  • Patent number: 4506263
Abstract: A system for storing and transmitting pulse count information is disclosed wherein electrical pulses produced by logging tools, such as thermal neutron, are counted and stored downhole to remove the effect of lengthly transmission lines. In a further embodiment a coded multiplexed signal is transmitted uphole indicating the tool from which the transmitted data was received and the total count for a predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 4486865
Abstract: Pressure and velocity detectors produce outputs which are combined to substantially cancel ghost reflections. The pressure detector produces a positive output in response to upwardly travelling compressional waves and a negative output in response to downwardly travelling rarefaction waves. The velocity detector for this is a positive output in response to upwardly travelling compressional waves and a positive output in response to downwardly travelling rarefaction waves. These outputs are filtered so that the impulse response of the rarefaction waves cancels. The filtered outputs are combined to produce an output in which the ghost reflection is substantially suppressed.

  • Patent number: 4462094
Abstract: A geophone is hung from a ball bearing in a pendular fashion so that it is free to swing in any direction. Because it is weighted, it will assume the correct positioning for operation. A clamp, carried with the pendular geophone in a seismometer designed for use on the ocean floor, fixes the geophone in a rigid position when a solenoid is actuated. After the seismometer is deployed on the sea bottom, it is desired to clamp the geophone into its assumed position. The solenoid is fired upon command causing the ball to be clamped. When the seismometer is recovered the angle of inclination with respect to the vertical it assumed at the time when the geophone was clamped can be determined by measuring the angle formed by the clamped geophone and a surface known to be vertical when the seismometer rests on a flat, horizontal surface.

  • Patent number: 4446537
Abstract: In an on-bottom seismometer, the electronic system for operating the release mechanism includes a plurality of independent power sources. A plurality of release condition sensors each produce a release output upon the occurrence of a condition in which the unit is to be recovered at the water's surface. Logic circuitry responds to the release condition sensors for producing a relase signal which is applied to driving circuits for primary and secondary release devices. Switching means automatically connect the logic circuitry and the driving circuitry to an operable one of the power sources.

  • Patent number: 4397007
Abstract: A real-time monitor which displays analog representations of digital seismic data having been recorded on magnetic tape such that adjacent seismic traces are partially overlapped, whereby the appearance of an error is enhanced and is disclosed. The monitor display is controlled by a computer which may be of a type similar to computers used in the seismic data storage system for other purposes so that it may serve as a back-up computer. This system is implemented by incorporating into magnetic tape data storage drives read-after-write circuitry so that the data put on the tape can be read off the tape immediately thereafter and used to control the monitor means. In this way, the monitor is in fact operating in real-time and operates on precisely that data which in on the tape; thus any errors displayed on the real-time monitor include any errors made in the actual recordation of the data onto magnetic tape.

  • Patent number: 4389709
Abstract: A system is described for indicating the appropriate time to perform preventive maintenance operations upon a machine tool. The system includes a signal generator which is to be connected to the machine tool to generate signals whenever the tool is in operation. These signals are integrated and a threshold sensitive detector responsive to the output of the integrator produces a control signal. The control signal is then applied to a audio/visual indicating means to notify operators of the advent of a particular preventive maintenance operation to be performed upon the machine tool.

  • Patent number: 4383220
Abstract: A method and system are described for determining the dip of subsurface formations penetrated by a borehole. The well is logged using a borehole tool that has at least three antennas spaced approximately equally around the borehole tool for transmitting electromagnetic energy into the earth and receiving electromagnetic energy therefrom. Each antenna array contains a single transmitting antenna and a single receiving antenna. Individual signals are generated representative of the characteristics of the electromagnetic energy detected by each individual receiving antenna. These signals are then compared one to the other to determine the dip of the subsurface formations penetrated by the borehole.

  • Patent number: 4323990
Abstract: A seismic data generation and collection system is described for use in a exploration vessel for determining the subsea structure of the earth. A plurality of acoustic energy sources are towed behind the boat and acoustic waves are emitted therefrom by conventional means. The reflection at the subsea interfaces of the acoustic waves are picked up by the energy detectors which produce analog signals. These analog signals are then converted to digital data; multiple computers are used to reformat the data into a desired format. A real time monitor computer and monitor plotter may also be provided to assist the operator in evaluation of the operation of the system. The desired record format includes header information relating to the parameters under which the seismic shot was made, which may be written directly onto the magnetic tape containing the seismic data.
