  • Patent number: 5056348
Abstract: An improved cold formed, sheet metal profiled building unit and method of making the same are disclosed. The building unit incorporates at least one longitudinal stiffening rib in a longitudinal flat region of the type having a tendency to buckle when subjected to compressive forces. The longitudinal stiffening rib is formed not by drawing-in sheet metal as in current roll forming practices, but, instead, by stretching a segment of the sheet metal. Each longitudinal rib has a profile width, as measured along the centerline of the rib, which is greater than the linear of the sheet metal segment from which it was stretched-in. Roll forming machines incorporating the principles of this invention utilize fewer roll stands than do roll forming machines incorporating the principles of current roll forming practices.

  • Patent number: 4603523
Abstract: A preset access housing for use with metal cellular flooring units of the type placed in building floors, and which provide generally parallel enclosed cells separated by troughs. The housing spans between the confronting webs of two of the cells and has side walls depending into the region between the cells to enclose a trough space. A connection formed in part from portions of the end walls of the housing and in part by slots in the generally vertically webs of the cells, connects the housing to the flooring unit. Deflectible means associated with the side walls of the housing, engage a surface of the flooring unit in the region between the cells, are deflected, and urge the housing upwardly relative to the flooring unit thereby to retain the connection between the housing and the flooring unit.

  • Patent number: 4486998
Abstract: A concealed fastener arrangement useful in attaching a succession of profiled panel members to spaced-apart structural elements of a building framework to provide roof or wall structures. The arrangement includes repeating series of fixed and movable clip means secured to the structural elements in predetermined pattern. Adjacent ones of the fixed clip means are spaced-apart at a selected modular width corresponding to the desired panel coverage width. Plural movable clip means are presented between adjacent fixed clip means, and are capable of limited movement longitudinally of the structural elements. When assembled in side-by-side overlapped relation, the panel members present downwardly opening, longitudinal ribs including joint ribs formed by overlapping the complimentary male and female partial ribs of adjacent panel members. The fixed and movable clip means are received within the longitudinal ribs and connect the panel members to the structural elements.

  • Patent number: 4467582
Abstract: A joint retention clip for use in a rib-like joint formed by overlapping male and female partial ribs of adjacent panel members in a roof or wall structure. The joint retention clip maintains the partial ribs of the rib-like joint in assembled relation in the region between adjacent panel supports. The joint retention clip resides entirely on the protected side of a sealant bead and is thus not subject to corrosion; and exhibits improved resistance to applied vertical loads.

  • Patent number: 4465897
Abstract: A metal cellular flooring unit presents at least two enclosed cells separated by a lengthwise trough. A distinct partitioning element substantially coextensive in length with the first cell, divides the first cell into first and second subcells. A set of access openings is provided including distinct crest and web access openings in the crest and one web of the first cell providing access solely to the first and second subcells, respectively; and a web access opening in that web of the second cell opposite to web access opening of the first cell, providing access to the second cell. The flooring unit is thereby adapted for separate distribution of the wiring of three different services, such as, computer or like services, telephone and power. Access to all three services is available at each location along the length of the flooring unit at which a set of access openings is provided.

  • Patent number: 4400922
Abstract: A panel mounting clip assembly is adapted to connect the intermediate longitudinal ribs of panel members and the rib-like joints between adjacent ones of the panel members to panel support members. The clip assembly comprises a base member that is fastened to the panel support member and a top clip that is frictionally engaged with interior surfaces of the ribs or joints to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of the panels. The top clip-to-base member connection provides for movement of the top clip transversely of the length of the panel member thereby to accommodate rib-to-clip and joint-to-clip misalignments. The top clip-to-base member connection also provides for limited universal movement of the top clip relative to the base member to accommodate any inherent minor distortions in the profile of the intermediate ribs or the panel elements of the rib-like joint. A roof or wall structure utilizing the panel mounting clip assembly is described.

  • Patent number: 4324078
Abstract: Apparatus for fireproofing an underfloor access chamber of an electrical wiring distributing floor structure. The access chamber is formed between a cellular unit and a covering layer of concrete. The access chamber has at least one inlet opening communicating with a raceway presented by the cellular unit; and an outlet opening providing access to the chamber from the space above the concrete. An unobtrusive strip of fire-resistant material, disposed within the chamber, covers substantially entirely all of the bottom portion and obstructs the inlet opening. The strip shields the upper portion of the chamber from heat transfer by convection and by radiation. Slit means formed in the strip allows passage of wiring without significantly deteriorating obstruction of the inlet opening.
