  • Patent number: 8198195
Abstract: A plasma processing apparatus in which consumption of expensive krypton and xenon gases is suppressed as much as possible while reducing damage on a workpiece during plasma processing. In plasma processing of a substrate using a rare gas, two or more kinds of different rare gases are employed, and an inexpensive argon gas is used as one rare gas and any one or both of krypton and xenon gases having a larger collision cross-sectional area against electron than that of the argon gas is used as the other gas. Consequently, consumption of expensive krypton and xenon gases is suppressed as much as possible and damage on a workpiece is reduced during plasma processing.

  • Patent number: 8110542
Abstract: This invention relates to methods of expressing eukaryotic proteins in prokaryotic hosts, particularly eukaryotic proteins that require formation of disulfide bridges for biological activity. Various approaches are used including fusion to thioredoxin, cytoplasmic expression of disulfide isomerases, deficiencies in thioredoxin and/or glutathione reductases, deficiencies in proteases, and the like. The method is applicable to express monomeric and dimeric forms of the eukaryotic protein with biological activity such as monomeric and dimeric forms of a disintegrin or a disintegrin domain. Included are the vectors, host cells expressing the proteins, the expressed proteins and methods of using the proteins.

  • Patent number: 8070325
Abstract: A light fixture using LEDs includes a lower skin layer possessing heat transfer properties. A circuit board is affixed to the lower skin layer, and a single LED, or a plurality of LEDs, is electrically connected to the circuit board. The single LED, or plurality of LEDs, when electrically activated, emits light through substantially around a vertical axis. The light fixture also includes a core possessing heat transfer properties that is in thermal contact with the LED and has an interior cavity for the LED. The core is affixed to the lower skin layer, and an upper skin layer, containing a window or windows over the LED or LEDs, is affixed to the core. The LEDs may be white, infrared, ultraviolet, and/or colored and may be mounted on a printed circuit board or individually.

  • Patent number: 7587124
Abstract: An apparatus for recognizing contents of a video made of picture frames includes a splitting unit that splits the picture frames into a plurality of sets of video shots based on cut points indicating a change of screen; a similar-video-shot extracting unit that extracts video shots similar to each of the video shots from among the sets of video shots; a maximum-count-video-shot extracting unit that counts a number of similar video shots for each of the video shots and extracts a maximum count video shot having a maximum count of the similar video shots; and a representative-video-shot determining unit that takes the maximum count video shot as a representative video shot for the video.

  • Patent number: 7507503
Abstract: The present invention relates to non-aqueous electrolytes having electrode stabilizing additives, stabilized electrodes, and electrochemical devices containing the same. Thus the present invention provides electrolytes containing an alkali metal salt, a polar aprotic solvent, and an electrode stabilizing additive. In some embodiments the additives include a substituted or unsubstituted cyclic or spirocyclic hydrocarbon containing at least one oxygen atom and at least one alkenyl or alkynyl group. When used in electrochemical devices with, e.g., lithium manganese oxide spinel electrodes or olivine or carbon-coated olivine electrodes, the new electrolytes provide batteries with improved calendar and cycle life.

  • Patent number: 6697451
Abstract: A method of evaluating a substance scoring system comprises acquiring data from a phantom using an imaging system, moving at least a portion of the phantom during the acquiring step, and generating an actual substance score for the phantom based on the data acquired using the imaging system. The phantom simulates a human organ such as a human heart. The phantom is provided with a motion profile that simulates a motion profile of the human organ.

  • Patent number: 5890142
Abstract: A monitoring apparatus for monitoring an operating condition of a system includes a predicting section which generates a data vector whose parameter is determined by a timeseries data of the system and which obtains a prediction value of the timeseries data of a predetermined time future by means of the chaotic inference based on a behavior of attractor which is generated in a reconstruction space by an embedding operation of the data vector. A monitoring section compares the detected value and the prediction value of the timeseries data and decides the condition of the observed system according to the compared result. Therefore, it becomes possible to appropriately and quickly judge as to whether the observed system is in an abnormal condition or not.
