit (20) amplifies modulated output signals of the SG section (10), and is also integrated in the measurement pickup (1). The measuring arrangement thus obtained is used for general measuring tasks, particularly for commercially available domestic or industrial scales including weighing devices operated by means of commercially available batteries. As an additional circuit, a modulation amplifier can be used which consists of a modulator constructed as squarewave generator, an alternating-voltage amplifier and a demodulator, the demodulator being a bridge rectifier composed of four electronic (on/off) switches or two electrical changeover switches.

  • Patent number: 5772714
Abstract: A process for producing opaque silica glass in which a quartz raw material grain having a particle size of 10 to 350 .mu.m is filled into a heat resistant mold, the quartz raw material grain is heated in a non-oxidizing atmosphere from a room temperature up to a temperature lower by 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. than a temperature at which the above raw material grain is melted at a temperature-increase speed not exceeding 50.degree. C./minute, then, slowly heated up to a temperature higher by 10.degree. to 80.degree. C. than the temperature at which the quartz raw material grain is melted at the speed of 10.degree. C./minute or less, and the heated quartz raw material grain is further maintained at the temperature higher by 10.degree. to 80.degree. C. than the temperature at which the quartz raw material grain is melted, followed by cooling down to the room temperature.

  • Patent number: 5752763
Abstract: A light device includes a housing which has an end with a bulb mounting hole and a conductive plate around the bulb mounting hole, and a light bulb to extend through the bulb mounting hole. The light bulb has a base which includes a cylindrical contact portion and a tip contact portion. The cylindrical contact portion is free of screw threads and has an annular flange. A clamping member clamps the annular flange against the conductive plate so as to establish electrical connection between the light bulb and the conductive plate. The light bulb will not loosen upon impact.
