Abstract: A force detecting load cell, which is designed to be a direct replacement for existing anchor pins, is used as the load-bearing member and measuring and diagnostic device in brake systems. The working dimensions of the cell and the parts replaced are the same, except that the cell has short zones of decreased diameter so that strains are concentrated in these zones. Electrical strain gages are positioned within these zones with connections to exterior measuring and monitoring instrumentation. The arrangement and orientation of the gages in the concentrating zones permit measurement of the applied brake loads both as to magnitude and direction.

Abstract: A roll forming machine is used for forming material, typically metal strip into various shapes. The machines comprise pairs of forming rolls which are spaced apart along an axis. The profile of the roll pairs progressively change along the axis, so that respective pairs of rolls effect different degrees of folding to material passing between them. As a result, the machine is capable of effecting progressive folding of material fed between the pairs of rolls along this axis. In the present machines, versatility of the machines is improved by using forming rolls each comprising a plurality of roll section elements. The roll section elements are mounted so as to be independently freely revolvable about the axis of the roll and additionally they may be driven so that they are capable of assisting both in folding/forming roll material and in transmitting drive thereto.

Abstract: A system for establishing a safe environment for removing dangerous, hazardous fibrous materials in situ over a substrate, comprises a flexible film wrap and fluid distribution system for providing a continuous misting of fluid to initially wet the materials and then continuing the misting of fluid intermittently to achieve saturation of the materials to the substrate. Thereafter, the materials are cured to substantially eliminate the generation of airborne fibers during removal of the materials.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for joining continuously moving materials which must be in registry by monitoring and comparing signals and making adjustments in the feed of the materials. The registry means includes a data cam in the form of a star wheel, with lobes and valleys corresponding to areas on a scrolled cylinder engaging discreet segments of one of the materials.

Abstract: A water by-passing, submersible, flame retardent vent plug is adapted for use in storage batteries of the type containing liquid electrolyte. The plug has inlet and outlet slots and a hollow portion providing a gas communication path. A porous flame arrester is positioned in the path. A circular raised seat is positioned in the path between the flame arrester and the outlet slots to allow water from the battery's exterior which enters the outlet slots, to exit the vent plug without entering the battery.

Abstract: A set is provided which includes a tag, removably attached to an article of clothing, having a swatch of the material from which the clothing was made and an indication of the type of clothing and the year in which it was purchased; and an index box for arranging tags in accordance with the type of clothing purchased. Also provided is a tag holder for subsequent shopping. The method of using these by removing the tags from the clothing, placing them in the index box, and subsequently removing them and transporting them for comparision shopping purposes is disclosed.
