Abstract: A system for making an on-line determination of the degree of alloying in galvannealed steel sheets are provided, which includes an X-ray tube for generating X-ray, detectors for detecting the X-ray diffraction intensity of the .zeta. phase and .GAMMA. phase of Fe--Zn intermetallic compounds phases of the galvannealed steel sheet and a detector for detecting the background intensity, all of the detectors being located same plane on the surface of the galvannealed steel sheets, and further includes an arithmetic unit for receiving the outputs of the detectors to compute the X-ray diffraction intensities. Preferably, this system includes a detector for detecting the X-ray diffraction intensity of the .delta..sub.1 phase.
Abstract: A sling to hold and support a pillow or other stuffing material for use by patients during their recovery period from major surgical procedures such as cardiac, abdominal or pelvic surgical procedures. The sling supports the pillow or other stuffing material from the patient in a position to enable the patient to easily and quickly use the pillow or stuffing material as a "cough pillow". Supporting the "cough pillow" in close proximity to the area on which the surgical procedure is formed and in a position for ready access and grasping by the patient, enables the patient to have free use of their hands and upper extremities but yet maintains the pillow or stuffing material in position for immediate use.
Abstract: A crab extractor including opposed, large cylindrical rollers oriented in vertically superimposed relation with the lower roller being perforated. Cleaned, uncooked crabs which have been broken along a longitudinal center line from front to rear along the bottom are fed between the rollers with the feelers first by a belt conveyor. The rollers are driven which forces crab meat through the perforations or holes in the bottom roller which is scraped off by a doctor blade into an ager which conveys the extracted meat to a point of discharge. The shell components of the crab are not forced through the perforations and are scraped off of both rollers by doctor blades onto a conveyor. The rollers are interconnected by large meshing gears at one end thereof in order to rotate both rollers at the same speed in opposite directions. The lower roller is driven which in turn drives the upper roller and the auger which conveys the extracted meat from interiorally of the bottom roller is independently powered.
Abstract: A lock for an adjustable wrench to lock the adjustable jaw of the wrench in adjusted position. The lock includes a slide mounted on the wrench handle adjacent the head of the wrench for longitudinal slidable and guided movement with a thumb receiving member at the end of the slide remote from the wrench head and an arcuately curved recess on the inner surface of the slide engaging with the rotatable worm wheel used to adjust the adjustable jaw of the wrench thereby retaining the worm wheel and adjustable jaw in adjusted position by frictional engagement between the slide and worm wheel.
Abstract: A process for reducing asphaltene content of crude oil and oil-containing materials to improve rheological properties of crude oils enhancing the water-extractabilities of sulphur and metals contained in them. The process employs the cold cracking effect of a binary acid solution containing, preferably, hydrochloric acid and oleic acid. The process is particularly applicable to the exploitation of heavy and ultra-heavy oil deposits, to oil recovery from oil-containing tar sand, shale or clay and to the cleaning of oil tanks, garments and clogged oil-pipelines.
Abstract: A laterally tearing tape strip torn from a roll having a longitudinal axis. The tape is originally annularly rolled onto the roll. Several cuts extending parallel with the longitudinal axis of the roll extend radially through the tape to divide the tape into a plurality of laterally tearing tape strips. A portion of the tape and therefore each tape strip does not include adhesive over a defined area which serves as a leading edge for each strip, a remaining portion of which does not include adhesive, to facilitate removal of a laterally tearing tape strip from the roll.
Abstract: An improved liquid crystal-aligning coating composed mainly of a specified high molecule, mainly a polyether polyimide or a polyimide, and capable of controlling the alignment and pretilt angle of liquid crystals; a liquid crystal display element using the coating; and a dinitro compound and a diol compound each as an intermediate of a diamino compound constituting the polyimide ether, are provided, which specified high molecule contains in its molecular long chain, a substituted cyclohexylidene group or a cyclohexylidene group expressed by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.6 of the cyclohexyl group each represent H, 1-15C alkyl group, a cyclohexyl group or a cyclohexyl group having 1-15C alkyl group, and may be each the same or partly or totally different.
Abstract: A system enabling a digital video signal to be recorded and reproduced utilizing a solid state memory store (1) as the recording medium comprises a plurality of random access memory sub-systems (1A-1D) each incorporating a read/write buffer (2). The buffers (2) are connected in parallel to a common video data bus (3) and addressing and control inputs of the subsystems (1A-1D) are connected in parallel to a common control bus (5). One or more read/write sub-systems (6) are arranged to receive and/or output digital video signals in real time via an input (10) or output (11), such signals being transfered to and/or from the store (1) via a corresponding buffer (7; 9) coupled to the data bus (3). The capacity of the buffers (2, 7, 9) and the data bus (3) is a multiple of that of the input (10) or output (11) so that each read/write system (6) can transfer accumulated data at a slower rate than it is received or output.
Abstract: An automobile air conditioning system has a bypass air passage for directing air, before it is heated, to a car interior via a vent outlet. A bypass door is disposed in the bypass air passage, which has an opening which is automatically controlled according to a desired air conditioning temperature in an automatic air conditioning mode. The bypass door control can be intentionally changed to a mild control mode, in which the opening of the bypass door is automatically controlled to become smaller as the temperature of air, which either is in the bypass passage or is to be introduced into the bypass passage, becomes lower in a predetermined range of temperatures.
