Abstract: The present invention addresses the problem of partitioning database relations across a plurality of hosts in a shared-nothing cluster while minimizing communication costs. A new partitioning approach for database relations—join-partitioning—is introduced that focuses on relations and their dependencies to a priori partition the plurality of relations to the plurality of hosts such that each host can locally compute a large class of queries over its partitioned data in isolation at query time, independent of other hosts in the cluster. Such an approach thus overcomes the primary bottleneck, i.e., the network, in deploying database systems over shared-nothing clusters by allowing them to seamlessly scale linearly to tens of thousands of hosts and manage tens or hundreds of terabytes of data.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention enable dynamic repartitioning of data storage in response to one or more triggers. In embodiments, a trigger may be a user-initiated action, a system-generated action, and/or an inference based on storage usage parameters. Applications of the present invention are its use in embodiments of a storage management system comprising a file system manager and a volume manager, where the placement of data into a partition (data storage region) may be specified by matching one or more disk region placement data attributes assigned to data with corresponding disk region attributes. In embodiments, dynamic repartitioning comprises adjustment of the location of the boundary between adjacent disk partitions and, if necessary, rebalancing of the data stored within the partitions by identifying mismatched data and relocating it to the partition with which it is associated.

Abstract: A multi-application smart card may be personalized by receiving a smart card request, preparing an anonymous smart card having multiple user applications that are disabled for uses requiring a link to an identified user and enabled for uses not requiring a link to an identified user, and issuing the anonymous smart card to a user.
Abstract: A Pseudo Random Bit Sequence (PRBS) generator is provided with components to enable operation at very high microwave frequencies with inexpensive components. The PRBS generator initially replaces the D flip-flops of a conventional PRBS generator with delay lines connected in a similar manner. Further, an exclusive OR (EXOR) gate used in a conventional device is replaced in one embodiment by a mixer and amplifier. In another embodiment, the EXOR gate is replaced by a Gilbert Cell. In some embodiments, complementary outputs of an EXOR gate are connected to separate delay lines to reduce components needed for the PRBS generator.
Abstract: In various embodiments of the present invention, a bakable batter mixed using cold process conditions and provided in a pressurized can, can be used to bake a variety of food products. In various embodiments of the present invention, a bakable batter mixed under inert atmosphere conditions and provided in a pressurized can, can be used to bake waffles and pancakes. Carbon dioxide is combined with a water-mixed dry batter recipe under pressure at reduced temperature to give a refrigerator stable batter mix. The carbon dioxide reduces the viscosity of the batter to allow the batter to be dispensed for the life time of the product. The carbon dioxide aerates the food product giving light and fluffy baked products. The carbon dioxide acts as a browning agent while the food product is baking to give a brownish appearance, crunchy texture and attractive taste to the food product.

Abstract: A system and method for creating an editable service metadata asset lifecycle event notification distribution list in a service metadata repository. The system provides the capability for a distribution list owner to create a distribution list of one or more distribution recipients. A sender can send a service metadata asset lifecycle event notification to the distribution list owner, and the members of the distribution list will also receive the service metadata asset lifecycle event notification. The system further provides the capability for the sender to edit the distribution list, prior to sending the message to the distribution list owner and the members of the distribution list.

Abstract: An enhanced programmable automatic level control loop comprising an input for receiving an input RF signal; a level modulator, wherein the level modulator receives the input RF signal and a control signal and wherein the level modulator produces a first signal; a mixer that receives the first signal and mixes it with an LO signal to produce a second signal; a programmable attenuator that receives the second signal and produces an output signal; a level detector that monitors RF power of the output signal and produces a DC voltage proportional to the RF power; and wherein the DC voltage is received at a loop amplifier which produces the control signal.
Abstract: An LED lighting device comprises: a thermally conducting body having an at least one opening that connects with a cavity within the body and a plurality of LEDs mounted in thermal communication with a face of the body and positioned around the opening. One or more passages pass through the body from the cavity to an outer surface of the body and are configured such that in operation air moves through the cavity by thermal convection thereby to provide cooling of the body. Each passage is configured in a direction that extends in a direction at an angle of about 45° to a line that is parallel with the axis of the body toward the outer surface of the body away from the face. The body can be configured such that its outer surface has a form factor resembling an incandescent light bulb or halogen reflector lamp.

Abstract: The heat resistant conveyer belt with side walls according to the invention aims at solving such a prior technical problem that cleats and skirt-boards easily get loose from a base belt. The conveyer belt of the invention comprises a base belt and cleats positioned on the base belt, wherein the conveyer belt is provided with metal frameworks embedded in the cleats and the cleats are fixed on the base belt through fasteners. The cleats and the skirt-boards are respectively embedded with metal frameworks within, so that they can be fixed on the base belt through fasteners, thereby preventing from getting loose from the base belt and increasing the life time of the conveyer belt and reducing its cost.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are cerium doped, garnet phosphors emitting in the yellow region of the spectrum, and having the general formula (Y,A)3(Al,B)5(O,C)12:Ce3+, where A is Tb, Gd, Sm, La, Sr, Ba, Ca, and/or Mg, and substitutes for Y, B is Si, Ge, B, P, and/or Ga, and substitutes for Al, and C is F, Cl, N, and/or S, where C substitutes for O. Relative to a solid-state-reaction method, the instant co-precipitation methods provide a more homogeneous mixing environment to enhance the distribution of the Ce3+ activator in the YAG matrix. Such a uniform distribution has the benefit of an increased emission intensity. The primary particle size of the as-prepared phosphor is about 200 nm, with a narrow distribution.
Abstract: A number of approaches can be taken to improve the routing of client requests to business protocol destinations. In one such approach, a business servlet registers itself as a default servlet such that it receives any request not recognized by the system. In another embodiment, internal APIs can be used to route all messages to a business servlet, which can use internal APIs to redirect the request if the business servlet does not recognize the request. In another embodiment, filters can be used in conjunction with a lookup table containing address information to route requests to the proper destination. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures, and the claims.

Abstract: A multichannel digital pulse width modulator/digital pulse frequency modulator uses a single ring oscillator that is shared by multiple channels. The ring oscillator has taps that can be used for least significant bit (LSB) precision of the generated PWM signal. The ring oscillator also produces a ring clock that is used to synchronize logic in the channels. Since the logic in the channels are synchronized by the ring clock, the channels can each independently produce different frequency PWM (or PFM) signals and still share the same ring oscillator.

Abstract: An audio device management system (ADMS) manages remote audio devices via user selections in video links. The system enhances audio acquisition quality by receiving and processing human suggestions, forming customized two-way audio links according to user requests, and learning audio pickup strategies and camera management strategies from user operations. The ADMS control interface for a remote user provides a multi-window GUI that provides an overview window and selection display window. The ADMS provides users with more flexibility to enhance audio signals according to their needs and makes it more convenient to form customized two-way audio links without requiring users to remember a list of phone numbers. The ADMS also automatically manages available microphones for audio pickup based on microphone sound quality and the system's past experience when users monitor a structured audio environment without explicitly expressing their attentions in the video window.
