  • Patent number: 6145292
Abstract: A round baler for forming crop material into cylindrical bales. The baler has a main frame, a pair of side walls, a crop pickup mounted on the main frame, and a tailgate pivotally connected to the main frame. The tailgate is operative between a closed position during which a bale is being formed in an expandable chamber, and an open position during which a formed bale is being discharged from the chamber. A sledge assembly, pivotally mounted on the main frame for movement between a bale starting position and a full bale position, has crop engaging transverse rollers for urging the crop material along a spiral path in the chamber for starting and forming a bale. An apron is supported along a continuous path on the main frame and tailgate by a plurality of rotatable guide members. The path has an inner course that cooperates with the sledge rolls on the sledge assembly to define moveable walls of the chamber. A drive roll moves the apron along the continuous path.

  • Patent number: 6144910
Abstract: In the field of agricultural tractor and implement combinations, there have been numerous attempts at improving the efficiency of isolated sub-systems such as the engine, the implement control and the transmission. Such sub-systems have individually successfully been automated, but previous attempts to automate the entire control of a tractor during eg. plowing operations have previously failed. Accordingly, a control apparatus has been provided for a tractor/implement combination to include a control apparatus comprising a plurality of microprocessors. The microprocessors are arranged in a hierarchical control strategy that includes a steady state reference model of various performance parameters of the tractor/implement combination.

  • Patent number: 6131686
Abstract: A transmission is described for a motor vehicle having selectable four-wheel drive. The transmission includes a coupling for selectively applying torque to the front wheels of the vehicle to switch between two-wheel drive and four-wheels drive in dependence upon slipping of the driven wheels. The coupling includes a drive member rotatable with the rear wheels, a driven member rotatable with the front wheels, the drive and driven members being movable axially relative to one another. The drive and driven member have teeth which mesh with one another in a first relative axial position of the drive and driven members to transmit torque from the drive to the driven member, but which are disengaged from one another in a second relative axial position of the drive and driven members to disconnect the drive to the front wheels.

  • Patent number: 6101797
Abstract: Method for processing plant material in which a first rotatable crushing roller with an outer generally cylindrical surface cooperates with a second adjacent rotatable crushing roller also having an outer generally cylindrical surface. The rollers, mounted with their surfaces positioned in close proximity to each other, rotate in opposite directions to receive and crush plant material. A rotatable impact rotor having a plurality of outwardly extending projections is mounted rearwardly of the crushing rollers for impacting plant material that has passed between the rollers to macerate the plant material that has been previously crushed by the rollers. The crushed and macerated plant material is diverted and again impacted one or more times by the outwardly extending projections of the impact rotor.

  • Patent number: 6073431
Abstract: The invention relates to an improvement to the header of an agricultural self-propelled windrower. The invention has a conditioner assembly and mower assembly that can be separated and removed. Hook and pin combination and a conditioner mounting bolt attach the conditioner assembly. A free link and bell crank allow the flotation springs to remain attached with the header is removed. A header top link can be attached to a bracket on either the conditioner or mower assemblies to assist in moving the header. There is a header lift manifold that moves a restricted flow control valve by a switch-actuated solenoid. When the solenoid is activated, the valve moves and forces hydraulic fluid through an orifice. This allows the header limited movement.

  • Patent number: 6056639
Abstract: An agricultural harvesting machine having a threshing and separating mechanism for threshing and separating crop material; and cleaning mechanism for cleaning the threshed and separated crop material. The cleaning mechanism comprising: a grain pan for receiving threshed and separated crop material and transporting the latter rearwardly; and an upper and lower sieves installed behind said grain pan and operable to receive the material from said grain pan and move it through and along. At least one portion of said grain pan is inclined in a sideways direction for sideways movement of said threshed and separated crop material while it is being transported rearwardly towards said sieve.
