  • Patent number: 6801985
Abstract: Data transfer between a master node (300) and plural memory nodes (301-308) follows a synchronous fixed latency loop bus (255). Each memory node includes bus interface (311-318) which passes command, write data, write address, and read data and read address to a next memory node in the loop. Each memory node performs a read from its memory at the specified address if a read command is directed to it. Each memory node performs a write to its memory at the specified address if a write command is directed to it. Simultaneously read and write to a single node is prohibited. This configuration provides a fixed latency between the issue of a read command and the return of the read data no matter which memory node is accessed. This configuration prevents collision of returning read data and of incoming write data. This configuration provides fixed loading to each stage regardless of the number of memory nodes. Thus the design of large systems operating at high speeds is simplified.

  • Patent number: 6748521
Abstract: A data processing system is provided with a digital signal processor which has an instruction for saturating multiple fields of a selected set of source operands and storing the separate saturated results in a selected destination register. A first 32-bit operand (600) and a second 32-bit operand (602) are treated as four 16-bit fields and the sixteen bits in each field are saturated separately. Multi-field saturation circuitry is operable to treat a source operand as a number of fields, such that a multi-field saturated (610) result is produced that includes a number of saturated results each corresponding to each field. One instruction is provided which treats an operand pair as having two packed fields, and another instruction is provided that treats the operand pair has having four packed fields. Saturation circuitry is operable to selectively treat a field as either a signed value or an unsigned value.

  • Patent number: 6173368
Abstract: A microprocessor (62) for coupling to an external read/write memory (70) having an addressable storage space for storing data. The microprocessor includes a data storage circuit (76) for storing a portion of the data, where that portion of data comprises non-cacheable data. The microprocessor further includes a class storage circuit (80) for storing a class identifier corresponding to the portion of the non-cacheable data, as well as an input (TERMINATE) for receiving a terminate signal and an input (CLASS) for receiving a class signal. Lastly, the microprocessor includes an indicator (82) for indicating that the portion of the non-cacheable data in the data storage circuit is expired in response to assertions of the terminate signal and the class signal matching the class identifier.
