    Abstract: A slammer for use in the game generally called Milk Caps or Pogs, originally played with milk bottle caps. The slammer is basically a disk shaped member having at least one continuous, unapertured, metal disk. The disk or disks are encapsulated in a synthetic resin housing. A first cylindrical housing portion is formed around the metal disk or disks by injection molding of a tough synthetic resin, with a disk surface at one face of the housing. A second housing portion is formed by injection molding of a second synthetic resin over the exposed disk assembly surface. The second resin preferably is softer than the first resin and bears finger tip shaped depressions to provide an optimum gripping surface for holding and throwing the slammer during game play.

    Abstract: An intake and exhaust system for use with internal combustion engines that uses two intake valves and one exhaust valve for each engine cylinder. The three valves are preferably round and spaced around the cylinder centerline in the cylinder head. The two intake valves may be spaced closer to the exhaust valve than to each other. The two intake valves may, alternatively, be spaced closer to each other than to the exhaust valve and two spark plugs may be provided, each lying between an intake valve and the exhaust valve. For best results, the two intake valves have substantially equal diameters, with the diameter of the exhaust valve having a ratio to the diameter of an intake valve of from about 1:1 to about 1:1.2. The head has three substantially hemispheric depressions each housing one of said valves. Squish areas are preferably provided between each pair of adjacent valves around the combustion chamber periphery.

    Abstract: A generally columnar chamber for uniformly mixing a gas, such as ozone, into a liquid, such as water. The mixing chamber is assembled from a series of round tray sections each having an outer and an inner helical conduit sections and a central vertical tube section. The trays are stacked and secured together to form a continuous outer helix, inner helix and central column. A port at the bottom of the column directs liquid into the outer helical conduit spiraling up to the top of the column where a crossover port directs the liquid into the inner helical conduit downwardly to a cylindrical sump. The outlet of the inner helix into the sump is angled so as to create a vortex in the sump, forcing heavy particles outwardly to the sump wall. Heavy particles are allowed to migrate down the wall to a collection region at the bottom of the sump for later removal.

    Abstract: A system for thoroughly spraying buildings with a pesticide. A truck carries a tank of liquid pesticide, a hose on a reel and a pump for pumping pesticide into the hose. A cart including a tube having a first end for connection to the hose and a second end carrying one or more spray heads is placed at the far end of a building with the hose extending the length of the building and out a door to the truck. The tube is mounted on at least two wheels, with a sled member supporting the end of the tube adjacent to the hose connection. The spray heads produce a pattern in approximately a vertical plane perpendicular to the length of the tube and hose. As the hose is reeled up, the cart is pulled across the floor of the building, with the fan-like spray pattern fully treating the building interior.

    Abstract: An improved method of anodizing aluminum which produces an oxide surface receptive to the formation of strong and durable bonds with epoxy adhesives and coatings with underlying bulk properties providing dissimilar metal separation and basic corrosion protection. The invention provides a two step electrolytic process which includes, firstly, anodizing the aluminum with a phosphoric acid solution and then, secondly, further anodizing the aluminum with a sulfuric and boric acid solution. A product is provided that has a final coating having two anodized regions. The first outer region produced by the phosphoric acid solution is about 3000 angstroms thick and is characterized by open pores which is particularly well suited for the establishment of stable, strong and durable bonds with epoxy primers and adhesives. The second base region produced by the sulfuric/boric acid solution provides a thick, tough, corrosion resistant region about 15,000 angstroms thick.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting harmonics (multipoles) in high energy particle accelerators using superconducting magnets using corrector rods adjacent to accelerator magnets. In such accelerators, superconducting coils are positioned around a non-magnetic beam tube with the magnetic coils designed to guide particles, such as protons, along the tube. Magnetic field non-uniformites in the form of multipoles (harmonics) will disrupt the beam guidance, causing particles to hit the tube walls and be lost, reducing accelerator efficiency. The negative effects of multipoles (harmonics) in such accelerators can be reduced or eliminated by positioning a selected number of pairs of carefully sized and dimensioned rods of magnetic material such as nickel or iron along the exterior of the beam tube or enclosing helium vessel near the magnet ends. The rods are equally spaced and lie parallel to the beam tube axis.

    Abstract: A combination intake air filter for an internal combustion engine and oil collection system for oil in crankcase breather fumes. An enclosed canister having a tubular side wall and two end walls houses a filter element, typically hollow frustum-shaped. A plurality of entrance openings around the periphery of one end wall admit intake air into the canister on one side of the filter element while a central exit opening in the opposite end wall directs the air to the engine after passing through the filter. The entrance openings are sized to create a predetermined pressure drop across the entrance. An inner wall spaced from the sidewall forms and annular space therebetween. An inlet at the top admits breather fumes into the annulus, with a barrier wall between the inner wall and sidewall forces the fumes to travel around the canister through the annulus to an exit connecting the annulus to the canister interior.

