Abstract: A technique is disclosed herein for evaluating solar exposure at various points in any one of a number of given geographic locations for any given period during the year in order to determine the most efficient location for a solar collector. This technique may be carried out utilizing a single apparatus which is also disclosed herein and which includes a solar pointing device and the necessary indicia to appropriately orient the pointing device with respect to its environment at the various points selected. Once the pointing device is oriented, it is moved in a solar pointing position in an way which determines the path of the sun between sunrise and sunset for each point. From these paths, the amount of actual solar exposure at each of the points selected can be determined taking into account any resulting obstructions such as trees, rooflines or the like.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for non-destructively testing fabricated metal components with eddy currents. The apparatus includes a coil for generating a magnetic field and means for concentrating the magnetic field into a small inspection volume in the component being tested. The magnetic field induces eddy currents in the component. The coil and the field concentrating means are moved in a manner to scan the component in a predetermined manner with the concentrated eddy currents.
Abstract: A graphic recorder for use in recording information on a strip chart. The recorder includes a housing having a pair of rollers mounted at opposite ends of an opening across which the strip chart moves. Radially outwardly extending pins are mounted at opposite ends of each of the rollers for registering with and engaging positioning holes formed along the edges of the strip chart. Drive apparatus is provided for reversibly turning the rollers conjointly to move the strip chart along an X-axis. Apparatus is provided for creating a partial vacuum in a chamber within the housing so as to tension the portion of the strip chart suspended between the rollers along a curved path for properly positioning the chart with respect to the pins on the rollers. A recording head is mounted on the cover of the housing for movement along a Y-axis for marking the strip chart.