Abstract: To form a paved surface, a laminate is used which has on the bottom a geotextile fabric with the mesh structure on the top. The fabric is adhered to the road base by spraying or spreading a bituminous liquid onto the base and laying on the laminate and applying further adhesive to the top of the laminate; asphalt is then placed and rolled. The laminate is formed of a square or rectangular mesh structure which has oriented stands connected at junctions which are thicker than the strands and have low-orientated or unorientated nodules. On one side the surface of the nodules are melted and the fabric is pressed into the nodules so that the plastics material of the nodules envelopes some of the fibres or filaments of the fabric to form a mechanical bond. In this way, the oriented strands stand proud of the fabric, to enable the asphalt aggregate to penetrate into the meshes and interlock with the strands.

Abstract: A seed drill is provided including opposite side ground engaging support wheels journaled from opposite ends of a transverse beam of the seed drill. The longitudinal center of the beam includes a horizontal, forwardly directed towing tongue and the opposite ends of the beams include forwardly and upwardly inclined support arms from whose opposite ends the remote ends of a pair of axially aligned and spaced apart drums are journaled, the adjacent ends of the drums being journaled from the upper portion of upstanding support structure carried by the tongue a spaced distance forward of the beam. The ground engagable wheels are drivingly connected to the drums and the latter include axially spaced circumferentially extending rows of openings through which seeds may be dispensed and longitudinally spaced portions of the beam have drag-type link chain sections anchored relative thereto in registry with the axially spaced circumferential rows of openings formed in the drums.
Abstract: A method of deactivating electromagnetic detection labels comprising a resonant circuit, in which an interrogation field is generated, the frequency of which is varied through a frequency range comprising the resonant frequency of the resonant circuit of the detection label, and in which a label is deactivated with an amplified interrogation field. According to the invention, the frequency of the interrogation field is continuously and periodically varied between a first and a second frequency; upon detection of a detection label, the resonant frequency of the label is detected, and at at least one of the subsequent times the periodically varying frequency passes the detected frequency, the field intensity at the location of the detection label is greatly increased for a short period of time.
Abstract: An engine control system for an internal combustion engine is equipped with dual air-fuel ratio feedback control systems for feedback controlling air-fuel ratios for two groups of injectors. The system includes a common air flow rate sensor, common to both groups, for detecting a common air flow rate introduced into the cylinders and an individual air-fuel ratio sensor for each group of injectors for determining an air-fuel ratio related value for its respective air-fuel ratio feedback control system. A feedback correction value for correction of fuel injection is determined from the air-fuel ratio ralated values for each air-fuel ratio feedback control system. An air flow rate is corrected based on the feedback correction values for correction of fuel injection for the dual air-fuel ratio feedback control systems. Virtual fuel injection rates for the two groups of injectors are then determined from the corrected air flow rate.
Abstract: An inflatable boat comprising a unitary bottom which is comprised of a plurality of parallel, elongated air chambers and has two opposite ends curving upwards respectively, two bulwarks separately attached to the bottom at two opposite sides through a welding joint, two hood-like connecting members connected between the two bulwarks and the bottom at two opposite ends. Parallel grooves are formed in the bottom between the elongated air chambers for guiding waves so as to reduce resisting force during sailing.
Abstract: A contact strip lighting system for vehicular truck bodies, semi-trailer or trailer truck bodies and other installations where a plurality of lights are to be connected to a power source. The contact strip lighting system of this invention includes a laminated contact tape which consists of an inner or bottom layer having adhesive material for attachment to a truck body or other mounting surface and being constructed of insulating material to insulate an encapsulated conductor strip from the mounting surface. An intermediate layer is in the form of a single flat metallic conductor strip insulated between the bottom layer and top layer of the laminated strip. An outer or top layer is constructed of insulating material and is used to insulate the conductor strip and provided with a reflective outer surface to enable approaching vehicle operators to more readily see the truck body when the contact strip is attached thereto.
Abstract: The method consists in affecting a biologically active zone characteristic of pathology treatment with low-intensity EHF electromagnetic radiation--representing continuous spectrum oscillations in a therapeutically effective frequency region at a spectral power density from 10.sup.-6 W/Hz to a value approaching a quantum limit with the duration of a single treatment procedure being within half an hour. The course of treatment includes 1 to 15 procedures. The device for accomplishing the proposed method comprises an electromagnetic EHF oscillation source made up as a noise generator having its output connected with a radiating antenna.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device for the interferometric detection of surface displacements of solids, particularly in test material which is excited with ultrasonic waves, in which an illumination laser 10 radiates the test material surface 2, and a portion of the reflected light, after passing through a differing optical path length, is brought into a state of interference, while the interference is identified by an installed detector 9. In arrangements of this type known to the prior art, a very expensive apparatus and control system is needed to assure that demodulation of the reflected laser light is performed with maximum sensitivity.
Abstract: The invention relates to a holographic display element which includes a reflection hologram and is attached to, for example, an automobile windshield so as to project light rays carrying images of display information onto the display element from a luminous source in the car. When external light such as sunlight coming is diffracted by the reflection hologram there is a possibility that visible light ranging from 570 nm (greenish yellow) to 780 nm (red) is diffracted into a certain range of angles in a horizontal plane and makes a strange impression on persons viewing the windshield from the outside. According to the invention another reflection hologram having different diffraction characteristics is superposed on the first hologram on the outer side in order that diffraction of visible light into the aforementioned range of angles may become inconspicuous.
