  • Patent number: 8335166
Abstract: Machine-readable media, methods, apparatus and system for determining a route metric are described. In some embodiments, a characteristic of a packet to be sent from a node to another node is analyzed. The characteristic of the packet may indicate at least one of a group consisting whether the packet is transmission quality sensitive and whether the packet is transmission throughput sensitive. Then, a weight relationship between a packet loss rate and a data rate may be determined, in which the weight relationship may vary with the characteristic of the packet. A route metric for a route from the node to the another node may be determined based upon the packet loss rate, the data rate and the weight relationship.

  • Patent number: 8311503
Abstract: Embodiments and methods and means for filtering radio frequencies (RF) via coaxial cables with a computer system are provided. Such embodiments generally include modifying an RF coaxial cables communicatively coupling an antenna to a wireless radio module within a mobile computing device allow an RF signal within certain frequency band(s) to pass with minimal attenuation while other frequencies, the RF signal is either reflected or attenuated. Modifying the RF coaxial cable entails inserting sections of varied impedance into the uniform impedance of the RF coaxial cable by altering the mechanical structure of the RF coaxial cable.

  • Patent number: 8288233
Abstract: Methods of forming a microelectronic structure are described. Embodiments of those methods may include providing a gate electrode comprising a top surface and first and second laterally opposite sidewalls, wherein a hard mask is disposed on the top surface, a source drain region disposed on opposite sides of the gate electrode, and a spacer disposed on the first and second laterally opposed sidewalls of the gate electrode, forming a silicon germanium layer on exposed portions of the top surface and the first and second laterally opposite sidewalls of the source drain region and then oxidizing a portion of the silicon germanium layer, wherein a germanium portion of the silicon germanium layer is forced down into the source drain region to convert a silicon portion of the source drain region into a silicon germanium portion of the source drain region.

  • Patent number: 8208877
Abstract: A digital modulator for a portable handset using 8PSK or EDGE modulation with a direct launch transmitter is used to controllably adjust the transmit power of the portable handset. The digital modulator includes a controller coupled between a memory and an accumulator. The controller is responsive to an indication that the transmit power should be transitioned. The controller temporarily alters the data transferred from the memory to the accumulator during transitions of the transmit power level.

  • Patent number: 8199723
Abstract: An access point in a wireless network communicates with multiple mobile stations simultaneously using spatial-division multiple access. The access point transmits to the mobile stations frames that end at different times within a predefined window of time. When the predefined window in time is a short interframe space (SIFS) in an IEEE 802.11 compatible network, the access point will be done transmitting the frames in time to receive acknowledgements from the multiple mobile stations.

  • Patent number: 8144579
Abstract: Packets are duplicated, delayed, and spread in time as a form of forward error correction. If a client device receives duplicate packets, they can be discarded. If one of the duplicate packets is lost, then the duplication provides forward error correction with no change to the device that receives the packet.

  • Patent number: 8121571
Abstract: A transceiver device that performs an intercept point calibration using signal interferers is described. The signal interferers include at least self-generated signal interferers or opportunistic signal interferers in surrounding areas. Due to non-linearity in the transceiver device, intermodulation distortion (IMD) signal components are generated. Filtering of the IMD signal components is performed to allow low-frequency components, such as a second order intermodulation (IM2) to pass through. A dynamic minimization algorithm is performed to minimize distortion effects of the low-frequency components.
