  • Patent number: 6796376
Abstract: A composite bridge plug system for containing a well bore with reduced drill up time. The composite bridge plug system includes an elongate mandrel, a head member attached to a lower portion of the mandrel, an upper collar positioned about an upper portion of the mandrel, and a plurality of gripping members positioned about the mandrel. The gripping members are expandable outwardly when the mandrel is pulled upwardly with an engaging tube preventing the upward movement of the upper collar thereby compressing the gripping members. The upper portion of the mandrel includes a shear portion that is breakable by pulling upwardly upon the mandrel. An engaging portion surrounds the shear portion adjacent to the upper collar that is engageable with a lower slot within a head member of a higher bridge plug thereby preventing rotation of the higher bridge plug during drilling thereof.

  • Patent number: 6732484
Abstract: A chair supports rebar or wire mesh during a concrete pour. The chair is box shaped having grooves in the side walls of different width for supporting rebar of different diameter. Notches in the edge of the grooves on opposite sides of the chair support wire mesh of different diameter. The notches are shaped so the wire mesh is snapped into the notch. Wall like braces extend across the inside of the chair and support the grooves from the opposite wall. The larger grooves are on the short sides of the chair to raise the rebar a longer distance off the underlying surface. In a preferred embodiment, the chair provides two elevations for placement of rebar, namely 2″ and 3″ above an underlying surface. Parts of the box are cut away to promote concrete movement through the chair. Slots are provided to allow air trapped in the concrete to escape from the chair.

  • Patent number: 6719060
Abstract: A plunger lift for a hydrocarbon well includes a multipart piston that is dropped into the well in separate pieces. When the pieces reach the bottom of the well, they fall into an accumulation of the formation liquid in the bottom of the well and unite. Gas from the formation pushes the unit upwardly, pushing liquid above the piston toward the surface. The multipart piston includes a upper sleeve and a lower component. A decoupler at the surface comprises a separator rod which the sleeve passes onto thereby dislodging the lower component and allowing it to fall into the well. The sleeve is held on the separator rod by the action of well contents flowing around and/or through the sleeve. When well flow around the sleeve is interrupted, the sleeve falls into the well. The length of time the sleeve is held at the surface is varied in response to the amount of liquid produced on each cycle.

  • Patent number: 6705153
Abstract: A drilling mud monitoring system includes a single measurement chamber which is filled with a predetermined quantity of drilling mud. The chamber is weighed to provide a value representative of the density of the drilling mud. The time needed for the chamber to drain is measured to provide a value representative of viscosity. The system proceeds through a measurement cycle in which the chamber is filled, weighed, timed and washed. At the end of the wash step, the weight of the chamber is compared with an empty weight and if the chamber weighs too much, the conclusion is that drilling mud adheres to the chamber so it is washed again. An alarm is sounded if the mud weight is too low and/or too high or in the case of a machine malfunction.

  • Patent number: 6623214
Abstract: An opening in a fabric geotextile tube is closed by clamping a backing member and friction enhancer on the inside of the geotextile tube to a friction enhancer and support on the outside of the geotextile tube. The friction enhancers reduce slippage between the fabric and the backing member on the inside of the tube and between the fabric and the support on the outside of the tube. The backing member is larger than the opening. In one embodiment, the backing member is inserted into the opening by providing a slit ring backing member, inserting the fabric through the slit and then rotating the ring and advancing the ring into the geotextile tube. In another embodiment, the backing member is inserted through the opening in segments. In another embodiment, an inlet assembly is provided by the support. In another embodiment of the invention, a connection is made to the geotextile tube for securing a UV protective cover to the geotextile tube.