    Abstract: A bingo playing aid for use in playing bingo games involving an unusual game pattern and a method of playing bingo using that playing aid. A stencil has a linear array of at least two bingo card patterns corresponding to the spacing of bingo patterns on a playing sheet in either rows or columns. Each of the card patterns on the stencil has perforations surrounding each number location, with the outermost row in each pattern in the direction of the linear array preferably having greater lengths. Selected perforated areas are removed to leave a pattern of openings corresponding to the game pattern to be played. The stencil is placed over the playing sheet and each number called that appears in a stencil opening is marked. When all numbers showing on a card have been marked, the player wins. Preferably, a thin layer of pressure sensitive adhesive is placed on the playing sheet or the back of the stencil between card patterns to hold the stencil in place when placed on the playing sheet.

    Abstract: An apparatus for fitting golf club length and head-to-shaft angle to an individual person. The fitting club shaft is in two telescoping portions. A conventional grip is provided at the end of the first portion and the end of the second portion is pivotally connected to a conventional club head. A generally "L"shaped electrically insulating panel has one leg extending into the second shaft portion and the other leg extending into a cavity in the head. A first series of longitudinally spaced electrical contacts on the first end are adapted to be contacted by a connection contact on the movable first shaft portion to send an electrical signal indicating club length. A second series of spaced electrical contacts are radially arranged on the second leg about the shaft pivot point. The second series of contacts is adapted to be contacted by a second connection contact to send an electrical signal indicating head-to-shaft angle. A person grasps the fitting club grip and assumes a normal golf stance.

    Abstract: A vortex system for separating particles of varied size and density from a liquid stream. A particle bearing liquid is introduced tangentially into one end of an elongated cylindrical chamber to form a rotating liquid vortex therein. An impeller at one end of the chamber reinforces the vortex flow. Either a series of tangentially oriented jets introducing a gas or a gas saturated liquid through the chamber wall or a rotating central chamber section further increases the vortex rotational flow. The vortex produces a heavy particle rich outer region, a gas and light particle rich axial region and a cleaned liquid annular region therebetween. The cleaned liquid flows out of the chamber through an outlet at the chamber end opposite end at which the particle bearing liquid is introduced. The heavy particles in the outer region and the gas and light particles in the axial region are each removed through an outlet. A variety of component orientations and auxiliary devices may be used to optimize system operation.

    Abstract: A system for counting particles entrained in a flowing fluid and for automatically calibrating the counting system is disclosed. A conduct through which a fluid carrying particles flows has a transparent section. A narrow light beam, such as a laser light beam, is passed through the transparent section to a detector, such as a photodiode, that detects light scattered by the particles. The scattering pattern is useful in counting the flowing particles and measuring other particle characteristics, such as size. The measurement system can be calibrated by passing the light beam through a transparent slide bearing a standard particle array to a detector, either the measurement detector or a second detector. The slide is moved at the same rate as the fluid flows, so that the scattering produced by the standard array is useful in calibrating the measurement of the flowing particles in a conventional manner.

    Abstract: A holder for supporting magnetic cylindrical tools of varying diameter such as wrench sockets, drill bits, etc. in order. A member having a series of recesses having shapes corresponding to the tools to be held is backed by an elongated magnet. In one embodiment, the member is a non-magnetic material and the magnet is made up of a plurality of transverse magnetic regions, having alternately north and south poles on the surface toward the recesses, with the pole lines between adjacent north and south regions aligned with the centerline of the recesses. Preferably, a narrow non-magnetized region separates each pair of adjacent north and south pole regions. In a second embodiment, the member is formed from a magnetic a U-shaped sheet with the recesses formed in opposed sidewalls. The magnet is held between the sidewalls below the recesses and has two longitudinally arranged north and south poses at the surface toward the recesses, with the pole line running longitudinally along the center of the magnet.

    Abstract: A linear actuated sealant applicator pump for pumping a sealant into an aperture prior to installation of a fastener in that aperture. An air driven linear actuator translates a cam plate carrying a sealant applicator head from a first position in a first direction spaced from and slightly out of vertical alignment with the aperture to which sealant is to be applied. An adjustable stop limits the translation of the cam plate and injector pump. The actuator then continues in the first direction causing the cam plate to follow a cam slot translating the sealant applicator head in a second direction normal to the first direction toward and in vertical alignment with the aperture with the head engaging the edges of the aperture. The engagement of the head with the edges of the aperture prevents further translation of the sealant applicator head into the aperture.

A second tube is in contact with the liquid in each vessel for carrying a liquid at a temperature below the boiling temperature of the liquid. An outlet on each vessel directs heated working liquid under pressure from each vessel to a chamber for vaporizing the liquid and directing the resulting high pressure vapor to a work producing station, such as s scroll compressor operated in reverse as an expander. An inlet tube conveys low pressure vapor from the work producing station back to the vessels.

Each framework carries a carriage on which plural drilling assemblies are mounted. The positions of the drilling assemblies relative to each other is adjustable. The carriage is vertically moveable to allow the drilling assemblies to simultaneously drill plural holes. A dispensing assembly on the framework includes an adjustable metering device for dispensing a selected quantity of fertilizer into each hole.
