  • Patent number: 8055849
Abstract: Reducing cache pollution of a software controlled cache is provided. A request is received to prefetch data into the software controlled cache. A first designator is set for a first cache access to a first value. If there is the second cache access to prefetch, a determination is made as to whether data associated with the second cache access exists in the software controlled cache. If the data is in the software controlled cache, a determination is made as to whether a second value of a second designator is greater than the first value of the first cache access. If the second value fails to be greater than the first value, the position of the first cache access and the second cache access in a cache line is swapped. The first value is decremented by a predetermined amount and the second value is replaced to equal the first value.

  • Patent number: 8027825
Abstract: A design structure is embodied in a machine readable medium for designing, manufacturing, or testing integrated circuitry. The design structure includes a general purpose computational resource for performing general purpose operations of a system. A special purpose computational resource is coupled to the general purpose computational resource. The special purpose computational resource is for: storing test patterns, a description of the integrated circuitry, and a description of hardware for testing the integrated circuitry; and executing software for simulating an operation of the described hardware's testing of the described integrated circuitry in response to the test patterns.

  • Patent number: 7979732
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product are provided for achieving timing closure in a clocked logic circuit. For each local clock buffer in a set of local clock buffers, a logic synthesis tool determines a clock control signal input from a set of clock control signal inputs that will drive a clock control signal to the local clock buffer at a target frequency such that a first timing constraint may be met. The operation performed by the logic synthesis tool forms a determined clock control signal input. Responsive to the logic synthesis tool determining the determined clock control signal input, the logic synthesis tool couples the local clock buffer to the determined clock control signal input that drives the clock control signal to the local clock buffer at the target frequency to achieve timing closure in the clocked logic circuit.

  • Patent number: 7958182
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for performing collective operations. In hardware of a parent processor in a first processor book, a number of other processors are determined in a same or different processor book of the data processing system that is needed to execute the collective operation, thereby establishing a plurality of processors comprising the parent processor and the other processors. In hardware of the parent processor, the plurality of processors are logically arranged as a plurality of nodes in a hierarchical structure. The collective operation is transmitted to the plurality of processors based on the hierarchical structure. In hardware of the parent processor, results are received from the execution of the collective operation from the other processors, a final result is generated of the collective operation based on the received results, and the final result is output.

  • Patent number: 7941680
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product are provided for distributing net power accurately. A workload is simulated operating on an integrated circuit. Net switching activity is determined for a set of nets and a set of subnets in the integrated circuit. Net switching data is generated based on the net switching activity. A net power value is calculated for each individual net and each individual subnet using the net switching data and a net capacitance for each individual net or subnet. Each calculated net power value is assigned to one of a set of source devices that drives the individual net or subnet, wherein the net power is distributed accurately. A net power assignment list is generated based on the assigning of each net power value to one of the set of source devices that drives the individual net or subnet.

  • Patent number: 7917318
Abstract: A design structure for a circuit for measuring the absolute duty cycle of a signal anywhere on an integrated circuit device is provided. The circuit has a plurality of substantially identical pulse shaper elements, each of which expand the pulse of an input signal whose duty cycle is to be measured by a same amount. The outputs of the pulse shaper elements may be coupled to substantially identical divider circuits whose outputs are coupled to a multiplexer that selects two inputs for output to a set of master/slave configured flip-flops, one input serving as a clock and the other as data to the flip-flops. The flip-flops sample the divider outputs selected by the multiplexer to detect if the dividers have failed or not. The outputs of the flip-flops are provided to an XOR gate which outputs a duty cycle signal indicative of the duty cycle of the input signal.

  • Patent number: 7912844
Abstract: A system for navigating relationships between beans using filters and container managed relationships is provided. With the system, filters are specified in the relationship definition of a deployment descriptor of a bean. The filters generate additional predicates to the WHERE clauses in SQL SELECT statements generated based on the contents of the deployment descriptor. Moreover, these filters may be defined such that method parameters may be passed into the resulting deployed code to thereby make them more flexible. Therefore, with the system, rather than defining filters programmatically in methods of a bean's implementation class, filters are defined declaratively in the deployment descriptor of the bean. Since these filters are specified in the deployment descriptor of the bean, they are accessible to clients of the bean through the local interface.

  • Patent number: 7890665
Abstract: A system and method for migrating domains from one physical data processing system to another are provided. With the system and method, domains may be assigned direct access to physical I/O devices but in the case of migration, the I/O devices may be converted to virtual I/O devices without service interruption. At this point, the domain may be migrated without limitation. Upon completion of the migration process, the domain may be converted back to using direct physical access, if available in the new data processing system to which the domain is migrated. Alternatively, the virtualized access to the I/O devices may continue to be used until the domain is migrated back to the original data processing system. Once migration back to the original data processing system is completed, the access may be converted back to direct access with the original physical I/O devices.

  • Patent number: 7769891
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system are provided for selecting, from a plurality of routes through the data processing system, a direct route for transmitting data. Data that includes address information is received at a first processor that is to be transmitted to a destination processor. Using routing table data structures, direct route entries are identified that correspond to direct routes for transmitting data. An accessed priority table data structure comprises a priority entry for each entry in the routing table data structures. The priority entry specifies a priority of a corresponding entry in the routing table data structures. A direct route entry is selected that corresponds to a direct route from the routing table data structures, based on specified priorities. Then the data is transmitted from the first processor to the destination processor using a path corresponding to the selected direct route entry.

  • Patent number: 7530068
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for efficiently managing limited resources is a given computer system. The system utilizes a token manager that assigns tokens to groups of associated requestors. The tokens are then utilized by the requesters to occupy the given resource. The allocation of these tokens, thus, prevents such problems as denial of service due to a lack of available resources.
