  • Patent number: 7897405
Abstract: A method for determining a time of elution of a peptide of interest from a liquid chromatography column includes a step of obtaining chromatographic data for each of a plurality of candidate fragment ions of the peptide of interest. A time along a common chromatographic time is scale determined corresponding to maximum overlay of the ion signals measured for each of the plurality of candidate fragment ions. Finally, the determined time is assigned as the time of elution of the peptide of interest from the liquid chromatography column. In particular, the chromatographic data is acquired during selective reaction monitoring of an eluate from the liquid chromatography column containing the peptide of interest. The chromatographic data includes ion signals measured along the common chromatographic time scale for each of the plurality of candidate fragment ions.

  • Patent number: 7893940
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for processing a volumetric dataset for providing close-up visualization of a subset therefrom. A volumetric dataset is processed based on a dual access gradient quantization data structure. The data structure is generated in a fast pre-processing stage and provides substantially immediate access to a quantized gradient using either an index or an arbitrary normalized vector. The method provides a clear, enlarged high-resolution image of a user selected region of interest at interactive rates and allows the user to freely move and visualize the region of interest within the volumetric dataset and with any orientation.

  • Patent number: 7889861
Abstract: A method for reducing the memory requirements of executing ciphering processes is disclosed which utilizes sequential key extraction and ciphering. By providing a base key for extracting therefrom multiple first sequential security keys; each key is sequentially extracted and employed. During the process overwriting of each sequential security key occurs with the next subsequently extracted sequential security key. • Patent number: 7881501
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for processing multi-dimensional signal data to determine frequency dependent features therefrom. The multi-dimensional signal data are transformed into space-frequency or time-space-frequency domain, providing second signal data. At predetermined locations of at least a portion of the one of space and time-space of the second signal data a dominant feature corresponding to a largest value of the second signal data is determined. This is followed by the determination of a wave-vector corresponding to the dominant feature at each of the predetermined locations. Finally, a dip map, a frequency map, and an amplitude map are generated using the wave-vectors.

  • Patent number: 7854701
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for non-invasive monitoring of brain density variations. At least two ultrasonic pulses having different frequencies are provided into the brain for transmission therethrough. The reflected ultrasonic pulses are then sensed and the sensed signal data are then processed for determining at least two phase differences between the phases of the at least two reflected ultrasonic pulses and the phases of the at least two provided ultrasonic pulses. A phase of at least a beat frequency is determined in dependence upon the at least two phase differences. Data indicative of a brain density variation are determined based on the at least two phase differences and the at least a beat frequency.

  • Patent number: 7851745
Abstract: A high field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometer (FAIMS) includes at least two focusing electrodes that are separated one from the other by a gap, which decreases in width along a direction of ion flow. Within the gap is disposed an electrode assembly including a first electrode and a second electrode, approximately flat surfaces of the first and second electrodes facing one another so as to define a space of approximately uniform thicknesses therebetween. During use electrical signals are applied via an electrical contact on at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode, and on each one of the at least two focusing electrodes. The electrical signals are for establishing electrode electric field conditions within the space between the first electrode and the second, for selectively transmitting ions therethrough and for directing the selectively transmitted ions in a direction away from one of the at least two focusing electrodes and toward a central portion of the space.

  • Patent number: 7796656
Abstract: The invention describes the method and apparatus for enhanced efficiency in a laterally-coupled distributed feedback (LC-DFB) laser. In a device featuring the effective ridge design, lateral confinement of the guided optical modes is provided by a surface etched grating, which also serves as a DFB element of the laser. Coupling and quantum efficiency of such a LC-DFB laser both improve with an increase of the lateral mode order. In accordance with this invention, a dramatic enhancement of the laser efficiency is achievable by designing it to operate in one of the higher order modes, notably the first order mode, while all the other lateral modes, including the zero order mode, are suppressed through gain-loss discrimination.

  • Patent number: 7760649
Abstract: The invention relates to opportunistic wireless mesh networks which operate under random networking conditions. Such random network conditions typically limit the effectiveness of prior art wireless mesh networks, and more particularly to those supporting low power devices within the wireless network. Random network conditions include: random power supply, random node distribution, random node mobility, high mobility of nodes, random wireless link fluctuations, and random application traffic. The opportunistic wireless mesh network utilizes a two-layer architecture Embedded Wireless Interconnect (EWI) framework, which is adopted as the architecture reference model. A mesh network according to the invention supports opportunistically determining both mesh interconnections and network transmission routes by providing nodes with broadcast modules and unicast modules.

  • Patent number: 7702453
Abstract: A method for guiding an aircraft toward a stopping position within an aircraft stand of an airport includes receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal from a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag that is carried by the aircraft. The RF signal comprises aircraft-type data that is retrievably stored in an integrated circuit of the RFID tag, the aircraft-type data being indicative of a type of the aircraft. A current location of the aircraft is sensed, and based on the aircraft-type data and the sensed current location of the aircraft, instructions are determined for guiding the aircraft from the current location thereof to a predetermined stopping position for the type of the aircraft. Using a visual docking guidance system (VDGS) associated with the aircraft stand, the instructions are displayed in human-intelligible form for being viewed by a user aboard the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 7683315
Abstract: A FAIMS cell has an elongated inner electrode with a longitudinal axis extending along a first direction. The inner electrode has a curved outer surface that defines a circle when viewed in a cross section that is taken in a plane normal to the longitudinal axis, which itself passes through the center of the circle so defined. An outer electrode having an inner surface is disposed in a spaced-apart facing relationship relative to the outer surface of the inner electrode so as to define an analytical gap therebetween. A first ion inlet orifice is defined through a first portion of the outer electrode, and an ion outlet orifice is defined through a second portion of the outer electrode. In particular, the first ion inlet orifice has a first ion injection axis that does not pass through the center of the circle. Furthermore, the second electrode does not have defined through any portion thereof an ion inlet orifice having an ion injection axis that passes through the center of the circle.

  • Patent number: 7669270
Abstract: A method of aligning one end of a passenger boarding bridge with a doorway of an aircraft includes a step of parking the aircraft within a parking space that is defined adjacent to the passenger boarding bridge. An imager disposed aboard the aircraft is used for scanning a target that is located proximate the parking space, the target including machine-readable information that is uniquely associated with the passenger boarding bridge. Data relating to the machine-readable information of the target is extracted from image data and used for encoding a signal for transmission to a controller of the passenger boarding bridge. The controller determines the presence of the extracted data and compares the data to a unique bridge identifier code for that passenger boarding bridge. When a match is determined, then communication with an aircraft within or proximate a parking space adjacent to that passenger boarding bridge is confirmed.
