Abstract: An electroluminescent element comprising an electroluminescent (EL) material part which emits a near ultraviolet ray of light and a fluorescent material part which absorbs the ultraviolet light emitted from the electroluminescent material and emits a fluorescence in a visible light range from blue to red. The electroluminescent element provides for emission of lights with a wide range of wavelength and three elementary colors of blue, green and red can be expressed by appropriate combinations of the organic EL material and the fluorescent material. Consequently, the electroluminescent element provides for a full color display.
Abstract: A heat conductive ceramic substrate for semiconductor circuits, comprising polycrystalline aluminum nitride of high density containing as an additive boron nitride or oxides of calcium, magnesium, aluminum, titanium, zirconium, chrome, silicon, and/or rare earth metals. The boron nitride additive concentration ranges between 0.1 and 3% by weight, preferably between 0.5 and 2% by weight. The oxide additive concentration ranges between 0.1 and 5% by weight. The substrate has a significantly higher thermal conductivity than aluminum oxide substrates and is more economincal to manufacture than beryllium oxide substrates.

Abstract: To permit resharpening of cutter blades of a helical milling cutter, the cutter blades or bits of a multi-bit cutter have decreasing thickness, and are placed in grooves having the same helix radius, but the centers of the helical axes offset from the center of rotation of the cylindrical cutter body in the direction towards the associated groove, so that cutter blades of lesser thickness are still seated firmly in the bottom of the respective groove. Upon dulling of the cutters, the thinnest one of the cutter blades is discarded, the thickest one only replaced and the worn blades moved up one step along the circumference of the body into grooves which are progressively more shallow, to compensate for decrease in thickness of the respective cutter bits upon regrinding to resharpen the bits.

Abstract: To permit use of a simple transducer cooperating with a star-wheel, for example the starter gear or other gear on an internal combustion engine and having alternate magnetically responsive projections uniformly distributed around the circumference thereof, a counter is provided to count off a predetermined number of pulses derived from the transducer, the number of pulses being analyzed for their time duration to provide a single output pulse having a time duration corresponding to a predetermined number of teeth passing the transducer. A marker pulse derived from a separate marker element provides a reference. Signals representative of operating parameters of the engine are combined with the pulse having the length corresponding to the predetermined number of pulses, the resulting output being used to provide, upon comparison with a speed-responsive signal, an output, the time occurrence of which will cause triggering of the event, for example generation of a spark for an internal combustion engine.
