  • Patent number: 4755909
Abstract: A fused disconnect switch is contained within a molded plastic cover pivotally attached to a molded plastic case. The switch contact blade is directly attached to the cover whereby movement of the cover in one direction slidingly connects the switch contact blade between the line and load stabs mounted within the case. Movement of the cover in an opposite direction slidingly disconnects the switch contact blade from the line and load stabs. Elongated slots integrally formed within the cover and the case cooperate to prevent access to the switch components when the switch blade is in its "ON" position. The configuration of the slots allow for locking the switch in either the "ON" or "OFF" position.

  • Patent number: 4750836
Abstract: A first pattern of circular indicia of the same diameter and of equal spacing is superimposed with an overlapping second pattern of circular indicia of the same diameter as the first pattern indicia. The indicia of the second pattern are in progressively larger spacings in mirror image relation to a central reference indicia. Measurement indicia are adjacent to each indicia of the second pattern. Observation of the most closely aligned indicia of the first and second patterns and the measurement indicia corresponding to that most closely aligned indicia gives a quick visual measurement of the magnitude of the misalignment.

  • Patent number: 4751612
Abstract: A speaker having a slotted flange is attached by a robot to printed circuit board mounting posts. The posts are slotted and dimensioned so the post slots are slid into engagement with the flange slots in interlocking arrangement. The posts and flange are dimensioned so that a robot hand can slide the flange between the posts in interference fit such that the relatively rigid posts are torqued apart flexing the board. When the flange and post slots engage, the board flex forces snap the posts and flange in locked engagement.

  • Patent number: 4746075
Abstract: A method and apparatus for precision winding of coils on bobbins. Ideal positions for all portions of wire on the bobbin are predetermined on the basis of a planned winding profile taking into account number of turns, wire size and bobbin dimensions. Then incremental control of traverse, simultaneously with spin of a fly head winder, relative to the bobbin is utilized to put the wire down on the bobbin at the ideal positions independently of the lay of prelaid turns. The control is preferably done through a computer whose memory contains essential data on the winding profile. The computer is programmed to read feedback signals on instantaneous traverse and spin and provide control signals to cause the winder to duplicate the coil winding profile.

  • Patent number: 4745599
Abstract: A random access communication system forms messages to be transmitted into subpackets of fixed duration. A message packet includes two or more subpackets. Each subpacket includes information relating to the source transmitter-receiver and the number of subpackets in the message. The subpackets of the message packet are transmitted contiguously over the transmission path in a contention mode. Some subpackets are successfully received and some are lost due to collisions. After a period of asynchronous contention operation, a predetermined number of subpackets are successfully received, and the system switches to a short-term synchronous, scheduled operating mode. In the scheduled operating mode, those transmitter-receivers which were the sources of message packets including some successful and some unsuccessful subpackets retransmit the data from the unsuccessful subpackets, ordering themselves in accordance with the order of receipt of successful subpackets.

  • Patent number: 4745474
Abstract: A digital television transmitter has a buffer that receives a low resolution low pass filtered signal. A high resolution high pass filtered signal is applied to the buffer only when the buffer can accept it without overflowing. A digital television receiver receives a digital television picture signal and preferably a transmitter buffer occupancy state signal. A low resolution low pass filtered signal is applied to an adder. A high resolution high pass filtered signal is applied to the adder when the buffer state is low and also when it is intermediate and no substantial motion is present. The transmitter and receiver are useful in video teleconferencing.

  • Patent number: 4743803
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for disposing a light source comprising an inner envelope within an outer envelope with both envelopes comprising a general service tungsten-halogen incandescent lamp is disclosed. The mounting arrangement has parameters which are selected in accordance with the ratio between the natural frequency characteristics of the filament of the light source and the mounting arrangement itself. The selected ratios of the natural frequencies of the filament and the mounting arrangement reduce the typically experienced shock vibrations of the general service lamp that are transmitted to the filament and thereby improves the overall life expectancy of the general service incandescent lamp.

  • Patent number: 4741002
Abstract: The root mean square value of sensed current within a protected circuit is calculated. A frequency multiplying circuit produces a pulse stream having a frequency proportional to the square of the amplitude of an analog signal representation of the circuit current. A root mean square value over a prescribed interval is developed from the squared current value.

  • Patent number: 4738504
Abstract: A method is disclosed for making a termination between (a) a fiber optic cable having a centrally positioned optical fiber, a plurality of reinforcement strands positioned about the optical fiber, and a jacket positioned about the reinforcement strands; with (b) an electro-optic component housing having a tubular extension. In accordance with the method of this invention, in the initial step a predetermined length of the outer jacket is removed from the fiber optic cable to expose a length of optical fiber and reinforcement strands. The optical fiber is then inserted into and through a passage in the tubular extension to a point within the component housing and preferably fixed in place. The reinforcement strands are then positioned about the outer diameter surface of the tubular extension so that portions of the outer diameter of the tubular extension are covered with the reinforcement strands and other areas are left exposed.
