  • Patent number: 8337213
Abstract: A toothbrushing monitoring device for a user includes a sensor coupled with the toothbrush for measuring toothbrushing patterns, a recording device coupled with the sensor, and a comparator. The recording device records data relating to the user's preferred toothbrushing patterns in a first mode, which is used to establish toothbrushing pattern reference data. The comparator compares toothbrushing patterns measured by the sensor and the toothbrushing pattern reference data, which may be output to an output device. In one example, the sensor consists of only an accelerometer.

  • Patent number: 8292937
Abstract: A therapeutic pack provides effective therapeutic heating or cooling to an area of a body. The therapeutic pack comprises a fabric bag, such as taffeta or a spandex material, and a plurality of therapeutic modules within the bag. In one example, the bag is tubular. In another example, the bag including structurally restrict free movement of the plurality of the therapeutic modules from one section of the bag to another section of the bag. However, the therapeutic modules may be capable of freely moving within the bag relative to one another. The therapeutic modules may include a material that repeatedly provides a prolonged cooling or heating, such as a phase change material, within a durable, impermeable shell, such as a polyethylene shell.

  • Patent number: 8197165
Abstract: A fastening device for fastening a movable element to a structure includes a support member and at least one belt retractor having a retractable belt and a fitting. The belt retractor may be fastened to a support member. The belt retractor is arranged in such a way that, if the fitting couples the structure and the movable element, the retractor prevents unrolling of the belt by more than a predefinable range if an external force, such as sudden mid-air turbulence acts on the movable element. Thus, the movable element is secured.

  • Patent number: 8167686
Abstract: A polisher has an offset axis and a friction cam useful in a method of polishing that comprises a more random, elongated polishing pattern than known orbital polishers and is capable of portable use using a 9 volt battery. The method is capable of using lower contact pressures between fiber ends and a polishing surface and higher rates of rotation of the drive mechanism, reducing the polishing time for preparing fiber ends for applications. The polishing pattern changes when pressure is applied between a fiber end and the polishing surface. The fiber end provides one intermittent axis of rotation and the friction cam provides another intermittent axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 8156628
Abstract: A holding device for holding a structural component for aircraft to a further structural component; may be coupled to one of the components and is moved from a holding mode, where the first component is held to the second component by the holding device, to a release mode using a magnetic force. Furthermore, a method for deinstalling two components is disclosed, where carrying out deinstallation merely requires pressing a first component against a second component, and placing a magnetic key on or over one of the components in the region of the holding device, where at least some method-related steps may take place at substantially the same time.

  • Patent number: 8146222
Abstract: A device and method for joining and tacking several individual components independently of shape and/or size to form inherently rigid, transportable sections for transportation vehicles, such as an aircraft is disclosed. According to one embodiment of the invention, the individual components may be spatially positioned relative to each other independently of shape and/or size. The spatial positions of the individual components may be determined by a measuring device, such as a laser measuring device, and varied via several positioning devices until a preset spatial position of the individual components has been reached in which the individual component are tacked together to form a section. In another embodiment, the positioning devices may be designed as base positioners, a first lateral positioner, a second lateral positioner, an upper positioner as well as an inner positioner.

  • Patent number: 8128334
Abstract: A support assembly provides for a method of mobilization that does not require removal of shelving and restocking of items on gondolas and warehouse pallet racking, even if the gondola or pallet racking is too wide for prior art mobilization methods. The support assembly comprises a pair of tubular members capable of engaging fork-like extensions of a hand truck or the like. The hand truck may have caster wheels for mobilization and may have a lifting mechanism for raising and lowering the support assembly by the fork-like extensions, when tongues extending from the tubular members are aligned and matingly engaged at a middle support and outer supports of the gondola. By using a plurality of such lift assemblies engaged along the length of the gondola or gondola run, a row of gondolas may be lifted and mobilized without removing shelving and restocking items on the shelves, even if the gondola is wide and the items stocked on the shelves of the gondola add substantial weight to the gondola.

  • Patent number: 8125627
Abstract: A spectroscopy system including first and second lasers. The first laser is triggered to induce a plasma, such as on a surface of a target at a stand-off distance from the target. The second laser stimulates amplified emissions from the plasma detected by one or more spectroscopes. The gain induced by the second laser detects traces of explosives and other substances on surfaces at stand-off distances. The spectroscopy systems use the same telescopic optics to collect emissions from the detection surface and activated at or just before the peak emission intensity useful for detecting element signatures and intensity ratios from the trace elements in the plasma.

  • Patent number: 8091837
Abstract: An aerodynamic body with a plurality of nozzles for throttling a fluid flow to be removed by suction through the nozzles in a self-regulated fashion is disclosed. The aerodynamic body according to one example, includes a plurality of throttling nozzles with a throttle section that is defined by an inlet and an outlet. In one example, the interior wall of the throttle section may be designed such that an effective flow cross section is reduced in a self-regulated fashion due to the creation of turbulences on the interior wall of the throttle section as the pressure differential between the inlet and the outlet of the throttle section increases.

  • Patent number: 8079185
Abstract: A window element has a cover pane which is substantially flush with an outer skin of an aircraft or other transport, achieving a fluid-dynamically favorable, substantially unbulged exterior surface. As a result of the presence of an additional back-ventilated cover pane arranged in front of the actual outer pane of the window element, a fluid-dynamically favorable integration of the window element into the outer skin of an aircraft fuselage airframe is achieved. Any deformation, such as any buckling or bulging of the outer pane of the window element, as a result of a difference in pressure between the interior of the aircraft fuselage airframe and the exterior space at cruising altitudes, has no fluid-dynamically disadvantageous effect. The outer pane is covered by the cover pane which remains substantially undeformed with respect to the outer skin of the aircraft fuselage airframe, for example. Any deformation of the cover pane is largely eliminated by back-ventilation.
