The one-chip microcomputer 21 monitors the mounting state of the ink cartridge 33 by detecting the level of a SENSE signal in order to prevent unnecessary initialization operations for the head of the ink cartridge so as not to reduce the number of sheets available for recording and not to increase running costs.
