Patent number: 4403930Abstract: An apex seal structure of two-piece construction including a main or sealing piece and an under or support piece which are disposed in a sealing groove in a rotor apex portion with a superposed relationship with each other. The main piece has a bottom surface which is in engagement with the top surface of the under piece, the bottom surface of the main piece being perpendicular to the side surfaces thereof, and the top surface of the under piece to the side surfaces thereof. In order to prevent inclination of the main piece in the sealing groove, the gap between the main piece and the sealing groove is decreased. For the purpose of avoiding any delay of induction of gas pressure behind the pieces, the width of the under piece is decreased with respect to that of the main piece so that an adequate gap is provided between the under piece and the sealing groove.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1980Date of Patent: September 13, 1983Assignee: Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hiroshi Kodama

Patent number: 4396016Abstract: An automatic intravenous flow regulator for regulating the infusion rate of a parenteral solution flowing from an intravenous fluid container to a patient. When the level of parenteral solution in the container is above a threshold level, the infusion takes place at a first flow rate. When the level of fluid in the container drops below the threshold level, fluid flow continues but at a second flow rate less than the first flow rate. The flow rate is controlled principally from outside the IV container; while in a second embodiment, the flow rate is controlled from within the IV container. Other embodiments are disclosed including one in which the initial flow rate may be adjusted; one in which the fluid is filtered prior to delivery to the patient; one in which the initial flow rate is maintained at a constant value with time, secondary flow rate remains fixed, and complete filtration of the intravenous solution being infused is provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1977Date of Patent: August 2, 1983Inventor: Karl E. Patent number: 4384678Abstract: A valving arrangement for use in the production of an aerated product such as chocolate, in which the product is pressurized with a gas, preferably a soluble gas such as carbon dioxide, wherein the valving arrangement includes a first valve plate (22) having a tapered orifice (22A) therein, a second valve plate (25) which is adjustable relative to the first plate in a plane transverse to the axis of the tapered orifice, and having a corresponding tapered orifice (25A) therein, the axis of which is parallel to the first axis, whereby the flow passage through these orifices can be preadjusted. Means are provided to close off the flow passage through the orifices abruptly without altering the preadjustment of the flow passage. This can be achieved by inserting a rod (16, 30) into the upstream orifice or by moving the valve plate a greater distance than the diameters of the orifices.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1981Date of Patent: May 24, 1983Assignee: Mono Oakes LimitedInventor: David W. Patent number: 4379262Abstract: The invention is suitable for a small nuclear magnetic resonance pulse head applicable to a part of the body in the manner of ultrasonic systems. The arrangement generates a field which varies in amplitude with distance from the head, being uniform at surfaces which intrude into the body. Resonance is excited in one such surface and a gradient restricts resonance to one line therein. The phase is then dispersed along the line and the signal sensed as a function of position therealong.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1980Date of Patent: April 5, 1983Assignee: Picker International LimitedInventor: Ian R. Patent number: 4377297Abstract: A ski, particularly an Alpine ski, wherein the steering of the ski while edging, particularly its ability to execute carved turns, and its edge grip, are improved in that the lateral boundary lines of its bottom edges are so designed that the width of the ski has a relative maximum adjacent to the midpoint of the ski and a relative minimum in the forebody and in the afterbody of the ski. To facilitate the use of the design according to the invention in skis differing in length, it is proposed to superpose a concave base curve and a convex curve portion at the center of the ski. In order to facilitate the use of numerically controlled machines for manufacture, a complete mathematical expression for an embodiment of the invention is stated.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1980Date of Patent: March 22, 1983Assignee: Fisher Gesellschaft m.b.H.Inventor: Adolf Staufer

Patent number: 4377805Abstract: A method and apparatus for encoding or decoding data in accordance with a coding format, referred to herein as Y.phi. and which is based on the 3PM coding format. Data encoded in accordance with the Y.phi. format is generated by initially encoding, at a prearranged clocking frequency, binary data in accordance with 3PM format, applying such encoded data to one input terminal of an exclusive OR gate and applying clocking pulses, at the prearranged frequency to the other input terminal. Decoding is similarly achieved by passing the encoded data through an exclusive OR gate. Data encoded according to the Y.phi. format is particularly advantageous on account of the relatively high density of flux transitions which it generates, which may be desirable in certain circumstances particularly if both high and low rate data is to be encoded on the same magnetic tape.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1981Date of Patent: March 22, 1983Assignee: EMI LimitedInventor: Paul Youhill
