  • Patent number: 4275873
Abstract: A process for opening folded proof sheets, particularly for their positioning on the conveyor plate of a thread stitching machine, involves moving a stack of the proof sheets along devices which separate the individual sheets until they reach the point where they are all opened. The separating devices comprise blown air suction plates which cause the free outer corner of the adjacent sheet to be drawn up by the suction effect of air jets and thus separated from the rest of the stack. The portion of the sheet which was separated is then guided away from the next blown air suction plate to permit the next proof sheet to be opened.

  • Patent number: 4266907
Abstract: The manipulation of components of a fluid transmission system, particularly portions of a conduit through which heated gas is delivered to a blast furnace is facilitated by the use of a self-propelled vehicle having mounted thereon a component support mechanism. The vehicle and component support mechanism cooperate to define a pair of displaced vertical pivotal axes whereby the component support mechanism can be readily maneuvered into engagement with the conduit portion to be manipulated. The apparatus is further characterized by a lifting arm assembly which enables the component support mechanism to be raised and lowered without changing the orientation of a supported conduit portion. The present invention relates to a device for handling the various components of an installation for the injection of pre-heated air into a shaft furnace. The invention likewise relates to a multi-purpose self-propelling carriage equipped with a device of this kind.

  • Patent number: 4247353
Abstract: Textured sheet material is produced by a process which includes two printing steps and two separate applications of plastisol in the form of discontinuous layers. The plastisol layers are applied over respective of the printed patterns and the first layer of plastisol is gelled, but not fused, prior to the second printing step which provides an image thereon. The process enables production of a relief pattern having "valleys" of two different depths.

  • Patent number: 4242911
Abstract: The non-invasive testing of soft body tissue is accomplished with the use of a beam of ultrasonic energy which may be focused at varying depths in a patient. The energy content of the ultrasound beam is varied as a function of depth of focus to thereby employ the minimum energy required for proper resolution at the chosen examination depth. Signals commensurate with echoes received by a transducer having an array of coaxial annular electrodes thereon are combined in a manner which results in a good signal-to-noise ratio and minimum attenuation thereby improving the quality of the information derived from the examination procedure.
