  • Patent number: 5769647
Abstract: An outlet door assembly that is retainable in both an open and a closed position is presented. In accordance with the present invention, the door comprises a pair of mounting arms having inwardly extending protrusions which are received in notches for retaining the door in the closed and open position. In one embodiment the connector housing has an outwardly extending protrusion within each of a pair of notches to define the positions for retaining the protrusions on the door arms. In another embodiment a door holder is employed which has pairs of notches, with one pair of notches receiving the protrusions of the door arms therein for retaining the door in a closed position and another pair of notches receiving the protrusions of the door arms therein for retaining the door in an open position. In both embodiments the door includes a channel for receiving an identification icon therein.

  • Patent number: 5769581
Abstract: A direct tension indicating and maintaining washer has a first surface having at least one protuberance formed thereon and a second surface having at least one indentation formed therein opposite the protuberance. The inner diameter of the direct tension indicating and maintaining washer has an inner diameter wall meeting the second surface at an inner diameter edge. The outer diameter has an outer diameter wall meeting the second surface at an outer diameter edge. The inner diameter edge and the outer diameter edge lie in different planes. This causes the flattened direct tension indicating and maintaining washer to exert force against a bolt and maintain bolt tension. An alternative direct tension indicating and maintaining washer includes indicating material positioned in the indentation and a channel formed in the second surface leading from the indentation to the outside diameter of the direct tension indicating washer.

  • Patent number: 5768148
Abstract: A utility for rapid development of three dimensional representations of electrical distribution switchgear is provided. These switchgear elevations have logical connections to the switchgear devices. An elevation can be modified to any dimensions with an infinite number of combinations and arrangements of meters and protection devices to quickly and accurately represent a customer's switchgear. Also, an event logger utility is provided for viewing, organizing and analyzing unusual behavior in a power system. The event logger utility passes a received message as an un-acknowledgeable or acknowledgeable alarm or as an event based upon the contents of a initialization file. A utility for the waveform capture is provided for viewing and analysis of waveforms (e.g., Fourier, frequency and/or harmonic analysis) captured by sophisticated metering devices. Waveforms from a device may be super-imposed for analysis. Processing of the collected waveform data to display any one of the eight waveform parameters (i.e., I.

  • Patent number: 5764156
Abstract: The transponder detector has an antenna for radiating a power signal to an identification transponder of an unidentified type and for reading a response signal characteristic from the transponder. A plurality of power signal and response signal characteristic parameters associated with transponder communication protocols are serially selected and implemented while an analysis of the response signal characteristic is carried out to determine whether the response signal characteristic matches the selected parameters and to produce an identification match signal. The result of the match signal is displayed as text identifying the transponder make and model number on an LCD display, in the case of a hand-held universal transponder detector. The device is particularly useful for confirming the presence and type of transponders embedded in the head of keys.

  • Patent number: 5760763
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhancing the operation of pointing devices currently in use with video display environments by reducing the amount of motion necessary to cause the movement of parts of the display over distances of the screen environment within existing pointing devices and pointing device control programs. This is accomplished by allowing the customary operation, of the pointing device, presently including computer "mice", "trackballs"; and "touchpads", or any similar device, within a predefined "select area". Within the select area, pointing and control functions are performed in the manner normal to the chosen supported controller device. Movement of the control device or cursor beyond this established range or select area invokes the "slide" function in which the cursor movement becomes automated, allowing the user to cause the cursor to traverse significant distances of the screen with little effort.

  • Patent number: 5748872
Abstract: A data processing system containing a monolithic network of cells with sufficient redundancy provided through direct logical replacement of defective cells by spare cells to allow a large monolithic array of cells without uncorrectable defects to be organized, where the cells have a variety of useful properties. The data processing system according to the present invention overcomes the chip-size limit and off-chip connection bottlenecks of chip-based architectures, the von Neumann bottleneck of uniprocessor architectures, the memory and I/O bottlenecks of parallel processing architectures, and the input bandwidth bottleneck of high-resolution displays, and supports integration of up to an entire massively parallel data processing system into a single monolithic entity.

  • Patent number: 5748767
Abstract: To aid a medical practitioner in positioning a surgical instrument or implant when performing surgery on or examining portions of a patient, patient data is developed which identifies the position and orientation of the portion to which surgical procedures or examinations are to be applied. The position and orientation of the instrument or implant is sensed and instrument data is developed from this sensing. The patient data is converted to objective signals to be displayed on a video display, and the instrument data is converted to instrument signals for presenting the position and orientation of the instrument or implant on the same display. Thus, by watching the display, the medical practitioner is aided in manipulating the insrument or implant relative to the portion.

  • Patent number: 5740647
Abstract: Roofing system is presented comprising a built-up roof(BUR) assembly or modified roof membrane assembly (MRM) which is adhered to gypsum, concrete or composite sheets or panels which have been loose-laid over a roof substrate. This allows the BUR or MRM assemblies to conduct heat to or receive heat from the thermal mass of the loose laid mass-weighted sheets immediately below the BUR or MRM assemblies. The gypsum panels, preformed concrete panels, poured-in-place concrete or composite mass-weighted construction panels which are placed between the BUR or MRM assemblies and the roof substrate causes more gradual changes in temperature between the roof assembly and the roof substrate.

  • Patent number: 5737198
Abstract: A hybrid active power filter having programmed impedance characteristics is presented. In accordance with which, a passive device comprising a capacitor C.sub.F is connected in series with an active device which are together connected in shunt with a power source and a load at transmission lines of a power system. Capacitor C.sub.F substantially supports the full-line voltage V.sub.H of the power source, whereby the active filter is exposed to a substantially lower voltage than the line voltage V.sub.H. The active device includes an active filter, i.e., an inverter current regulator with a programmable controller for executing a control algorithm. The controller of the active device receives signals corresponding to a voltage V.sub.M, at the low side of filter capacitor C.sub.F. Voltage V.sub.M is at a substantially lower voltage than the line voltage V.sub.H, whereby the cost of sensing voltage V.sub.M is significantly less than sensing the high line voltage V.sub.H.

  • Patent number: 5732776
Abstract: A downhole production well control system is provided for automatically controlling downhole tools in response to sensed selected downhole parameters. An important feature of this invention is that the automatic control is initiated downhole without an initial control signal from the surface or from some other external source. This control system generally comprises downhole sensors, downhole electromechanical devices and downhole computerized control electronics whereby the control electronics automatically control the electromechanical devices based on input from the downhole sensors. Thus, using the downhole sensors, the downhole computerized control system will monitor actual downhole parameters (such as pressure, temperature, flow, gas influx, etc.) and automatically execute control instructions when the monitored downhole parameters are outside a selected operating range (e.g., indicating an unsafe condition).
