  • Patent number: 4415131
Abstract: A lightweight, man carrying aircraft including a skeletal fuselage assembly in combination with a primary arc-shaped lifting airfoil having variable camber, incidence angle, and pitching moment and a secondary stabilizing airfoil of a tubular, ring-like configuration. The arc-shaped primary airfoil is superior to traditional low speed airfoil forms due to its high aerodynamic efficiency, inherent design simplicity and strength. The ring-tail assembly, offering marginal aerodynamic lift, contributes significantly to the in-flight stability and safety of the aircraft. Both airfoil members are independently controllable and constructed of a fabric or like skin material which is fitted over a wing assembly and tensioned into an operable airfoil form by the aerodynamic forces of the air during flight. Typically, the wing assemblies are supported and maintained by a lightweight, tubular fuselage structure to which is affixed the propulsion system, control mechanisms and ground support assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4403916
Abstract: A wind turbine having a generally vertically extending support tower upon which are mounted a front or blade section and a rear or tail section. The front section includes a generally horizontal drive shaft which is connected to a vertical drive shaft in the support tower. The rear or tail section is rotatably mounted on the support structure to permit radial oscillation of the tail section. The blade and tail section are releasably interconnected to each other such that upon manual operation of a latch, the rear or tail section can pivot independently from the front or blade section. The front section is upwardly inclined relative to the rear section whereby a universal joint is provided in the vertical drive shaft to insure that a portion of the vertical drive shaft remains perpendicular to the horizontal drive shaft connected to the front or blade section.

  • Patent number: 4386047
Abstract: A knock-out method and apparatus for use in connection with the molding of articles, such as, for example, oil seals fabricated from elastomeric material bonded to a rigid casing, including a plurality of plunger members to apply successive sequential forces to selected sets of molded oil seals for removal thereof from frictional engagement within the molding machine and permit subsequent retrieval from the molding machine. The plurality of plunger members move upward into contact with oil seals retained in the molding center plate to apply sequential forces to the selected sets of the molded articles to position the seals for ready access on top of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4361613
Abstract: Composite building structures, such as foam core panels or the like. The panels comprise one or more foam core sections, preferably cores which include fire retardant additives. The exterior sheathing for the foam cores is a multiple laminate containing an inorganic filler material, such as glass fibers or ground carbonaceous or siliceous material; the filler is bound in place by a fire retardant, furan-based resin. The method includes forming a plurality of layers by depositing the resin and the filler alternately in a mold, thereafter placing boards or like core structures thereover and covering the exposed surfaces by multi-ply laminates of the fire retardant furan-based resin containing the glass fiber, carbonaceous or siliceous fillers. The method is also applicable to cover existing foam core installations used in building structures.
