  • Patent number: 8099481
Abstract: The present system and method for resolving hubs and other forms of relay devices in a subnet preferably comprises the steps of acquiring the adjacency table of each of the plurality of nodes, searching the adjacency table data for indications that a port is indirectly coupled to a plurality of other nodes through a hub, introducing an icon for each of the hubs in addition to icons for each of the plurality of nodes enabled with an adjacency-detection protocol, and logically coupling each hub to the associated nodes. Illustrations of the network topology generated using the preferred embodiment are therefore highly representative of the actual physical topology.

  • Patent number: 8040873
Abstract: A telephony communications network supporting translation of private signaling codes for transmission over a private and/or IP network. A digital telephone emits a private signaling code for accessing a particular PBX function. An adapter coupled to the digital telephone translates the private signaling code into a SIP invite, request, response, information, notification message, and/or instant message if the private signaling code is destined for the IP network. If the private signaling code is not destined for the IP network, the private signaling code is not translated and is transmitted over the private network. If the private signaling code is destined for the IP network, the private signaling code is translated into a SIP message and transmitted over the IP network to a SIP user agent. A PBX is also coupled to the adapter that receives the private signaling codes. The codes are transmitted to the PBX for rendering a function for the digital telephone.

  • Patent number: 7916638
Abstract: A scheduling mechanism and method for scheduling the output of frames from a plurality of priority queues in a network router or multi-layer switch is disclosed. The method of scheduling packets generally includes the steps of: allocating bandwidth credits for a plurality of queues; dequeuing frames from a current queue if there is available credit; deducting the available credit in accordance with the credit requirements of the frames that are dequeued; and replenishing the available credit for each of the queues when the available credit for the current queue is insufficient to dequeue a frame. Since the available credit for each of the queues is replenished as needed instead of at a regular or periodic interval, the scheduling method is executed independent of time and with reduced computational resources. The present invention offers an efficient variant of deficit round robin, while reducing the computation burden associated with conventional deficit round robin.

  • Patent number: 7797513
Abstract: A packet processor whose processing capabilities are optimized by concurrently processing multiple packets within various pipelined stages. At each stage, multiple packets are processed via an internally pipelined sub-processor. In one embodiment, the packets are processed in a round robin fashion. When a particular packet is done processing at a particular stage, it may pass another packet whose processing is not complete, and move to a next stage. In another embodiment, a packet is processed until a conditional branch instruction or any other instruction causing a potential stall is encountered. If such an instruction is encountered, a next available packet is selected and processed instead of wasting processing cycles during the stall, or proceeding with the processing of the current packet based on a predicted result. The sub-processor resumes processing of the packet once the stall is over.

  • Patent number: 7782762
Abstract: RSVP-TE Enhancement for MPLS-FRR Bandwidth Optimization is a method of RSVP-TE protocol enhancement for optimizing network resources when FRR is protecting LSP traffic in a topology where the bypass LSP tunnel traverses the original previous hop(s) of the protected LSP. The node providing FRR protection, the PLR, will use the enhanced message TLVs to report to the nodes all the way back to the HE node. The node(s) on the original path prior to the PLR node can check if there is a better alternative bypass tunnel to use to provide FRR from a network resource optimization perspective (such as using the bypass tunnel from the HE node in a ring topology to reduce the traffic in the ring).
