Abstract: A rotatable fluidised bed incinerator comprises a rotatable combustion chamber, a means for rotating the combustion chamber, a means for introducing combustible material into the combustion chamber, and a means for introducing a gas into the combustion chamber to create a fluidised bed within the chamber. A flow area of the combustion chamber remains substantially constant or increases with decreasing chamber radius.
Abstract: A radially wound tubular fiber disk comprises a single strand of tubular fiber having a feed inlet at one end and a feed outlet at the other. Radially arranged adhesive strips forming seams maintain a desired spacing between adjacent convolutions of the tubular fiber disk and hold the disk in place.
Abstract: A multivesicular liposome composition containing at least one acid other than a hydrohalic acid and at least one biologically active substance, the vesicles having defined size distribution, adjustable average size, internal chamber size and number, provides a controlled release rate of the biologically active substance from the composition. A process for making the composition features addition of a non-hydrohalic acid effective to sustain and control the rate of release of an encapsulated biologically active substance from the vesicles at therapeutic levels in vivo.

Abstract: Polynucleotide and polypeptide sequences encoding a novel tumor suppressor, HIC-1, are provided. Also included is a method for detecting a cell proliferative disorder associated, with HIC-1. HIC-1 is a marker which can be used diagnostically, prognostically and therapeutically over the course of such disorders.

Abstract: A hemocompatible surface-modifying additive is provided for modifying polyurethane or polyurethane urea substrates. The additive has a polyurethane or polyurethane urea hard block or an alternative block which is miscible with the poly(urethane) or poly(urethane-urea) base polymer, a polysiloxane hydrophobic soft block, an optional hydrophilic spacer and a peptide selected from the group consisting of Arg-Gly-Asp, X-Arg-Gly-Asp, Arg-Gly-Asp-X and X-Arg-Gly-Asp-X', wherein X and X' are amino acids.
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for delivering an amount of aerosolized medicine for inspiration by a patient in response to the occurrence of appropriate delivery point or points in the patient's detected breath flow. The aerosol medication may be administered as one or more pulses having a pulse width, shape, and frequency that will maximize the respirable fraction of the aerosolized compound being administered. The delivery point or points may be predetermined or determined from a prior inspiratory flow for depositing the selected medication at one or more desired locations in the patient's airway. Determined delivery points are recursively lowered for each inspiratory flow that does not satisfy one of the predetermined and previously lowered threshold.
Abstract: Monoclonal antibodies have been produced which specifically bind to epitopes found in the cytoplasmic domain of the transferrin receptor (TR). The antibodies are useful for isolating sequences in a sample which contain TR cytoplasmic domain.

Abstract: Xenogeneic tissue is introduced into an immunocompromised host for interacting with agents and using such interaction for evaluating efficacy of drugs and vaccines, producing xenogeneic monoclonal antibodies, evaluating the effect of the various agents on specific tissues and the like. Particularly, drugs can be evaluated for their efficacy against a wide variety of pathogens which infect xenogeneic tissue, agents can be evaluated for their effect on the xenogeneic immune system and monoclonal antibodies to a predetermined epitope may be produced.
