  • Patent number: 6821961
Abstract: The pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic compositions for treatment of obesity and/or overweight contain an effective amount of a fatty-acid monoester of an estrogen and a fatty acid wherein the estrogen is preferably estrone, diethylstilbestrol, estriol, estradiol or ethinyl estradiol and the fatty acid is eicosenoic acid, especially cis 11 eicosenoic, although cis 5, cis 8, and cis 13 eicosenoic acid are also effective. The C-22 fatty acid monoester of estrogen, cis 13 docosenoic acid (Erucic acid), and the C-24 fatty acid monoester of estrogen, cis 15 tetracosenoic acid (Nervonic acid) are also effective and are included in this disclosure. In addition, synthesized combination molecules formed when a monounsaturated fatty acid of 20 carbon atoms or more is joined via an ester, ether, or amide bond to either a steroid or any molecule containing a perhydrocyclopentanophenanthrene nucleus or perhydrocyclopentanophenanthrene nucleus derivative are also included in this invention.

  • Patent number: 6810568
Abstract: A protector system for a soft flexible refrigeration line as it exits an exterior wall of a building. The system comprises an elongated inflexible tube, made of such as PVC or the like, which extends through an opening in the wall of the building, with a portion of tube extending into the gap between the interior and the exterior wall and a portion of the tubing extending outside of the wall. The refrigeration line would run through the tube, and extend from the outer most end of the tubing projecting out from the wall. There would further be provided a cut or etched line along the exterior portion of the tube, so that should the soft flexible refrigerant line which extends from the outer end of the tube be crimped at that point, the part of the exterior tube extending from the cut or etched line could be then snapped or cut off, which would expose a portion of the flexible refrigerant line that is not crimped.

  • Patent number: 6805056
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing a tubular member (e.g., leg of an abandoned or obsolete fixed platforms in a marine environment) is provided. The apparatus includes a delivery system having a frame carrying explosive shaped charges. The frame includes charges having curved sections which can be moved relative to one another for engaging the inside bore of a tubular member to be severed. The charges are biased (e.g., spring loaded) to be moved automatically to an extended position that engages the tubular member (e.g., platform leg) when a trigger is activated from a remote location. The trigger can be a pin carried in a tube with wires connecting each curved charge section to the pin. When the pin is lifted from its tube, the wires are released enabling the springs to thrust the charges against the inside of a pipe, leg or tubular member to be cut. Once in this position, the charges can be fired.

  • Patent number: 6804911
Abstract: A trap capable of harvesting bait fish in open water or in ponds. In one embodiment a wire mesh cage having capture gates using longitudinal bores and angled rods, each sized to admit desired bait fish but exclude predatory fish. A bait box is provided to hold bait to attract the desired fish. The mesh construction of the cage permits free flow of water currents and visibility of the bait in the bait box. The mesh can also be sized, to provide size selection, by permitting the ready escape of immature and smaller bait fish.

  • Patent number: 6776380
Abstract: A furniture article of improved construction includes a furniture frame having a portion that is receptive of a bracket having a configuration that enables attaching a leg thereto in an adjustable way. Each of the legs that attaches to the furniture frame attaches to a single of the brackets. A plurality of the brackets can be attached to the frame. Each of the brackets has a slot that receives a connector (e.g. internally threaded nut), the connector traveling in the slot between inner and outer positions. A user can select the position of a leg relative to the furniture frame by attaching the leg to the nut using a threaded fastener for example, and sliding the nut and leg relative to the bracket and frame until a selected position is reached. Further tightening of the leg relative to the nut and bracket affixes the position of the leg relative to the article of furniture in the desired position.

  • Patent number: 6773823
Abstract: By utilizing the sequential synthesis afforded reverse micelles, nanocomposite materials can be synthesized which have a diamagnetic core surrounded by a thin shell of ferromagnetic material passivated with a second shell of a diamagnet. Using gold as the diamagnetic material and iron as the ferromagnetic material, nanocomposites can be synthesized where there is a thin layer of the magnetic material, which is passivated and protected from oxidation. In this case, all of the spins of the magnetic layer lie within the surface of the particle.

  • Patent number: 6773353
Abstract: Universal joint (100) includes a centering mechanism (100A) for supporting the universal and forcing the two joint halves to operate at the same angle thereby causing the joint to operate at constant velocity at all angles. Each shaft (134, 135) of the joint (100) is rotatably connected to the centering mechanism (100A). Movement of one of the shafts (134, 135) at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the coupling yoke (136) is transmitted to the other shaft (135, 134) by the centering mechanism (100A) and the centering mechanism (100A) causes the other shaft (135, 134) to likewise move at the same angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the coupling yoke (136). The centering mechanism (100A) includes cam rods (102, 103) supported within a cam tube (101), which arrangement allows a full range of movement of the shafts (134, 135) at angles of 90 °.
