Abstract: Method for the recovery of high purity Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 from a Na.sub.2 CrO.sub.4 or Na.sub.2 Cr.sub.2 O.sub.7 solution by producing (NH.sub.4).sub.2 CrO.sub.4 by solvent extraction, evaporating the aqueous (NH.sub.4).sub.2 CrO.sub.4 and igniting the resulting solids to provide high purity Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3.

Abstract: The disclosure of this application is directed to silver catalyzed manganese dioxide which is useful as a hydrogen gas absorber. The silver catalyzed manganese dioxide of this invention can be formed into a shaped article of desired configuration, inserted into an electrochemical cell such as a battery, which is subsequently sealed, to absorb hydrogen gas evolved within the cell. Absorption of hydrogen gas by the silver catalyzed manganese dioxide prevents excessive build-up of gas pressure within the sealed cell thus minimizing the possibility of rupture and complete failure of the cell.
Abstract: A plastic bag having a reinforcing flap formed by folding the bag side wall material upon itself at the upper portion of the bag, a cut out portion in the reinforcing flap defining a carrying handle for said bag and a plurality of weld lines on each side of the carrying handle.
Abstract: Solid particles of ammonium decavanadate are recovered from an aqueous ammonium decavanadate solution by atomizing the solution and heating the fine droplets to vaporize the water constituent and form solid particles of ammonium decavanadate which are quickly cooled.

Abstract: Method for the recovery of chrome hydrate or high purity Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 from chromium ores by roasting the ore with Na.sub.2 CO.sub.3 and CaO, water leaching the roasted mass, precipitating aluminum impurities from the leach liquor as Al(OH).sub.3 and contacting the leach liquor with sulfur and NaOH in order to reduce the chromium values in the leach liquor from valence 6 to 3 to provide a chrome hydrate precipitate. The chrome hydrate precipitate is acid repulped to provide a chrome hydrate from which sodium impurities have been removed. The chrome hydrate is dried and the resulting solids are calcined to provide a high purity Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3.

Abstract: A tubular food casing is treated with an admixture of an albumin and a modified liquid smoke to provide a casing that is suitable for imparting smoke flavor and intensified smear resistant smoke color to food products processed therein. Alternatively, a casing is treated first with an albumin and then with a modified liquid smoke. This invention relates to methods of treating a food casing and also relates to the resultant improved treated casing, which is suitable to impart smoke flavor and intensified smear resistant smoke color to food products processed therein. In particular this invention relates to a method of coating a fibrous or non-fibrous regenerated cellulose tubular food casing and the resultant casing, which method encompasses coating the internal surface of the casing with an admixture of an albumin such as egg albumin, and a modified liquid smoke, to provide a casing which is suitable to impart smoke flavor and intensified smear resistant smoke color to food products processed therein.
Abstract: A method of producing a curved sausage casing by treating a sausage casing before curving with caustic solution and neutralizing the casing while in the curved configuration.
Abstract: A tubular food casing is treated with an admixture of an albumin and a Maillard reaction product of an amino acid and a reducing sugar to provide a casing that is suitable to impart a smear resistant brown smoke color coating to food products processed therein. Alternatively, a casing is treated first with an albumin and then with a Maillard reaction product.
Abstract: In a method for producing formed collagen structures from collagen compositions, the structures are dewatered before the final drying step, by being passed through a bath containing water soluble anionic polysaccharides that are naturally occurring or formed by de-esterification of polysaccharide esters.Collagen products containing the polysaccharides of this invention are generally obtained by the extrusion of collagen compositions into tubular structures that may be used as casings in the processing of food products such as sausages, frankfurters, and the like.
