  • Patent number: 5638731
Abstract: A chop saw comprising a table, pivot member, saw assembly, upper guard, lower guard and lever utilizes the lever to maintain the position of the upper guard and lock the saw assembly in the upper rest position by engaging the lower guard with an extension of the lever. Disengagement of the lever from the lower guard, and pivoting of the saw assembly to the lower engaged position causes the lever to re-engage the lower guard to further open the lower guard and expose the blade.

  • Patent number: 5464184
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting a device, such as a saw blade, on a base (3) to enable the blade to be positioned accurately in either of two distinct positions relative to the base. The apparatus comprises a pivot member (21) for supporting the blade (not shown) pivotally mounted on a fixed member (11). The fixed member (11) includes a pair of abutments (142,144) and the pivot member has at least one asymmetric stop (160) for abutting the abutments (142,144) after rotation of the pivot member (21) relative to the fixed member to define the distinct positions of the blade. These positions are defined generally by the positions of the abutments (142,144) and accurately by the orientation of the or each asymmetric stop (160). The apparatus may further include a device (170) for adjusting accurately one of the distinct positions by a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 5437319
Abstract: A power tool (10) has a working assembly (20) mounted on a first side of a table (16). The table is pivotable about an axis (41 ) with respect to a frame (14) between two working dispositions. A working head (e.g. blade 32) of the assembly (20) is positionable through an aperture in the table so that it can work on workpieces supported above either side of the table. The table is connected to the frame through an intermediate member (46) which is pivoted to the frame. The table has a first wheel (40) fixed thereto and a belt passes around the first wheel and around a second wheel (50) fixed to the frame (14) around the pivot (51 ) of the intermediate member. Pivoting of the intermediate member relative to the frame rolls the first wheel inside the belt and rotates the table between bench mode and snip-off mode.
