    Abstract: A biopsy device and method are provided for obtaining a tissue sample, such as a breast tissue biopsy sample. The biopsy device includes a disposable probe assembly with an outer cannula having a distal piercing tip, a cutter lumen, and a cutter tube that rotates and translates past a side aperture in the outer cannula to sever a tissue sample. The biopsy device also includes a reusable hand piece with an integral motor and power source to make a convenient, untethered control for use with ultrasonic imaging. The reusable hand piece incorporates a probe oscillation mode to assist when inserting the distal piercing tip into tissue. External vacuum holes along the outer cannula (probe) that communicate with a vacuum and cutter lumen withdraw bodily fluids while a hemostatic disk-shaped ring pad around the probe applies compression to an external hole in the skin and absorbs fluids.

    Abstract: An exemplary method of reducing the volume of a stomach comprises providing an adhesive applier and a biocompatible adhesive. The exemplary method further comprises introducing at least a portion of the adhesive applier into the stomach and dispensing the adhesive through the adhesive applier into the stomach. The adhesive may be applied between the submucosa and muscle layers of the stomach to reduce the volume of the stomach. The adhesive may alternatively be applied in layers onto the inner surface of the stomach. Alternatively, a non-expandable member may be introduced into the stomach, and an adhesive may be used to secure the non-expandable member to the stomach. Such uses may provide a treatment for morbid obesity. An adhesive may also be used to provide flow restriction, such as by injecting the adhesive between the submucosa and muscle layers of a cardia or rectum.

    Abstract: A method and instruments used to performing an end-to-end anastomosis between two portions of intestinal tissue is disclosed. The method involves drawing a first portion of intestinal tissue over a portion of a bioabsorbable stent. The end of the first portion of intestinal tissue is everted on the stent to create a collar of exposed inner intestinal tissue. A second portion of intestinal tissue is drawn over the stent and over the exposed intestinal tissue. A bandage containing one adhesive compound selected from the group of an adhesive and an adhesive initiator is wrapped about the juncture. The other adhesive compound is applied to saturate the bandage and the combination of an adhesive and an adhesive initiator sets the adhesive to adhere the first portion and the second portion of adhesive to the bandage.

The expandable member may have a generally toroid configuration with a stoma, such that the expandable member may provide a gastric restriction when expanded and adhered to the inner wall of a patient's stomach. The expandable member may thus provide a treatment for morbid obesity by reducing food intake, by reducing stomach volume, or otherwise.

A hot band having a thickness of about 1.5 to about 4.0 mm has a chemistry comprising about 2.5 to about 4.5% silicon, about 0.1 to about 1.2% chromium, about 0.02 to about 0.08% carbon, about 0.01 to about 0.05% aluminum, up to about 0.1% sulfur, up to about 0.14% selenium, about 0.03 to about 0.15% manganese, up to about 0.2% tin, up to about 1% copper, and balance being essentially iron and residual elements, all percentages by weight. The band has a volume resistivity of at least about 45 ??-cm, an austenite volume fraction (?1150° C.) of at least 20% and the strip has an isomorphic layer thickness of at least about 2% of the total thickness on at least one surface of the hot processed band. The band is rapidly cooled after the anneal prior to cold rolling at a rate of at least 30° C./second from 875-950° C. to a temperature below 400° C.
