Patent number: 4639902Abstract: An intrusion detector is configured to transmit signal(s) of a very short ration and then process the returned signal(s) reflected from various surfaces and objects within the propagation path in a room to be secured. The return signal(s) is a succession of peaks whose return times represent the location of respective objects. As configured, the intrusion detector apparatus includes, inter alia, a microprocessor that stores processed facsimiles of the return signal(s) for an unoccupied room and continually makes comparisons with subsequent returned signal(s). When the returned signal(s) changes, as a result of an unauthorized entry into the room, for example, a visual and/or audible alarm indication is produced.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1985Date of Patent: January 27, 1987Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Robert A. Patent number: 4635182Abstract: An apparatus for and a method of controlling multiple time varying proces by a central control device through a use of an adaptive data acquisition scheme is disclosed. A state estimator is used to extrapolate the current state of each control process as well as an estimate of the uncertainty of each state estimate. The state whose uncertainty is greatest is selected. The selected process is then measured, estimated, and a control variable calculated. Use of this selection criteria allows a single control device to effectively control more time varying processes then if the controls had been determined by a controller using a fixed sampling rate. Statistics for each process are updated with each measurement in order to compensate for the time/varying nature of the processes.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1984Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Kenneth J.
