  • Patent number: 4096038
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the heat treatment of volatile containing materials in a rotary hearth type furnace wherein the flue gases emanating from the calciner are employed to create either a positive or negative pressure within the calciner hearth as well as the soaking pit area of the said calciner.

  • Patent number: 4043080
Abstract: An apparatus for effecting the combined simultaneous rotating and reciprocating movement of a die reconditioning tool mounted in a chuck which is secured to a rotating and reciprocating spindle. The reconditioning tool may be employed either in the rough grinding of a used die or may be employed to polish a die which may or may not have been previously subjected to a rough grinding operation. The improvement comprising the employment of a hub mounted for rotation with the main shaft of a lathe-type apparatus with the hub having a slot formed therein and a plate adjustably mounted in the said slot with a suitable linkage mechanism extending between the said plate and the reciprocating parts of the apparatus on which is mounted the said spindle whereby the length of reciprocating travel of the spindle and reconditioning tool mounted thereon may be varied by adjusting the plate in the slot formed in the aforesaid hub.

  • Patent number: 4034735
Abstract: A system for collecting solar energy consists of a target for absorbing solar radiation positioned above a plurality of independently positionable reflectors, each reflector including a base, a concave circular reflecting surface, and means responsive to incident solar radiation for positioning the reflector with respect to the target and the sun such that solar radiation incident upon the reflectors will be directed toward the target. The system can also include means for initiating the positioning of the reflectors only in response to the presence of the sun above a predetermined minimum angle with respect to the horizon.

  • Patent number: 4027985
Abstract: A hermetically sealed container formed of a pliable material and which contains therein a substance capable of being ejected from within the container by application of a pressure force on the walls of the container. A band formed of a suitable material is mounted on the container at the discharge or exit end of the container, the band having a sharpened prong which is normally out of contact with one wall of the container, but which will engage with the wall of the container when pressure is applied on the walls of the container to thus cause container walls to expand and to force one of the walls into engagement with the sharpened prong to thus effect a puncturing of the wall to form an opening through which the contents of the container may be expelled.

  • Patent number: 4008874
Abstract: An attachment for a motorized cart comprising an adjustable bracket which may be mounted on suitable support arms which extend rearwardly of the cart. The bracket is adapted to retain an umbrella or like canopy in adjusted position so as to extend over the occupants of the cart and also over a storage area which is provided rearwardly of the seating area for the occupants of the cart.

  • Patent number: 3998703
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the heat treatment of materials on a traveling hearth mounted on a horizontal plane and rotated on a vertical axis within a substantially air-tight enclosure. The materials on the hearth are deposited thereon in separate and distinct rows and retained in separate rows while undergoing heat treatment within the enclosure. The material in one of said rows is capable of evolving volatiles when the materials are subjected to a heat treatment and the evolved volatiles rise and are dispersed in the upper portion of the enclosure where the same will combine with an oxidant such as air and/or oxygen which is admitted into this portion of the enclosure. The mixture of evolved volatiles and oxidants such as air and/or oxygen will combust in the upper portion of the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 3948617
Abstract: The reduction of emission of sulphur dioxide from fuels containing sulphur components when such fuels are combusted. The reduction of such sulphur dioxide emissions upon the combustion of such sulphur containing fuels is accomplished by the introduction into such fuels an alkali additive which is pressure fed into such fuels at a point closely adjacent the burner structure for the combustion process thus insuring for the intimate mixture of such alkali material with the fuels to be combusted. The alkali material serves to neutralize the sulphur containing impurities which are normally caused to exit through a conventional stack exit for the exhaust gases from the burner.
